Not everything is about religion, politics, power and/or race.

Correct. In fact, everything is about boobies.

Roman Emperor

Perhaps in your household Easter is all about religion. My family has such broad religious beliefs that Easter and Christmas are much akin to Thanksgiving... not so much about the secular calendar (which half of the family doesn't believe it) but absolutely about being with your family for an afternoon to celebrate life and love and horking down an obscene amount of homemade foodstuffs.

Sure, I gave my child an Easter basket. Partly because he sees everyone else celebrating the holiday, and partly because I think children don't get enough special days as it is. I'd like him to look forward to getting something for nothing several times a year. Yes, I am breeding a capitalist pig, but I like to see the smile on his face. Life is hard enough, I want my boy to play water commando with his cousins and eat jelly beans until his face turns green.

Not everything is about religion, politics, power and/or race.

exactly. those holidays have become fun, traditional american celebrations in my house. we don't go to church or put up crosses or anything. but we exchange presents on christmas and get together with extended family for dinner and on easter we eat candy and hide eggs. it's not a religious thing, it's a bonding thing.

A statement like yours indicates that, even after all the ink that has been spilled on Terri Schiavo, you still have no clue what "the issue" really is.

It was neither Michael Schiavo nor the Schindlers' choice whether Terri Schiavo was taken off the tube. The point of all those state court proceedings was to determine what Terri Schiavo's choice would have been, were she capable of communicating it. Michael Schiavo, as Terri's guardian, was in the legal position to present his opinion of what her wishes would be. He supported his opinion with medical and anecdotal evidence. The courts have all agreed with him. There is no truthful evidence which indicates they were wrong to do so.

In other words, even if the Schindlers had unlimited money and could support their daughter at their own expense forever, turning her over to them would contradict her own wishes for how she should be treated. It would be wrong.

FarkinHostile,

That was great. Thank you, thank you for the laugh. I have found a new wallpaper for my laptop.

For the most part, all we're hearing about is the "rush to save Terri", which is a "conservative" cause.

Explain to me again how this makes the media "liberal".

2005-03-28 01:02:16 PM
So at what age do you sit the kid down and explain to him what thanksgiving is really about?

Cause his school isn't going to tell him how many millions of Native Americans were killed for that turkey.

....mmmmmmmm turkey........

Actually, that's how the word "religion" is etymologically derived. Religare is latin for "to bind together".

If the media was so liberal, Dianne Sawyer would have had an hour long special about the inside of a hospice. Or better yet, during a newscast, show a constantly updated counter indicating how many people have died from the removal of their feeding tubs.

Michael Schiavo has been common-law married to somebody else for that entire time. He has kids with this other woman.

1. There is no such thing as "Common law" marriage in Florida anymore. Please see list of states that have it here. And besides, there couldn't be a common law marriage here. Bigamy is illegal in Florida.

2. Yes, but Michael and Theresa are still married.

3. Today's 'Did You Know' Fact: The Schindler family actively encouraged Michael to date other women? Did you also know that some of these women were introduced to Michael's in-laws, and that there was no problem with this until the settlement of the malpractice claim (Which dropped $750,000 into Theresa's lap?)

It's about the fact she should have been kept alive long enough for the parents to get custody of her, and to null her insurance policy so Asshole doesn't get his grimy little hands on it.

There is NO INSURANCE POLICY. From everything we've heard, there remains about $40,000 in the trust fund for Theresa's medical care.

And regardless of that meager amount of money, Michae Schiavo has already formally agreed to divest himself of his wife's estate.

(Source for all of the above, except the current figure of Theresa's trust fund: Dr. Jay Wolfson, Guardian Ad litem to Theresa Schiavo, report to Governor Jeb Bush.

//But hey, thanks for playing 'spread lies and disinformation'!

sonnyboy11,

Actually there was a significant difference, despite being in a coma DeLay's father had an identifiable reaction (increased heart rate) to one of his son's entering the hospital room.

Also let's remember to ignore the fact that DeLay's family sued the maker of the parts for the tram that was involved in the accident. Of course one of the leaders in the Tort reform battle would never financially benefit from a lawsuit, so Tom DeLay signed over his portion of the undisclosed settlement to his mother.

Someone is slipping her liquids or something, unless she was bloated with water already.

Rude Pundit:

Terry Schiavo was a vain woman, driven to bulimia by a sad desire to be thinner and thinner, afflicted, as so many women are and so many women aren't, by pop culture standards of thinness. Chances are it was the bulimia that led to the heart attack that led to the brain damage that led to the gooey being that is Schiavo being prayed over by the President and his brother. Now ask yourself: if Terry Schivao saw herself right now, knowing what we know about who she was and how she felt about looks, would she want to stay alive?

I like the protestor's sign that reads: "Barbara Bush, are you proud of your sons now?"

These people are really so filled with hate for anyone who doesn't see things their way. And if you dare oppose them, you are evil and beneath consideration. Now they attack Barbara Bush? I wonder how morally upstanding they are in their lives.

There are some very real reasons why the baby Jesus cries.

What kind of chum are you using? My dad, he keeps all the nasty fish scales and guts from each trip out to the reef; throws that mess into a cuisinart, then freezes the whole shebang into a handy little block. Works well, more more economical then the chum you buy at the bait shop...

