I heart the Mazda 6 and 3... two damn good looking cars.

Too their credit, the Mazda3s and 6s do look like decent little cars... haven't had a chance to drive one though.

I would have to disagree with you on that one mattloaf. Mazda does build great cars, but Toyota, IMHO, builds more reliable cars. My grandma has a Camry with over 200,000 miles on it, and it still runs fine. I also own a toyota, so i might be biased... but oh well..

2005-02-21 12:17:56 PM
Drove a Mazda 6 as a rental, and was pretty impressed with it. Some guts, and it handled well, considering I drove it like a rental. :)

Toyotas = the garbage.

Mazda, OTOH... my 20 year old RX-7 still going strong with only 178k on it. (Yes, original engine) Friend of mine has over 250k on his.

Maxda6 and Mazda3 = garbage. Soulless transportation appliances, just like Toyotas.

I drive a 95 Mazda 626 cronos, which was passed onto me after my dad purchased a titanium coloured RX8. My God. He has the sexiest car in Edmonton (aside from the other RX8's). A rotary engine, and suicide doors!

I agree, I love Nissan's as well. We have a 2000 Ex Terra as well, it's the best of the SUV's. I like all their vehicles except the Armada.

True, though my 1992 Protg (which I owned late 2000 through last month) never once left me stranded on the side of the road. Just had minor, persistent, unfixable problems like squealy belts.

If you want a real car, go German.

Sure, they last forever, but they cost you along the way.

Preferably diesel.

this discussion about quality cars stops here. MERCEDES BENZ. All others cannot come close. enough said, end of discussion.

Oh, here comes the penis waving about cars.
For god's sake, my farking '72 pinto survived over 269,000 miles (that's when the odometer gave out). And that included me finding out that Pinto's float and my brother that their air cleaners catch fire on the exhausr when not properly tightened...

Mister Peejay - nice! - I'm at about 160k on my FC. Engine could be doing better, but it gets me to work just fine every day.

While i agree toyotas are quite reliable you arn't saying much. My pontiac sunfire has 234,000 on it and runs just fine too, and NO it's not in kms.

I challenge this...

There's a subway advertisement in seoul that consists of pictures on the wall inside the actual train tunnel, that when passed at high-speed animate in the same fashion as the first experiements in animation.

Based on the speed of the train and the length of the animations.. that's gotta be longer than this.

One of the most beautiful cars ever is a Mazda. It's just too bad that it ate apex seals for breakfast, though.

My Mazda is pretty darn nice too.

How ridiculous is this marketing scheme really? I mean, we're talking about it on Fark - I'd say it worked perfectly.

2005-02-21 01:31:19 PM
I dunno...

I was in Boston in December and in one of the T's tunnels there's an ad...what an ad!...on the wall of the tunnel. I bet it's at least 1/4 mile...maybe 1/2 mile long. It's a MOVIE. It's set up so it's best viewed at the speed the train usually travels through the tunnel, I'm guessing that to be about 35MPH. It lasted about 30 seconds. Amazing. It was like watching TV on the wall of the tunnel!

Mazda 6 is good with the 6-cylinder. Excellent off the line. With the 4 it's sadly lacking in HP and torque. I have ridden in, but not driven, the 3s. They seem more solid than the old Protege, but overall not highly impressive. Comparatively, Mazdas are not the best-made imports. Then again, what do I know?

1991 Ford F150--340,000km.

1981 GM Extended Box Pedophile Van (You know, sliding door, no side windows)-- 300,000km.

Both were mine, both were beautiful. I don't entirely think the make of a car, (when you talk about the big automakers and their mid-priced ranges), really matters all that much when it comes to longevity and durability. I took care of my vehicles. They took care of me.

/Until the van started guzzling 4 litres of oil a week, that is. Then I shot her.

My father owns an '89 Mazda B2200 pickup. Shiat-tiest vehicle ever. Only 130K miles and it's crapping out horribly. Now he's gonna buy a Toyota Tacoma. So there.

Does this give anyone else visions of Farenheit 451?

2005-02-21 04:08:48 PM
We just bought a Mazda 6. It's a good overall compromise. It's got plenty of room inside, the hatch gives you good storage like a wagon while still looking like a sedan, the V-6 has good power while still getting decent mileage, etc. Handles very well. Got the automatic, though (wife's car).
