Hey, submitter, lets leave the asians out of this, okay?

2005-03-17 12:16:35 AM
What was the original headline?

2005-03-17 12:18:01 AM
"This will not in any way disrupt the normal functioning of the station," insisted Faure.

This is stupid and shortsighted. How could it not?

morrisonsl: What was the original headline?

I haven't noticed a change...

2005-03-17 12:20:16 AM
Oh, I thought you were commenting on some racial slur in the original headline.

morrisonsl: Oh, I thought you were commenting on some racial slur in the original headline.

No, a slur in the present headline.

All this explaining is making my clever joke less funny. :(

2005-03-17 12:23:25 AM
I'm sorry :(

2005-03-17 01:46:08 AM
If anyone is wondering what racial slur is in the headline, refer to Christopher Walken's gold watch monologue from Pulp Fiction: "He'd be damned if any ________ got his greasy yellow hands on his boy's birthright..."

haha I bet that skier's like "dude they actually fell for it? I can't believe those fools let me reserve 3 slopes bwaahhaa"

2005-03-17 06:29:23 AM
And in a related story...

"Not so posh bowling alley reserves three entire lanes, protected by gutter bumpers, for beginning bowlers."

20 bucks this guy breaks a leg.

I assume this: "three entire slopes" is what kronicfeld is talking about. Very funny :-)

Snowboarders are fine as long as they stay on the flats and in terrain parks don't screw up the cut of all the mogul runs ...

Hey, could you do us "asshat" skiers a favor and instruct your snowboarders to not sit down in the MIDDLE OF THE FREEKING run and sit on their rear ends so we have to try not to hit them, and maybe move to the side.

It would help us asshats out a lot.

2005-03-17 06:51:27 AM
Why is this stupid? Exclusive resort is catering to a rich guy. Seems like a win situation for all involved.

A picture of Victoria Beckham and hubby going skiing.

Most relevant pic I could find...

2005-03-17 06:59:25 AM
Look, he wanted to learn to ski with few dangers, and he produced a figure that encouraged the resort to provide such conditions.

Also, I am a snowboarder, and I am also annoyed at snowboarders who stop in the middle of the run. Well, actually, I'm going to ignore the little manufactured divide between skiiers and snowboarders and just be pissed at all people who stop in the middle of the slope. I tend to go from the top to the bottom with no such stopping in the middle... after all, that's what I paid the mountain 60 bucks a day to do.

This article should have read.
"France looking to surrender mountians to south east aisa"

DaddysLittleByte

What nucal and pathighgate said. Keep your sorry asses on the flats and the terrain park, leave the deep powder to people that can appreciate the stuff. Snowboarders are like a rash on the side of the mountain, they clutter the center of the trail and spend half the day sitting on their a**es.

Alta and Taos have it right, just say "No" to the snowboard.

2005-03-17 07:19:48 AM
I don't ski, but a lot of people in my town do ski rather frequently. After each vacation period, I'll always hear about how this person fractured that or that person broke both of those or how that person's son is in a full-body cast... and yet, these injorues are spoken of nonchalantly, like they're everyday occurances in skiing.

It is therefore mystifying to me why people like skiing: Why would ordinarily cautions people do something that so often just results in pain?

2005-03-17 07:22:46 AM
How about skiers who think that, because they ski, they have a birthright to piss on snowboarders and any infraction is the snowboarder's fault? Like standing at the bottom of a jump and then telling a snowboarder they should look where they're going when they get worked? What's on your feet doesn't give you a right to be an ass, your ability does.

Faure said the chairman of South Korea's largest conglomerate would have exclusive access from Thursday to three slopes, protected by security nets, for two hours a day between noon and 3:00 pm.

Insert Asian math joke here. . .

2005-03-17 07:24:28 AM
Well, I don't get the joke. Someone's making up Asian jokes that no one else can hear. How clever.

And why is this stupid? "Here's a boatload of money, do this thing you don't normally do for less money." "Ok." DONE.

2005-03-17 07:28:41 AM
Oh look. How cute. The Big Endians and Little Endians are preparing to go at each other.

2005-03-17 07:35:29 AM
Woohoo! Skier vs. Snowboarder flamewar!

I'm a snowboarder and even I for the most part agree with a lot of the skiers here.

