Anyone know why only some of the greenlighted articles have headline voting?

alcoholic_entropy: Anyone know why only some of the greenlighted articles have headline voting?

I was wondering the same. Maybe mods only enable it on articles that they want better headlines for?

If that's the case, why do they give the original headline a 50-vote advantage sometimes?

I was thinking that maybe the non-voting greenlights are actually mod submissions.

I have no idea. I'm confused by the whole thing. ;)

2005-02-21 09:07:57 AM
It doesn't have anything to do with the queue- the voting article is hours before all the rest. I've been trying to understand this for a few days and can't find an answer.

2005-02-21 09:09:52 AM
I think it's because it's a new idea and they're still trying to decide the best way to use it. Frankly, the admins are better at picking good headlines than we FARKers are. FARK will lose some of its FARK flavor if we get to pick the headlines on every submission.

Plus, restricting the number of headline contests makes it easier for people to vote for them. Not alotta TFers are going to go around reading every headline in 20 contests. But they might read all the headlines in a few.

/the comments in this thread will probably go bye-bye before this goes live

"A place of distinction". Clearly.

I spent 6+ hours in the ER having them sew the top of my ear back on yesterday. It was a really stupid accident.

I'm telling everyone I was in this bar fight and had a biker break a bottle across my head. It sounds tougher!

/am considering dying before going to the ER again

2005-02-21 09:51:39 AM
I have to drive through that area of town to get to work. Scary place.

Thake that, East St. Louis!

2005-02-21 10:00:13 AM
Anyone look at the link?

Check out the picture of the club billing itself as a classy joint with the dish plunked right on top.

Anyone wanna guess how many Teal Caddy's were parked in the lot?

New sign - "A place of dubious distinction"

Was that last night? I had it in my calendar for next Sunday.

Where were you?

Bottom of the pile, left hand side, toward the door. My leg was clearly visible.

does the chick in the profile remind anyone else of Dr. Franknfurter from rocky horror picture show?

Close 'em all. A standing military is a tool for tyrants.

Lmao.

I've been in rumbles with close to 40 people involved and I thought that was mass chaos. Three-hundred? That just doesn't seem even plausible. Maybe 300 people were in the bar, but I just can't believe 300 people were actually trading blows.

"A place of distinction"

Indeed.

No, no... I've been in bars like that before. No that there's anything wrong with that.

Not a chance. Used to live about 20 minutes south of Florissant. Florissant is a hole. You gotta go to East St. Louis for clubs like that. Also, Be prepared to get car jacked if you wind up in East STL.

Man I miss the Lou! I used to mow and smoke grass at the shops around there. Ahhhh. Those were the days. Colorado is a pussy state when it comes to good brawls, shootings etc. Better susnsets here though.

/This is not a Photoshop contest, of course, and therefore I cannot win despite the fact that there are no other entries because, as I stated, this is not a contest. That said, Cranberry Zero will still beat me somehow.

Quote:

" Police had to use mace to control the crowd, and say some people were trying to get to the officer's guns."

I find it hard to believe that in N. St. Louis, a very large percentage of people didn't have their own guns.

Wow, a fight in North St. Louis? What a shocker.

I have to go to a "special school district" for work in N. St. Louis in a month. I am not looking forward to it.

No self-respecting hick would be caught dead in North St. Louis.

2005-02-21 10:47:14 AM
last time i drove through North STL, i thought i was going to die. they don't take kindly to my types around there... i grew up in East STL and i think i got my bike stolen about once a month. anyway, STL is a hole. when i went back there after i got out of the military. it only took me a week or two to realize it sucked a lot more than i remembered, so i packed up and moved to San Antonio.

Thank you!! That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture last night. As a result, I kept singing Rocky Horror songs all night.

I think its a chick...possibly...

No self-respecting hick would be caught dead in North St. Louis.

Make that "If a hick were caught in North St. Louis, he would be dead."

The farther north you go in St. Louis, the more, uh, dangerous it gets. Back about 100 years ago when I was going to high school in St. Louis, we played a school called Sumner. They had a cheer that went

We are Sumner
Sumner High
White man beat us
White man die

Jennings is farther north than that.

(If there are going to be many more St. Louis stories, I think we should have a contest to design a "St. Louis" tag.)

I think you can sue for that now a days....

lets do the time warp again!!

...and then they all went home to their doublewides.

stickandmove: Thake that, East St. Louis!

I was gonna say... If that's the North STL clubs, they just have mass murder in East STL every weekend.

/Drove through East STL once. Never again. Not even armed. Which I was the first time.
//Not as bad as Detroit
///But worse than West Memphis, AR (barely)

it would have bullet holes in it, and have a brown streak down the right hand side of it..

vartian: No "hick" would make it out of North St Louis alive.

Besides, they're usually far too racist to go there in the first place.

We are Sumner
Sumner High
White man beat us
White man die

Back 150 years ago when I was in high school, it was

Sumner, Sumner Senior High
White boy play, white boy die
Big black hands, big black feet
Sumner Sumner can't be beat.

2005-02-21 11:34:30 AM
Back even farther (when it was a slave state).

Sumner Football, our playing lacks
White boys play, cause we have no blacks

/I keed, really I do.

2005-02-21 11:37:58 AM
Hehe. Back 151 years ago it was...

Pork chops pork chops greasy greasy
We beat white boys easy easy
We're from Kinloch, Kinloch High
Black man live, white man die.

For the record re: my previous entry, tinction: n. act of dyeing. tinctorial, a. pertaining to tinction or colours. tinctumutation, n. change of colour.

==============================================

yeah... miklm007 is right. in East and North STL there isn't a single white person.... because they've all been murdered.

i've been shot at for being white in ESTL twice and once on the north side.

I was across the river...wondering what the hell I was still doing in the Bi-State area.
