Most porn shops that I have seen or been to have either no windows, or blacked out windows. This being said, no kid is going to know what an Adam & Eve shop is unless you are a sucky parent and let the child wander off and they go into the place inadvertently.

Well, my experience is from the Tampa area. And yes, you can not see in to the stores, but the big bright ADULT SEX TOYS sign in 6 foot letters makes it obvious what is inside.

Then again we have a store here in Boulder called "Fascinations" I think. It's pretty discret and the only reason I know what's inside is because I have seen commercials on late night TV.

If all stores were like this porn stores would bother me less...

I still wouldn't want one next to my business though.

Well, in that case, porn is not hurting your relationship, rather you hiding and lying to your wife is hurting the relationship.

What if he wasn't hiding it or lying about it? Would it still hurt the relationship if she objected.

I agree that porn isn't the problem.

I do feel needing porn to have a happy sex life is an indication of a bigger problem in most marriages... (not all, like I said it can be "OK" if they are both into it).

Yeah... probably the later.

I can't wait until we can let this all go... When we understand that sex is sex and can mean a variety of things in a variety of different ways.... that the only way sex can be immoral is if it is forced upon someone.... and that some edible panties never hurt anyone. Except that one guy but he had no business wearing them to the zoo.

Of course it's for procreation, missionary and in the dark! Those things allow for some seriously deep penetration, which increases the chance of pregnancy. Jesus would surely approve!

Certainly! How could I not have seen it? Yeah, the Love Swing is all about improving the penetration. It's certainly a friend of the "little man". Ummm...not that I'd know or anything...

Chuck_The_Plant anyone know of a nice place to stay in florida for a few days? Preferably somewhere warm and relatively non-party oriented aka not panama city esque.

Gulf Shores, Alabama. It's got all the white sandy beaches of Panama City Beach and Destin, without all the kids and riff-raff. A short trip away is an outlet mall (Foley) and take her to Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile.

How does porn cause crime?

Porn over inflates men's thought of women and sex, causing them not to be eroused by typical women or satisfied with just sex. Then, do to the frustration of not being able to get off, or even get it up, men addicted to porn will begin a trend of violence. Start picking fights to prove their manhood, drink to much, try to fulfill fantasies. When women stop seeing them they tend to lead into sexual crimes and abuse. After raping women, they are overwhelmed with guilt, convert to Catholicism, become priests, and rape little boys.

I could see how it could teach you some things, but how does it help the relationship, aside from possibly better sex? (There is more to a relationship than just sex).

Sex is an important part of a relationship. If the sex is not good, the relationship will eventually end (unless someone is ok with cheating).

I went to a couple strip clubs in SF when I was 19 for a bachlors party. To me it was like going grocery shopping with no money. Sure it gets you hungry, sure the foods right there. But you still leave hungry.

I see the point, guys like boobies. Just didn't seem productive, and $8.00 for a coke is absurd :P

It wouldn't be any different than you marrying a woman who hates that you ride motorcycles, or play golf, or feed the homeless every weekend when she would prefer you shower her with attention. Porn isn't the problem, it's that you have poor communication or you married the wrong person.

And who said anything about "needing" porn to have a happy marriage? I have a happy marriage right now. Taking a romantic vacation to Bora Bora would certainly add some happiness to our relationship/sex-life. Does that mean I need a vacation to have a happy marriage or sex life? No. It just means it might help it even more.
You can't assume because people want to use something that they *need* it to achieve happiness.

Perhaps the protesters would be happier if the shop stocked guns, too, because then they'd feel comfortable going in and shopping. "Oh hi Jethro. Naw, I ain't plannin' to buy this copy of 'Gayboy Drive-In Blowjobs.' I'm pickin' up a new shotgun."

Reminded me of this one shack somewhere in Noble County, Indiana where they sell guns, knives, and adult novelties. It was in the middle of farmland. Truly a laff riot.

my wifey is not into porn. but she is interested in maybe getting some toys and other fun stuff. it would be nice if there could be a sex shoppe that did not sell any porn. just lingerie, toys, flavored "candy wrappers", whip cream, edible panties and the like. you know make it something classy to encourage couples to come in together. if i were a women I would hate porn shops too, there is no way a woman can compete with these sex freaks who orgasm at first touch. sure we all know it is fake, but it makes women so self conscious.

