Hehe.

2005-03-14 06:37:51 PM
Note to self: remember to use plane when flying.

2005-03-14 06:41:49 PM
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that alcohol was a factor.

I have a friend at the Academy and apparently theres someplace on campus that they like to jump from one building to another or something (I don't remember specifics)
Drink tends to play a role. . . .

2005-03-14 10:47:56 PM
Never jump out of a perfectly good building.

2005-03-14 11:57:41 PM
I suspect Justin Timberlake is behind this.

2005-03-14 11:59:42 PM
School officials have not said what caused the cadet to fall...

Ummm....gravity?

2005-03-15 12:00:25 AM
Back when the Academy was HARD, they had jumpers all the time. Senator Bumfukk's kid couldn't take it, but he couldn't run home a quitter either.

2005-03-15 12:00:31 AM
Don't give him too much grief. He got the throwing himself to the ground part right, he just forgot to miss.

2005-03-15 12:00:36 AM
I'm worried about my next flight lesson.

Sounds like Zozo in Final Fantasy 6.

Not to threadjack, but can someone tell me what happened to the Bacon thread?

2005-03-15 12:05:26 AM
Did the colonoscopy girl (AKA Cameron Diaz) hurt herself?

/wait for it...

2005-03-15 12:06:03 AM
I guess he didn't keep his arms and legs together before ejecting.

2005-03-15 12:07:29 AM
Yes, where is the bacon?

2005-03-15 12:07:44 AM
Happens a lot at west point. Hot as hell in the barracks during the summer because there is no ac, nice big windows to sit in to keep yourself cool, not paying attention and fall 6 floors to the ground.

2005-03-15 12:09:13 AM
Bacon would have broken his fall.

2005-03-15 12:10:37 AM
He wasn't a baby, he was to hard for Jacko to keep a hold of.

2005-03-15 12:11:47 AM
Up and away, Junior Bird-Man!

2005-03-15 12:14:34 AM
Gravity! It's not just a good idea, it's the law!

2005-03-15 12:15:34 AM

"He didn't fly; he just fell with style."

2005-03-15 12:16:34 AM
I bet he just got tired of his faggy roommate dancing to C&C Music Factory.

2005-03-15 12:22:56 AM
Ugh, typical. I was stationed at the USAFA for a while. Lot of good folks there, and lots of cadets who will make fine officers. Unfortunately the smart/asshat ratio is not what what it should be and idiocy runs rampant in some areas.

Hint to current and future cadets: don't drink an entire bottle of Everclear, it will seriously (as in drop dead) screw you up.

That is all.

/nice headline

When I was last on Okinawa I was wandering home from the Bowling Alley on Camp Foster up the hill to the Staff barracks when I happened to see three Marines hanging out their fourth floor windows.

I had to do the leadership thing and be the heavy and tell them this is dangerous and stupid and blah blah blah...

"Yes Gunny!" "It will never happen again Gunny!"

After a night of partying on $8.00 Japanese Budweisers they apparently thought it would be a cool idea to see who could do the most pull ups from their window ledge.

I went home and fell asleep. A couple of months later I rotated back to the states.

While I was on the flight from Kadena to LAX, a young Marine fell from his window ledge while trying to do drunken pull ups. 19 years old. Dead. I heard about it when I checked into Onofre. There was a huge Congressional investigation (CONGRINT) about it. Everybody thought he was thrown or pushed.

Truth be told, for a young man, far away from home for the first time, with access to alcohol, there is no shortage of trouble to get into.

Not too long ago the same thing happened to a student at MIT. He died after falling out of a window during a drinking contest...

Sad.

2005-03-15 12:33:41 AM
...the accident is under investigation and further details will be available when the investigation is complete.

Let me guess. A mixture of stupidity, alcohol and gravity.

2005-03-15 12:34:52 AM
dumbass

2005-03-15 12:39:11 AM
I wonder if he rode the short bus to school as well.

2005-03-15 12:44:24 AM
Maybe he had just violated the don't ask, don't tell policy...

2005-03-15 12:46:39 AM
Sweet headline, submitter!

2005-03-15 12:51:26 AM
Any landing that you can walk away from.

2005-03-15 12:51:57 AM
Maybe he had just violated the don't ask, don't tell policy...

I ask: What happened to the bacon thread?

You tell: ?

We: PROFIT!

2005-03-15 12:52:21 AM
Go Embry-Riddle ya bastards...

2005-03-15 12:53:36 AM
I had to do the leadership thing and be the heavy and tell them this is dangerous and stupid and blah blah blah...

You did the right thing. Probably saved a few dumbass wetback lives.

2005-03-15 12:57:23 AM
"And Cameron Diaz was on her dresser, and just like this... AAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!"

2005-03-15 12:58:42 AM
Sounds like he flew perfectly well. Just his landing technique farked him up.

2005-03-15 01:02:22 AM
The bacon thread's gone?

But... but... but I wanted to try some of what was posted. C'mon, how can you go wrong with bacon-wrapped butter?

2005-03-15 01:08:55 AM
watch out that first step is a biatch

2005-03-15 01:12:37 AM
i have a friend at the academy who was actually really surprised this is on the news sites already... apparently they have a pretty strict gagging policy with regards to 'incidents.'

Anyway, the word is it was a suicide attempt

2005-03-15 01:16:36 AM
Suicide? From two floors up? Was there a bed of nails conviently located on the ground below?

2005-03-15 01:17:48 AM
Suicidal people generally aren't the most intelligent...

2005-03-15 01:20:57 AM
um...Code Red?

After all, Bacon has gone missing right?

(I know Santiago was a Marine and that Bacon was the attorney, but it is the first thing I thought of when I RTFA)

2005-03-15 01:29:15 AM
but seriously, what did happen to the bacon thread?

2005-03-15 01:29:30 AM
When they don't say why, it means two things:

1) Too much grog,

and

2) Not enough lift

2005-03-15 02:20:33 AM
This wasn't that guy who was bustin' a move to dance numbers as soon as his roommate left, was it? Cuz I probably would've pitched that guy out, too.

I presume that all of you, like me, with nothing better to do, are familiar with the video?

2005-03-15 06:56:54 AM
That video of the cadet dancing is the tenth greatest thing ever posted on the internet

2005-03-15 07:20:36 AM
well done PDRAKE. My first thought.

/I am a pitiful, sad man

2005-03-15 07:58:35 AM
Did Marsellus have anything to do with it?

2005-03-15 09:03:41 AM
Freshman on academy grounds. I can almost guarantee that alcohol was NOT involved. Suicide attempt is certainly within the realm of possibilities.

2005-03-15 09:30:49 AM
Another guy said:

To which I'll reply, that would be the practice of "going airborne" which involves leaping from the third-floor Terrazo level to the lamppost at the West end of Vandenburg Hall. It's about 6 feet or so to the lamppost, but if ye misses, it's a good 30 feet to the ground below.

This kid went out a window under completely different circumstances. Musta hurt like a mofo.