In Japan, there is quite a lack of slope etiquette on both sides. The rules are simple:
1. Do NOT stop in the middle of the slope
2. Even if you fall, do your best to pop back up and move off to the side to nurse your wounds
3. Do NOT stop in the middle of the slope
4. Yeild to the people in front of you and only pass them when it is safe and you can give enough space so you don't panic them.
5. For carvers doing wide, cross-slope carves, pay attention to what is happening upslope as well as downslope.
6. There is NO...rule 6.
7. Do NOT stop in the middle of the slope.
8. Do NOT stop just over the edge of a hill where you are not visible from above
9. NO PUFTERS!...oh wait...wrong list

Anyway, related to the article, I can't say I'm not jealous of the guy. I would kill to have an entire slope or three to myself for a few days/weeks/etc. It would give me plenty of space to practice this (not close to doing it yet, but my carving is getting pretty good).

2005-03-17 07:37:31 AM
weebl,
I'd disagree with your statement that your ability allows you to be an ass. I'm not a great skier, but if any punk snowboarder or skier started mouthing off to me, I'd deck them, regardless of skill level.

It's the only activity where you can go 70 M.P.H. while standing on your own two feet. Quite a rush, once you get the hang or it.

I once broke my face skiing, the ski patrol said "Dude, you broke your face". So I got back on the lift and got in another 6 runs, before caling it a day.

It's like quitting smoking, you'd have to do it to understand it.

Skiers pi** on snowboarders because they can. What's a snowboarder to do? They can't catch a skier, on the flats or on a hill, let alone poling uphill. They just kind of flop around in the snow, so why not run them over for good measure?
They're just so much clutter on the mountain.

Now I'm all worked up, just thinking about it makes me want to run down a few snowboarders. I poke 'em with my poles on the way by, they always yelp when you do that.

This Boobies, of the submitter giving kudos to his own post threw me off.

DaddysLittleByte: Skiers are asshats

Of course if we did not exist, you would not have anywhere at all to ski.

Also, when the top snowboarder beats the top skier in any of the four alpine events, then you will have my eternal respect.

Four long elegant edges and independent suspension will beat two short edges and limited weight transfer right now and probably into the near future.

2005-03-17 07:54:37 AM
Heh that would have been good for me when I was learning to ski. I ended up tumbling all the way down the hill a few times and smashed into the hay stuffed gates at the bottom. Weee. That was sooo fun.

2005-03-17 08:27:40 AM
GOOD. Keep the beginners off the damn blues and above. And while we're at it, 90% of you snowboarders can lick my balls. You spend half the day sitting on your ass in the middle of the run or edging down them at 4 mph.

Oh? Can you do this on skis? (check out the latest video "opus 4: Lifted" to get a good idea of what it is like...even if you don't snowboard, it is pretty impressive stuff)

Give me two edges that can be controlled to the point of being able to smoothly lay down turns one after another any day. ;)

I've been snowboarding for a couple of years now and have never spent half the day on my ass or cluttering up the middle of the trail.

Sounds like I am missing out on a lot of quality boarding. Good thing there is a couple weeks left in the season here, I've got lots of ass sitting in the middle of the slope to catch up on.

Thanks skiiers for pointing out what I am missing.

Lol, awesome man. Wish I could day the same, I took a header last year and tore something in my shoulder, at the time I thought I may have broken my collarbone. I kinda limped down the hill... and took one more run. :)

I've torn the a shoulder muscle doing a pole plant, that hurts worse than a broken face. No more runs for me that day :(

But you know what I'm talking about!

Well...well...this one time I was skiing and I went off this jump and landed in a pine tree and impaled myself on a branch and then the tree fell over with me and went off the cliff and we fell like 100 feet and got buried in an avalanche. I, like, totally died but it was so awesome I did like three more runs first.

The classic battle....skier v. snowboarder. Get over it and stay out of the middle of the slopes, both of you. There is enough mountain for the AARP ski patrol, punks, fashion victims, hicks, an even clueless Korean CEOs.

I like both sports. Nothing beats a snowboard in powder and skiing Super G is a true thrill.

Careful, frijole_tex. All that being reasonable and taking moderate positions gets you around here is attacked by both sides.

I once gave birth to twins while skiing down a double black diamond. I was having such a blast though, that I left them there, and didn't come back for them until I had done another 18 runs. Unfortunately, they were both frozen solid by that time.

I guess you had to be there.