Before you start asking me how I will explain Thanksgiving (and what the white man has done to the Native Americans) to my son, well, perhaps you'd be interested in knowing how my First Nations side of the family deals with the Irish Catholic side, and how we all come together for both the American AND the Canadian Thanksgivings.

Please keep your religion out of our politics:

Tom DeLay:
Terri Schiavo has survived her Passion weekend, and she has not been forsaken.

Jeff Miller
Mr. Speaker, 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, marking the beginning of a week that throughout history and the world over has signified the sanctity of human life.

Tom DeLay on the Sactity of Marriage:
"The sanctity of life overshadows the sanctity of marriage. I dont know what transpired between Terri and her husband. All I know is Terri is alive . . . Unless she has specifically written instructions in her hand, with her signature, I dont care what her husband says."

2005-03-28 01:20:39 PM
Maybe, Michael Schiavo should try to make some of these protesters put their money where their mouths are. Get an attonery to draft a Power of Guardianship, go visit a group of protesters with this document, a pen and a Notary and see if any of these asshats will become Terri's guardian. See if they want to be responsible for her care - finanically, emotionally, physically, whatever it takes.

Anyone here want to volunteer to do that? I'm sure her parents would be happy to help you out.

/where are we in the pool, do I still have a pick for tomorrow afternoon?

Terry Schiavo was a vain woman, driven to bulimia by a sad desire to be thinner and thinner, afflicted, as so many women are and so many women aren't, by pop culture standards of thinness.

*sigh* If our mainstream media was doing its job, this case could have been used to highlight the dangers and tragedy of bulimia. It's unfair to call Schiavo "vain". I dated a girl once who suffered from that condition and she was not a vain person. She was, however, horribly insecure. Despite the fact that she was quite hot.

Right you are. I stand corrected. Schiavo's case is a far more clear cut instance where allowing her life to end is the only sane thing left to do compared to what Delay went through with his father. Man, the hypocrisy is so thick on this one, you could cut it with a knife.

Nice to know Speaker DeLay can be so cavalier when his own family went through a similar decision making process with his father, who also lacked a Living Will.

2005-03-28 01:25:33 PM
Yeah, I just heard Rush Limbaugh going apoplectic over the "disgusting" and "shameful" article from the LA Times reporting that Tom DeLay took his own father off of life support.

See, if it's the Republicans using a suffering family as a political pawn, with 80% of America seeing it as such, it's perfectly fine, but how DARE a newspaper scutinize a politician's past and uncover hypocrisy! You see, our glorious Republican politicians should be held above scrutiny, implies Limbaugh. God, the disgusting, toadying, taint-faced, triple-damned, propaganda-spewing, hypocritical gas-bag. Why do people take this pathetic excuse for a man seriously anymore?

These people not only have no shame, but no decency and such a desire to distort the truth that I really believe that sometimes they can't even see it any more.

Case in point: Peggy Noonan was caught denigrating those (you know, 80% of Americans) who side with Michael Schiavo, insisting that most Americans thought the way she did and pugring forth this little gem: "...this is a struggle between many serious people who really mean it and one, just one, strange-o. And the few bearded and depressed-looking academics he's drawn to his side." Boy, did she change her tune after the polls came out, just like Fox News did in SUCH an obvious and clumsy hurry. And now it looks like the President may be following suit, with an aide of his now claiming that he "didn't really want" to sign the Schiavo bill, even though it's the first time he's EVER cut one of his sacrosanct vacations to his ranch short.

No shame, no shame whatsoever. And fools will continue to support these jackasses, because all they know how to do these days is hate "liberals"; take the Noonan quote above as an example, they no longer hold conservative ideals, or ANY ideals, sacred. They vote and opine out of spite, not patriotism or understanding of the issues. They exist to "stick it to the left", and they're only happy if that's what they're doing, regardless of how their actions affect this country as a whole.

It's a sad state we're in, politically. Let's hope we can quickly climb out of the muck.

Florida and Texas should break away from the Union and form JESUSTAN!

In Jesustan, public education is outlawed, and churches do schooling instead!

In Jesustan, there will be three branches of Government: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

In Jesustan, it is okay to kill foreigners, convicts and poor people, but the braindead, zygotes and fetouses are to be kept alive at ALL COSTS!

So, Christian Right, democracy no longer works for you. Theocracy is what God would have wanted, you wacky farks.

I plan to use FARK as my living will. It's easy, and way cheaper than using a real lawyer.

Attention Farkers: I hereby proclaim my desire to be euthanized should I ever be deemed to be in a persistent vegetative state. My preferred method of euthanization is to be smothered by any Hot Farkette's shaved and well-oiled Genitals.

Definitions:
Hot Farkette shall mean any Farkette of the female persuasion whose appearance is such that posting their picture on Fark would elicit no more that 6 'sharp knees' comments.
Genitals shall mean female genitalia, usually comprised of labia majora, labia minora, and a clitoris. In no instance shall other genetalia be permitted, specifically as pertains to she-males, transsexuals, and/or hermaprodites.

Is anybody here a Notary Public?
