Nice effect.

that is cool.
2002-03-20 12:13:48 AM
Agreed. I wish they could leave it up, but there would be problems with airplanes and migratory birds. *sigh*
2002-03-20 12:14:25 AM
Bat signal?
2002-03-20 12:14:52 AM
I am sorry, but I find it cheap and flashy. if it makes you all feel good then, hey, good deal, cool beans, pick your excitment.
2002-03-20 12:18:01 AM
One bat signal, hold the lettuce...

Anyone know how much energy is needed to keep that lit per night?
2002-03-20 12:22:27 AM
How garish! They should use strobe lights.
2002-03-20 12:23:00 AM
Kansas City has a pillar of light too.....

it's cheesy

2002-03-20 12:23:16 AM
I'm sorry, but I find the whole thing really stupid.

If you wanna build a 'bout something that will last? Like a statue, or something?

But as mentioned before, if this is your thing, so be it.

They ARE building a permanent memorial, but they don't have a final design yet. That takes time. This is only temporary. Sort of a "Don't forget me" sign.

pretty amazing, and what a beautiful memorial.
2002-03-20 12:27:41 AM
It's really an awesome sight. I get to see it every night from my apartment.
2002-03-20 12:27:51 AM
its going to cost about 100,000.00 to run it each month. the utility company is paying for the electricity. its a beautiful temporary memorial.

SFOTW: You certianly seem to have a lot of pent up aggression. Possibly caused by a repressed memory of child neglect. Now SFOTW, tell me about your mother...

are they aware that gifs and jpegs can be larger than 20 square pixels?
2002-03-20 12:29:36 AM
It's a signal to our alien cousins. telling them to come join our war and blow up more people. yes, we are descended from aliens and apes. think about it
2002-03-20 12:31:06 AM
I can see it from MY apartment. And I live in California. It's that bright.
2002-03-20 12:31:10 AM
I wonder if it draws moths. Somehow the idea of the whole thing being a giant column of blinded hairy bugs spiralling to their doom is. . . oddly satisfying.
2002-03-20 12:34:08 AM
This is great for the interim, but I personally think they should just put two sequoia tree saplings in between two new towers. Call them peace trees and have the entire as a huge park. The trees would grow to be huge over the course of a few hundred years.
2002-03-20 12:41:47 AM
considering sequoia trees only grow in california, i doubt that thats possible..
2002-03-20 12:42:45 AM
but im not trying to be a smartass, i like the idea of what you said.
2002-03-20 12:43:49 AM
This memorial will become self-subsidizing when they start projecting advertisements in the sky.
2002-03-20 12:43:56 AM
considering sequoia trees only grow in california, i doubt that thats possible..

The solution is to move New York.
2002-03-20 12:47:01 AM
A new bridge to Manhattan made from the bones of the terrorists would be more fitting.

Guess my bloodlust is still there.
2002-03-20 12:47:04 AM
Since you've only been a farker for a day statik, I'll cut you some slack.
2002-03-20 12:47:29 AM
I think it's pretty eerie actually... Personally, I'd have just sacrificed a lamb instead.
2002-03-20 12:47:35 AM
I do have to say that the whole thing is a pretty cool idea.
2002-03-20 12:50:03 AM
We destroyed a country in their memory, I don't think a couple of damn lights is going to do any more good.
2002-03-20 12:51:18 AM
If we really wanted to avenge them, we would be going after bin Laden, not shoveling him off as "defeated" or "not important" like SOME are currently doing/trying to do... *shifty eyes*
2002-03-20 12:51:53 AM
A moving memorial...or an Illuminati two-fingered salute?
2002-03-20 12:54:36 AM
I think it's a couple of lights, but that's as nifty a hastily thrown together blame the illuminati website as any I've ever seen.
2002-03-20 12:54:51 AM
i like the idea, the symbolism and the way it looks. But the idea of putting a couple of trees there (Stephenv) is a really good one. that would be fitting.

oh, and to stop killing innocent people in far off lands, that would be even better.

NeonFrog: I have been laughing my ass off at your comment since 03-20-02 12:31:06 AM. Hilarious.

Wait, what's this about a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center?
2002-03-20 01:24:00 AM
they need some bigger photos...
2002-03-20 01:25:12 AM
if you cross your eyes, this looks sorta similar.

2002-03-20 01:28:25 AM
I read that it was 10,000 in donated power for the month, not 100,000
2002-03-20 01:32:03 AM
You know, if they built the twin towers out of light in the first place, none of this would've happened.
2002-03-20 01:35:09 AM
It's the uplink to my user!
2002-03-20 01:49:58 AM
I agree about the eerie feeling.

On one hand, it's a nice thought. A tribute to people who didn't realize what 'work ethic' really meant until that day.

On the other, it's almost a garish display so that the rest of us can feel a little bit better about surviving.

I wonder how the victims families feel. Whether they get a sense of comfort from it, or not.
2002-03-20 01:54:52 AM
HA HA HA... UPLINK to my USER! now thats comedy.... lol

...tron?? What do you mean TRON? What the hell is TRON??? I thought it was... well... damnit... nevermind its not funny...
2002-03-20 01:57:44 AM
I think Luxor helped in some way with that. I remember hearing about it on the news, but I never cared too much to listen to what they said.
2002-03-20 02:53:56 AM
symbols are for the simple-minded
2002-03-20 03:13:56 AM
I read a Letter-To-The-Editor where some guy was complaining mightily that the lights resembled the columns of light that lit the sky behind Hitler at his rallies.

Uh, yeah, I see the similarity, but ... geez.

Incidentally, has anybody else here noticed that the web site for this Farkticle is written in the future tense? Couldn't they have taken 10 minutes to update the sucker?
2002-03-20 04:01:44 AM
I can see this from my apartment in NJ. It's really nice, I think its a good temporary tribute.
2002-03-20 06:38:31 AM
What? Something happened to the World Trade Center? When did that happen?

You guys are just joking right?
