Wow. So do we boycott linking to the globe or what? You'd think those bastards would appreciate the traffic.

As soon as "straight" media knows something...it's dead.

Like white people using "bling, bling" ... now ONLY white people use "bling, bling".

And if an article mentions pornography and Drew Curtis that means EVERYONE, and i mean EVERYONE, will be drawn to here. Hmmmm, I wonder what google would find with search words "pornography Drew Curtis"

Results 1 - 10 of about 307,000 for pornography drew curtis. (0.20 seconds)

Wow.

Now I wonder Pornography and Boston Globe.

Results 1 - 10 of about 284,000 for pornography boston globe. (0.26 seconds)

Hmmm.. Drew WINS!!!

In other news, the Boston Globe is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Times.

Who have no trouble whatsoever publishing shiite that isn't true.

Lies are fine. Boobies are not.

You guys are doing this again? It worked so well yesterday.

(Yes I know it has always been mentioned in the rules)

PsychoLaurie

After all, Friends University in Wichita, Kan., used to be "Friends University of Central Kansas" until someone realized that the acronym was probably not going to work on sweatshirts.

A "nondenominational" Christian university, nonetheless. (The Friends are Quackers, oops, I mean Quakers.)

Boston Gardens is the way to go.

2005-02-21 10:34:41 AM
Being from Boston I felt I needed to send them a letter to the editor.

I basically said just about what everyone else here is saying. Gave them the link to the CNN transcript (which is from the day before their article was written), and said please be more careful when you do your research. (And something about Boston Garden being offensive. oooh!)

If I hear anything I'll be sure to post it.

2005-02-21 10:35:12 AM
Am I the only one that couldn't stop giggling at the fact that the 2nd article was about Corey Feldman speaking at a forum on farm-animal rights? That has got to be a joke!

As far as I'm concerned Fark's about getting together a wide cross section of people together with a wide range of tastes (including..shock horror...'boobies').

Get over it, BG...pricks.

My letter to the editor:

Dear Editor,

In regards to an article ("Name Goes Here") on your website:
http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2005/02/19/fleeting_fame_for_a_pri ce_chelsea_makes_the_rounds/

I would like to express my concern that the article, by Carol Beggy & Mark Shanahan, contains many lies and is very misleading.
If the aforementioned journalists would have done any type of investigation into the matter which they wrote so passionately (and incorrectly) about, they would have realized that Drew Curtis was even on nationalized television last week (CNN to be exact) declaring that he has chosen to name the arena "Boston Garden". Very tasteless indeed.

However, if your 'journalists' would have properly done their job, they would have realized that the actual name was very classy. Perhaps they should write the truth instead of jumping to conclusions and reporting inaccurate 'facts' to the public. Furthermore, although I have no ties to Fark.com or its owners/administrators, I would like to state that I don't appreciate any reporter writing with such an obvious personal bias against the topic at hand. There is a big difference between writing passionately about something, and writing in a way which would control the reader's opinion. Reporting on a story is one thing, this creative writing article I am referring to is another entirely.

I do however have no issues with your collective decision to avoid posting the website URL. That is your right.
Although you do realize that in order for your journalists to get some of the facts for the article, they did obviously spend time at the site, correct?

There is a class at a local college here that perhaps the writer(s) of this article should attend. It teaches the difference between informational and persuasive writing.

Thank you for your time

The acronym, while crude, is not criminal.

2005-02-21 11:02:48 AM
I look forward to readers of the Globe scratching their heads in confusion and trying to figure out what G.A.R.D.E.N. could possibly be an acronym for.

I see the problem. The Glob's classists say Drew is from Kentucky. Not Lexington, KY, but "Kentucky." How odd.

RE: Fleeting fame for a price; Chelsea makes the rounds

While the statement "After his first proposed name was rejected by the FleetCenter, Curtis invited his site's visitors to suggest alternatives, and the winner is an acronym too tasteless to reprint here." is factually correct, and the winner of said contest was the acronym UFIA, its use here is misleading. The article neglects to point out that Drew Curtis chose the THIRD PLACE winner ... "Boston Garden" to rename the Fleet center for a day. CNN had no trouble ferreting out this fact as can be seen here: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0502/18/lad.02.html

The Globe needs to hold a seminar to remind its reporters the differencte between factual reporting and pursuasive writing.

