Somehow that seems to correlate pretty well with them having a job too.

Oh boy, this is wiki-based. I can imagine all the stupid definitions that'll ensue when this goes live.

2005-03-12 11:50:09 AM
I am shocked by how stupid some definitions are already.

Take, for instance, Vancity

noun
Vancity

Term is basically referring to Vancouver City, in British Columbia Canada. Vancity is divided into two parts, the west side and the east side. Westside of vancity is the rich side and the eastside is the poor side. Hence, east vancity is referring to the poorer side of the city. "Slangin and bangin' ain't tha thang to be, straight outta east Vancity, mean to be me" -- Phat Dawg (Underground Artist from Vancouver).

Um... "basically" referring to "Vancouver City"? Since the (obvious) submitter, "Phat Dawg", is from there, he should have figured out by now that the name of the city is "Vancouver". Moran.

Actually, this is a pretty useful link. We run across tons of these words while doing closed captioning, expecially rap videos and MTV. I used this just the other day while captioning an interview with Russell Simmons. He was explaining the origin of "Def Jam," and said that Rick Rubin got it wrong, since the slang at the time was "death." It was hard to understand him saying it, but it was all explained by the entry for "def."

Oh, and to this comment:
About 3 black people in the world stick to this vocabulary. Many I know use real words.

It's not called the black people's dictionary, it's called the rap dictionary. Have you listened to rap lately? Real words it ain't.

Am I the only one that knows quite a few black people who wish hip-hop culture would go away, or at least not be so powerful as to over-hadow the voices of blacks who do not wish to be percieved as smack-talking idiots.

The funny part is just how many of these terms are credited to Dr. Dre.

Truly an innovator ;)

1. Find out the latest/dumbest urban buzzword (bonus points if you make it up while smoking reefer with your "dawgs")

2. Write a song in which you repeat said word about eighty times. Use your Casio for the breakbeat, no one will know or care

3. Rake in millions

4. You are now a hiphop superstar

It's funny that many of the business majors I know are really into rap/hiphop, since both business ed and the music genre currently seem to revolve around buzzword nonsense.

It's funny cause it's true, and both are treated with contempt by those not in their feilds.