I don't think it's so much that people are saying pornography is necessary for a happy relationship. I think people are stating here that they like pornography and find it adds something to their sex lives. I see nothing wrong with this whatsoever as long as it's not dominating their relationship. Just like anything else, pornography can be addictive and cause problems. I've also seen this happen to people with work, sports, friends, food, books, whatever. When someone becomes obsessed with something and it affects their daily lives, they'll probably have marital issues too.

As for a porn store moving in by other, non-porn businesses. Well, I understand why people would be offended or uneasy, but I think that's a personal issue and needs to be dealt with alone. I don't think adult businesses should be required to stay outside of towns or out in the boonies because what they're selling is NOT ILLEGAL. Should they take reasonable steps to ensure minors aren't overly exposed to their wares? Yes, I think that would be appropriate. Bars aren't required to be out in the boonies, though, even though minors can't drink. Cigarettes are sold all over the place even though people under 18 can't purchase them and they actually are proven to kill you.

I wish people in this country would just come to terms with sex and be done with it. If it wasn't treated as such a taboo subject, I'm sure the backalley nature of sex shops and the like would probably go away.

/Surprised they allow gynecologists to be near other doctors and in towns. They look at girl parts in there!

I am no stranger to porn, but I also know where the other side is coming from. Mostly because my parents are devout Christians. Why porn is bad, so the belief goes, is that when you are looking at women (or men, animals, etc.) for sexual pleasure that you aren't married to, you are committing adultery. It doesn't matter, so the belief goes, if you aren't even married, still adultery.

Because what a great community it would be if there were overt porn shops on every corner...

It isn't about the "taboo"ness of it, it is about discretion.

Yes sex is good. Yes we all have sex. But sex is a private thing and being discrete about it in public does not make you a prude.

Some subjects are just better left for quiet discussion rather than broadcast.

I don't want to hear about your yeast infection, nor your hemmorids. I don't care if you just switched maxi-pads and this one gets less blood on your panties.

All of these are "natural" things, but a little class goes a long way.

It is about respecting the community.

There is a nice beach in St. Pete. My sis lives in Tampa and works at a bar in St. Pete called Cooter's. Nice place with great seafood.

Dear god... these sorts of people mystify me. Sex is natural, sex is everywhere, sex is one of the strongest drives we have as human beings, sex is part of us, part of our bodies! There is nothing wrong with sexuality and there is nothing wrong with porn - god knows it has to have saved a few lives with all the rampant STDs about these days. To link porn with child molestation and rape is bonkers - some people who have commited those crimes owned porn. I wonder if some of them ate chocolate bars to? Lets go picket the supermarkets until they stop selling chocolate.

Man - so many unthinking minds in this country!

Is it really that big of a deal, though? Is it such a terrible, dirty thing to engage in that we have to relegate the stores that sell legal pornographic material and sex toys to the middle of nowhere for the "good of society"? I'm biased, I guess, but I don't see such businesses as harming society in any way, form, or fashion.

Yes sex is good. Yes we all have sex. But sex is a private thing and being discrete about it in public does not make you a prude.

Actually, from the definition of prude, it means exactly that. :) I don't think anyone is calling for people to broadcast everything they can about their sexuality, but trying to pretend it doesn't exist is silly. And yes, at least IMHO, forcing such businesses to be out in the middle of nowhere is pretending they don't exist.

I don't want to hear about your yeast infection, nor your hemmorids. I don't care if you just switched maxi-pads and this one gets less blood on your panties.

All of these are "natural" things, but a little class goes a long way.

It is about respecting the community.

This is why if you don't like it, you go elsewhere. I don't want to hear about a lot of things people talk about around me, but, I have no right to ask them to stop talking about it. I'm sure I talk about stuff that people don't want to hear as well (I end up talking computer stuffs a lot and baffling people). Does this mean if some people disapprove, I should have to move elsewhere so they're not offended? You don't have a right to not be offended.

Though it is about respecting the community. ALL of the community, including those who frequent sex stores. Do they have an inalienable right to have sex stores? No. But if we can push these away on moral or ethical grounds, what are we to do if PETA gets word of it and begins trying to force restaurants that serve meat to be far out of the community? Or what if people want to force churches out of town for being offensive? It's a slippery slope.

Okay, yeah, I'm rambling. It's one of the topics that bugs me because it's such a simple, simple thing that is turned into a complicated mess of morals and values. Just leave people alone and let them do as they please.