As for "The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography." That's a bit sensationalist ... don't you think. While Fark.com does occasionally post links to NUDITY (which is patently different from pornography), the links are alway prominently labeled as such and can be easily avoided by a reader not interested in such content. You could have simply omitted the name of the site without the pornography statment, which again I find sensationalist, and a little bit defamatory.

2005-02-21 11:17:25 AM
While I won't post any email addy's, I do encourage you all to send the writers of the misinformative article a flood of emails advising them of the inaccruacies in their article, as well as telling them how stupid they are for calling "Boston Garden" a tasteless acronym.

2005-02-21 11:25:05 AM
Well all righty. I sent e-mail to the two writers of this news as well as the editor.

I'll pretty much do anything to avoid doing actual work.

2005-02-21 11:29:02 AM
I have sent a letter to the editor w/CNN link. Maybe jounalist will start doing some research before rabbling on about something they obviously know very little about.
(hahaha)

By the way how would they have heard about UFIA with out coming to this site. HYPOCRITES.

Latinate structure is generally favoured in English usage, rendering the termination "-ise". American usage favours Grecian termination "-ize". It would be incorrect for me to use American bastardisations of English words, since I am English.

The new Fleet Center anthem.

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to get a U-F-I-A.
It's fun to get a U-F-I-A.

They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

It's fun to get a U-F-I-A.
It's fun to get a U-F-I-A.

2005-02-21 11:59:10 AM
I'm disappointed Drew didn't go with UltraFark International Arena for the night. I guess people have some kind of weird hangup with that because it has the word "Fark" in it and it's a site that links to pornographic images.

2005-02-21 12:04:20 PM
Does anyone really want a bunch of Bostonians on Fark anyway?

2005-02-21 12:29:21 PM
Nyoka: 3 accounts, can you imagine what they would be dealing with?

3 emails?

2005-02-21 12:33:43 PM
The times in my life when I've had personal, inside information on something that was also reported on by the media, the media got it at least 50% wrong each time.
Is anyone elses experience any different? I doubt it. The "journalists" at that newspaper are lazy??! wow.

2005-02-21 12:39:31 PM
I miss signing on for one day and Fark turns into a porn site AND starts posting trannies in the personals?
What's up with that?

2005-02-21 12:40:21 PM
Well... I just got a response back for one of my e-mails:

thanks.

Mark Shanahan

That's it.

So I wrote back said, "You're welcome. Now fix it rather than send back sarcastic one-word e-mails. If you don't care about the product you produce, then quit your job and go flip burgers instead of report 'news'".

2005-02-21 12:44:22 PM
Woops, I copied & pasted the submitted email verbatim to the Globe. Sorry!

Don't think the mods care about my personal info as much, (though some, probably), as the info of the Globe and Globe Staff, for what it's worth though.

Anyways, thanx for your feedback people, it's good to see people freaking out as usual.

Bowel Gravy is pretty nasty.

This so-called "personal info" policy is BULLshiat.

I, for one, propose renaming the center the "Carol Beggy And Mark Shanahan Can Eat My Sweatcaked Arsehole Center".

the fark is like the small community of mud-gatherers in monty python's "Holy Grail" while the globe is easily valhalla. don't knock the globe you F'n clowns.

Fark the Globe. Boston move's to the Herald!

Anything that lies and pretends it's facts is going to get knocked.

Stop defending something so clearly full of shiat.

How about naming it the "Clueless Consumer Wallet-Emptying Center"?

MisterTweak: Naming after totalfark is boring.

I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

2005-02-21 01:54:53 PM
Should we have called it, "The Tastelessly Unmentionable Arena"?

2005-02-21 02:37:15 PM
In other news, The Globe recently found a Puritan from the 1500s frozen in ice, revived him, and put him to work writing the high quality articles that you and I have come to love so much.

2005-02-21 02:41:48 PM
If you want to cite a specific example of Google hosting porn links, in Google hosted pages, here it is:

Google sayz free porn here!

the text is NSFW.

And those are hard-core links, not like the tame boobie links we see here.

2005-02-21 02:41:58 PM
I had no idea what UFIA stood for.
Then I had a dream.
Instead of begging to be spoon fed, I put my hands to work on a non-masterbatorial activity that only took 45 seconds.
And now I R smarter.
