Super-duper cool! I've wasted countless hours with earlier versions of NetHack over the last several years. Sometimes the "classic" games just can't be beat.

There's just something about Nethack. Dunno what it is. I might go a year or more without playing it, but sooner or later I always go back to it.

It's also probably the single most influential PC game ever. I remember reading somewhere that Diablo was actually an attempt to bring Nethack-style gaming to the masses. Diablo is a good game in it's own right, but it's no Nethack.

Clean, crisp, addictive.

Nethack, Moria, Baldur's Gate: they're pale imitations crufted up with schoolboy fantasy.

Zangband is far better then Nethack

Argh, I die fast but by odd means...This reminds me of the first time I played Final Fantasy 1, nothing beat the feeling of that game.

Bah, it takes all of 5 minutes to learn the basics of what appears to be the ultra-help assisted windows tiled version (it also looks pretty). It's fun, challenging, and teachs young children the value of human/elf/rc/etc life. Okay, so I died 3 times so far, meh.

Hey Rebrane and Scrubjosh: Make sure that you tell everyone about the cheat codes for the 3-D version of Progress Quest!

but my vote for best old school game goes to Rampart.

Rebrane: I beat Nethack 3.3.1 (the version that was current last week) once. Took me four days, after over seven years of playing the game. I think it was on 3.1.2 when I started.

The imagination is sometimes far better than graphics or sound.
