A swift kick in the nuts seems more appropriate.

/heard the tapes this morning

2005-03-22 06:19:15 PM
With an attitude like that, I wouldn't want my life in his hands when it came to response time either.

I hope at the very least the Cop loses his job. Perfectly innocent people crash and hurt themselves on motorcycles everyday....sometimes (usually?) due to no fault of their own. This guy is just cold hearted.

2005-03-22 06:21:04 PM
Connecticut has State Troopers?

Wouldn't it seem more appropriate to just have a few Mall Security Guards patrol that state?

2005-03-22 06:22:51 PM
Oh, boo-hoo. My heart is breaking. Like this guy's got some kind of responsibility to help people or something.

Oh wait, I guess he does have a responsibility.

In that case, fire his ass.

2005-03-22 06:23:13 PM
I heard those tapes this morning, too. That trooper definitely needs to lose his job. I'd also be curious to know if he might be facing any legal issues...the guy who crashed died, and if it can be at all proven that the victim's death was preventable had help been dispatched more quickly, I'd be suing that trooper for every penny he's worth. Which probably isn't much, but you know.

Not as long as David Letterman has a driver's license. :-D

2005-03-22 06:26:10 PM
Just to play devil's advocate, how do you know the guy who died wasn't as asshat who was always getting in trouble with the law for racing on back roads or something? Maybe the cop was sick of dealing with him.

He still sucks for saying it though.

Isn't this already on the main site?

Cops are dicks.

Except the cool ones.

But they're few and far between.

eddyatwork: Maybe the cop was sick of dealing with him.

well, that's his job. when i worked tech support there were several "regulars" that i would have LOVED to hang up on...but it was my job to deal with their bullshiat. if you don't like it, get another job (which this guy might be doing before this is over).

2005-03-22 06:45:17 PM
Was it one of these guys?

/can't believe someone hasn't posted this yet

Rottweiler8: Was it one of these guys?

No, but he was overheard asking for a liter of cola just before he hung up the phone.

I didn't say I agreed with his actions, I was just trying to show another side.

this is why I didn't go to police school or medical school. "Suck it up, biatch" just isn't acceptable from either.

It's not acceptable under any circumstances. If you work 911, you just don't DO that.

2005-03-22 08:53:19 PM
Fire him. That is simply awful.

2005-03-23 01:04:45 AM
You're fired, and sued.

Too bad.

According to the UPN 10pm news, the cop got a 15 day suspension.

2005-03-23 01:06:14 AM

Another friend made a second call. "Yeah," the officer responded. "Help will get there. Shouldn't be playing games, meow."

I call shenanigans.

Pistol whippings all around.

2005-03-23 01:08:06 AM
Something very similar happened around here recently. Except it was a kid calling about his parent. The kid was in shock and wasn't making sense. The 9-11 operator immeadiately treated it like a prank call and never tried to calm the kid down. Just hung up

I know they are our "protectors" and they "Keep the Peace" but they also can "Suck my balls" for all I care

It pisses me off when cops do shiat that leads to people getting hurt or getting their rights trampled and the cops get a slap on the wrist. Cops are basically above the law.

Click on link for "Political Fallout" video--a recording of the first call is a couple of minutes into the story.

2005-03-23 01:16:24 AM
god, what an asshole. i know that has to be one of the most stressful jobs in existence, but there is no context possible in which the number designated for those most helpless, most frightened, and most in immediate need should have that shiat coming from the other end.

Cops are the second most dangerous element in society.

They're pricks with ears, for the most part.

Love their propensity for using Fido for target practice with their bang-bangs.

etc. etc.

"I am absolutely outraged every time I hear that `too bad' and then click," said Sawyer's father, Jim Sawyer.

Then stop listening to it?

So hows the porno carreer working out?

2005-03-23 01:22:23 AM
My favourite is the Death Wish movie with Chuck Bronson whining about all these evidence laws holding him back from framing somebody.

Coming in a close second, all the "reality cop shows" where they edit together footage of the cops winning every time, basically using heroic propaganda to beg people not to run from these control freaks.

2005-03-23 01:24:43 AM
Get this- just watched a webcast of a news piece done on the article. At the very end, the reporter notes that the police union says that the discipline (15 days unpaid suspension) was too harsh.

I want to know what this guy did that got him stuck with phone duty. Did he already run all the widows and orphans out of town?

Honest to goodness, I saw a Toronto bicycle cop with a patch saying that sewed to his bike bag today...

2005-03-23 01:29:15 AM
just goes to show what we all should already know: cops are powertripping jerks. just imagine how they would have responded if he had hit a krispy cream of just maiming himself...

2005-03-23 01:29:35 AM
fark, fark the police. Well, at least this one.

2005-03-23 01:34:49 AM
That idiot pig shouldn't be suspended. He should be shot one time in each knee. Then when he's on the ground pissing and moaning about how bad it hurts, he should be told 'too bad' and get shot in the face. farking pig.

2005-03-23 01:34:59 AM
wtf?

2005-03-23 01:35:02 AM
Then stop listening to it?

You have got to be farking kidding me. It's not hard to pick out those who don't understand the pain of death severing a parent/child bond.

2005-03-23 01:36:53 AM

Why do I picture his voice saying "Too bad" in this story?

2005-03-23 01:37:08 AM
I once dated a 911 dispatcher. Interestingly, she said there is often a burst of activity right at shift-change time. When operators are handing off calls to each other there's always a little bit of confusion going on, and some of the bad guys seem to know the schedule and time their activities accordingly.

This is begging for an audio edit.

I can hear it now:

Peasley: (annoyed) "State police, 9-1-1."

Caller: "Oh, I'm sorry, am I interrupting something?"

eddyatwork-

-Thats a pretty lame attempt at a counter-view.
-How do we know he wasn't posessed?
-How do we know his wife didn't just leave him?
-How do we know his dog didn't just die?
-How do we know he wasn't abducted by aliens and replaced by a rude replicant?

...etc

-What we know is that he acted like a jackass when someone's life was at stake, more than enough to get his ass fired, IMO. But of course he's a cop, so he's above the law...

He wasn't a dispatcher, he was a Comm Op

/taking the first of many Comm Op tests tomorrow
//planning on saying "too bad" my first day
///"but it's my first day!"
////"our records say you've worked here for ten years! why did you lie?"
////"It's my first day!"

Dogandpony

Was passenger in a Mustang years ago that outran city cops and county sheriff. A hot car, skilled driver, knowing the territory and a little luck and the cops can lose.

/wouldn't want to do it again.

I think he needs sensitivity training.

2005-03-23 01:46:03 AM
i immediately thought of that old madtv sketch:
woman: oh my gosh! my husband is killing me!
dispatcher: excuse me mam, we at 911 don't like to be yelled at

I'm sorry, but I started reading that story and misread the word future as furniture like so:

"A very ill Scott Aston sat on the floor of his new apartment, a cell phone in his hand.
He had started furnishing the apartment for the approaching day his Dominican wife would become a permanent U.S. citizen. On that day, however, the 30-year-old's furniture was in jeopardy."

And it made me laugh. :D

That's a sad story though. :(
