Not that it matters... that was my old house.. this where I now reside and it still doesn't match... no wonder I feel like a fish out of water. I don't do ANY of these things.

Never had a passport and I don't even know what Ann Taylor or Keogh are. Can't watch NYPD ever since they showed sipowitz's ASS!

18 Young Influentials

The lowest average income for any of those groups listed is $51,700. What the hell am -I- doing here? Sheesh... No wonder all my neighbors hate me. And I thought it was just becuase I was an asshole.

In the interest of fairness, here's microvision's results. Apparently, I'm the last white trash person living in this neighborhood!

85254's most common MicroVision Segments are:
Number Name
3 Established Wealth
4 Mid-Life Success
2 Lap Of Luxury
5 Prosperous Metro Mix
1 Upper Crust

I should be 45 and making much less money but contributing to PBS. Too bad I spent it all on shotguns and chewing tobacco.

All wrong,

no wonder I feel out of place here.

It's nuts.

If it isn't random, it's certainly not demographically accurate.

It's got my area of Austin (78741) pegged. College students and Hispanics. Of course, anyone who's even driven through here once could tell you that. I tried my parents' ZIP in west-central wisconsin, though, and it was completely wrong.

Also, about 5 out of the 10 PRIZM clusters said that they were likely to "visit Sea World." Is this some sort of corporate tie-in?

2002-03-18 01:40:45 AM
How about 34449 (Inglis, Florida) :

Oxygen breathers.
Automobile drivers.

This is sooooo eery.

2002-03-18 01:58:23 AM
Hey Radish..I live close by.. 78751 lots of college students but not a lot of hispanics, unless you drive up lamar a few miles. Anyway, they don't have Bastrop in there either.

Hi Mary_Jane, yeah, that's not far away.
I like it here; I'm pretty far east so I'm out of some of the traffic/crazyness, and a lot of my friends live close by too.

My wife wants us to move from:

Lap Of Luxury
Prosperous Metro Mix

That's sufficient grounds for divorce right??

PRIZM:

Compton 90220's most common PRIZM Clusters are:

4 Pools & Patios
30 Mid-City Mix
31 Latino America
46 Hispanic Mix
47 Inner Cities

Ha. Pools & Patios? Okay buddy. I especially like their description of number 47 - Inner Cities:

47 Inner Cities
Inner-City, Single Parent Families
Age group: Under 18, 18-34
Blue-Collar/Service
Household income: 16,500
1.86% of U.S. households belong to this PRIZM Cluster.

This PRIZM Cluster is most likely to...

Buy baby food
Buy soul/r&b/black music
Pay bills by phone
Watch pay-per-view sports
Read National Enquirer

This PRIZM Cluster lives in neighborhoods like...

Detroit, MI
Hyde Park, IL
Morningside, NY

I especially like it because my state (NJ) is above average for this. Unfortunately my town isn't.. but the one (New Brunswick) next door is!

As for MicroVision's take on Compton:

90220's most common MicroVision Segments are:
Number Name
24 City Ties
41 Close-Knit Families
46 Difficult Times
10 Home Sweet Home
28 Building A Family

Their description of #46 - Difficult times:

Demographics: Very low income families, age 18-24, with 3 or more children, more than 5 person households

Lifestyle & Retail: Buy video games, dine at fast food chicken restaurants, use non-prescription cough syrup, and use laundries and laundromats

Communications & Technology: Have an unlisted phone number, have voice mail or messaging custom phone service, have call tracing custom calling feature

Financial: Acquired annuity last year, have Allstate property/casualty insurance, and acquired a home equity line of credit

Media: Watch the Oprah Winfrey Show and Family Matters (syndication), read Ebony magazine, and listen to urban contemporary format radio

Geography: Urban areas, especially in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia

...

That's right. Eat at fast food chicken restaurants. *cough* .. racist much?

2002-03-18 03:18:38 AM
Not to mention the hersey of non-prescription cough medicine. Heresy!

Unless it's an allusion to sippin' on sizzurb

2002-03-18 03:20:02 AM
Pardon my posting diarrhea. My repetion of 'heresy' in both typetard and normal talk looks funny.

2002-03-18 03:20:52 AM

This stupid thing couldn't be more wrong about me. Glad I don't fit into any of their demographics.

2002-03-18 03:47:26 AM
2 Winner's Circle
Executive Suburban Families
NO--Age group: 45-64
YES-Professional
YES-Household income: 90,700
2.26% of U.S. households belong to this PRIZM Cluster.

NO--Have a passport
NO--Shop at Ann Taylor
NO--Have Keogh plan
NO--Watch NYPD Blue
NO--Read epicurean magazines

So the only thing they got right was that I live in a nice neighborhood....

2002-03-18 03:53:16 AM
41 Big Sky Families
Midscale Couples, Kids & Farmland
Age group: Under 18, 35-64
Blue-Collar/Farming
Household income: 51,600
1.51% of U.S. households belong to this PRIZM Cluster.

Hmm. Close. But my parents don't hold blue-collar jobs. And I'm over 18 (by a year.)

This PRIZM Cluster is most likely to...

Be rodeo fans
Own a cat
Have a pension plan
Watch QVC
Read Soap Opera Digest

Well, Mom likes the rodeo, and we have plenty of cats. I'm not sure about the pension plan, am not sure as to what QVC even is (we don't have cable), and know for a fact that nobody in my household watches soaps.

2002-03-18 04:00:05 AM
It'd be great if the stupid farking worked. I keep getting these bullshiat ":::::: Unexpected Error :::::::::e.toString(): java.lang.NullPointerException" messages. Crappy coding. This is what happens when your company hires the lowest bidder on a job.

-he who stacks pork

2002-03-18 04:16:31 AM
Hee-hee! I like 49963's most common PRIZM Clusters.

59 Rustic Elders
62 Hard Scrabble

Where is South Range, anyway?

2002-03-18 05:17:15 AM
These things are like horoscopes. They fit everyone, therefore they fit no one. If you think the results are worth something, then the results match. If you think it's all BS, then its exactly that.

Ugh... this disgusts me.

2002-03-18 06:58:54 AM
According to that thing everyone in my town is an auto racing fan, watches auto racing, has a dog, and drinks diet seven up.

I gotta get out of here, I've never drank diet 7-up in my life when I wasnt trying to throw up!

Someone's a poor programmer. The PRIZM option doesn't work, and the MicroVision option gives Java null pointer exception errors when the results page comes up.

It's called TESTING, people . . .

2002-03-18 08:20:05 AM
I am glad that there are marketing resources like this to perpetuate stereotypical myths about the south. Thanks. Now it is time to go hop on the tractor and head off to work. Bye y'all ya hear! Y'all come back now!

UK people

The nearest UK segmentation tool to this is on-line at
upmystreet. Its called Acorn but it doesnt really tell you as much.

Claritas do have Prizm for the UK but I don't think you can search it on-line. Basically this data comes from a variety of sources - the main ones being those little questionnaires you fill in that you find in the boxes of products you buy.
