I saw a stand in the shopping precinct this afternoon. The sign read "Free Body Fat Check" and there was a guy dishing out leaflets. I assume he wanders up to people and says "Hey, you have a fat arse, try this ...".

I have an Omron Body Fat Analyzer that works really well.

It's the American way. Americans LIKE being fat and spoiled.

If more of us took a cue from our Asian friends on living healthier lifestyles maybe we wouldn't be paying out our arses in health insurance costs due to smokers and fatties.

The closest I could see this working in the US at places like Mcdonalds is if the people within the acceptable range get a 'discount', which the government pays for. If the government didn't pay for it, then Mcdonalds could just jack up the prices and discount skinny people to pay the normal prices. One way or another, executing this as a 'tax' on fat people wouldn't work.

If you want to be fat, fine. But props for the initiative to at least encourage a healthy lifestyle.

They had one of those machines in the supermarket I go to. The first customer who stepped onto it crushed it.

Hell where does all the cigarette tax go...it can't cost more than a few nickels a pack to manufacture 20 cigarettes and a box. What are they, 4, 5 bucks a pack? Peopele still buy them. Around here, they buy A LOT of them.

I predict we tax a Big Mac $2.00 extra and sales will stay the same.

I was in S'pore last year, and I was amazed at the number of 'fat clinics' the place has. Honestly, for a island nation where no-one weighs more than 150lbs, they're obsessed with being thin.

My darling Singaporean wife (120lbs soaking wet) is considered fat over there. Which is weird, because her BMI is spot-on. And she's not fat. :)
