link just gives me a page that says newsflash.

Makes me want to pull a jihad on whoever submitted it.
2002-03-19 05:22:20 PM
The first hole was located at that website cause that story comepletely dissapeared down it. Link is busted. Who patented hyperlinks, BT Telecom? I'm suing them for a non- working link . Bastards.
2002-03-19 05:23:10 PM
The link worked until Cleveland burned a hole in itself. Sad. Don't go there for about 10,000 years, ok?
2002-03-19 05:25:21 PM
Clearly has too many syllables for correct Camptownization.
2002-03-19 05:25:28 PM
I heard the terrorists were creating supernatural rats with carbide teeth to put holes in reactors. I wonder if they got to the server too.
2002-03-19 05:25:54 PM
Change it to "Two holes found in reactor, doo dah doo dah" and it'd work.

And c'mon, this isn't the WORST doo dah ever. Remember "Black Ice has a buffer overflow exploit doo dah doo dah?"
2002-03-19 05:27:36 PM
Horst: We plan to have some frank discussions with your safety inspector.
Homer: Hee hee. Yeah. Sock it to him, Horst!
Len: Psst, Homer. Aren't the safety inspector?
Homer: [sees his nametag, ``SAFETY INSPECTOR''] D'oh!

(I'm an idiot, albeit a well-intentioned one.)
2002-03-19 05:34:35 PM
Hm. A 1" cavity that poses no threat to anything at all. Let's make a big deal out of this!

"Second hole found in reactor" isn't doo-dah-doo-dah' too many syllables...
2002-03-19 05:39:51 PM
"The acid is a byproduct of the nuclear fission process inside the reactor. The reactor has 69 control rods. The nozzles are vertical tubes that house the rods, which absorb excess neutrons in the reactor core. "

sounds like they should have used blue ice tums...

second hole found in yo mama's bootie... it's where she stores her nuts
2002-03-19 05:40:52 PM
DrUnne, Personally it's not the 1" hole that bothers me. It's the fact that they don't know what caused it and have no way of knowing that the THIRD one they find won't be 20 feet across.

I suspect that it's the fault of that little duck in a hardhat (Nuclear Kudos to anyone who catches *that* reference)
2002-03-19 05:41:55 PM
thank god it's Cleveland that's downwind from Davis Besse and not Toledo. Whew.
2002-03-19 05:42:18 PM
FoamingPipeSnake: There's a hole in the link when one tries to post it. That's the problem.
2002-03-19 05:42:37 PM
OK, scratch that. They *do* know what caused it. Cupajo reading comprehension no am good.

2002-03-19 07:03:44 PM
Hey, I live in the evacuation zone of the damned thing. You think two holes in the head of the reactor is bad? Well, they had a loss of coolant accident *BEFORE* the Three Mile Island event, a coolant system malfunction in 1985, then the plant was hit by a farking *TORNADO* in 1998. You want pure sphincter-constricting joy? Try the sirens going off (which also occurs for tornado warnings). Now they have two holes (which they don't know how long they've been there) in the top of the reactor, and around an inch of stainless steel (instead of that and 6 inches of normal steel) over the PRESSURIZED core. That's right. This thing is like a pressure-cooker or steam-boiler. If any part of it is weak or gets a hole in it, it'll blow, leading to a loss of coolant and possible damage to the control rod and safety mechanisms.

Why's a loss of coolant so scary? If there's nothing to cool it down, think "China Syndrome" aka meltdown.

Scary stuff.
