The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography.

Where? Where?

What a bunch of prissy assholes.

Anyway, I though Drew was going with the Boston Garden?

2005-02-20 06:25:38 PM
Yeah, what happend to Boston Garden?

2005-02-20 06:26:28 PM
That is the best review I have ever read. It's funny to watch someone get so uptight about something.

Cosmic_Music: What a bunch of prissy assholes.

well said. f*ck them.

(The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography.)

Uhhhhh... right. Fark is a huge porn site.

2005-02-20 06:27:56 PM
*golf clap*
I'm dissapointed in the Globe.

2005-02-20 06:29:27 PM
Two things:

1. Google links to more pornography than any other site on the web. Do they not do articles about google?

2. Even though UFIA Center won, Drew has said he's not going with that, and will be nameing it the Boston Garden. So the one basic fact int he article isn't even correct.

Hmmm, I like those points, think I'll be send an e-mail to the Globe.

2005-02-20 06:29:49 PM
and the winner is an acronym too tasteless to reprint here

Sounds like someone needs a UFIA to me.

When did he say that? No Abe Vigoda Memorial Center?

Since newspapers have been greatly outstripped by television and the Internet in terms of being a valuable source of information, we at The Globe are forced to resort to elitism to make ourselves seem relevant.

2005-02-20 06:33:52 PM
...where will FleetCenter execs draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable? We'll find out Feb. 28, when a certain website takes over the arena.

(The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography.)

Curtis invited his site's visitors to suggest alternatives, and the winner is an acronym too tasteless to reprint here.

Wow, that's the pissy-ist newspaper I've ever read. Besides, didn't BostonCenter win?

2005-02-20 06:34:12 PM
...but send us fake pictures of soldiers raping people, we'll publish those for you right away

2005-02-20 06:35:21 PM
Wow, who pissed in their cornflakes?

2005-02-20 06:37:32 PM
What an entirely accurate and non-biased report! The Globe ROCKS!

2005-02-20 06:38:36 PM
The Globe recognizes the harbinger of it's impending irrelevance. Good for them! It's about time they recognized something.

2005-02-20 06:39:30 PM
frankmanhog: So the one basic fact int he article isn't even correct.

I am shocked -- shocked! -- that such a thing could happen. Just goes to show than when a news outlet/reporter decides they don't like something, "journalistic integrity" goes out the window. I'm jsut surprised they didn't get in a dig a bloggers too.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if their coy "we won't print it" drives just as many people to Fark as if they had been truthful. "Links to pornography," you say?!

2005-02-20 06:39:46 PM
Best. Article. Evar.

2005-02-20 06:41:06 PM
so which Globe writer is going to fess up and let us know he reads fark? is he TF or just some liter....farkers wanna know!

2005-02-20 06:43:17 PM
It's because of well-informed articles like this that I don't go on the Internet anymore for any reason ever.

2005-02-20 06:44:56 PM
NAME GOES HERE Thursday night, it was the JoeyColinAbbyCenter, named for the children of Celtics season ticket holder Daniel Braese. Tonight, Sudbury salon owner Philip Patzleiner bid more than $3,000 for the right to call the FleetCenter the InvidiaSalon.comCenter. So far, so tame, right? ''As long as it's not an X-rated name, we're trying to work with people so they can have some fun," said FleetCenter spokesman Jim Delaney. But as they continue to sell single-day naming rights on eBay, where will FleetCenter execs draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable? We'll find out Feb. 28, when a certain website takes over the arena. The site -- a popular compendium of offbeat news stories and photos -- won the naming rights with a bid of $2,500. ''My point was to do something ridiculous and to donate to charity," said the website's founder, Drew Curtis, who lives in Kentucky. (The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography.) After his first proposed name was rejected by the FleetCenter, Curtis invited his site's visitors to suggest alternatives, and the winner is an acronym too tasteless to reprint here.

That is kind of funny.

I wonder who made these editorial decisions not to even publish the name of the site.

If it was me I would have gone one further and not even published the site operater's name.

They really do a number on this "Drew Curtis" though, whoever he is. Not only is he offensive and does he operate a website that contains links to pornography--I mean, links! That is almost to a degree in some way like actually hosting pornography--but he is the type of person who would donate to charity. For shame.

Seriously, assuming that they can work google and type in Drew Curtis

Boston Globe = asshats

2005-02-20 06:46:35 PM
Not to mention, didn't the globe post pictures of the Abu Ghraib scandal? Didn't they cover the Paris Hilton sex video? Don't they report murders every friggin day-- but they won't link to Fark?

What a bunch of weeners.

2005-02-20 06:48:25 PM
what would make my day is if the Globe had already ran the article from which UFIA originated. Was it an AP article by any chance?

2005-02-20 06:48:37 PM

Seems it would take and unsolicited jack hammer to part them cheeks...

2005-02-20 06:49:12 PM
Man, this story just gets better every day.

2005-02-20 06:50:44 PM
"The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography."

And I'll bet they even censor Dear Abby if any of her readers make any reference to anything sexual.

Maybe the headline should read, "Bostonians are guided by their newspaper to search the Web for Fark, looking for new porn for their Priests to enjoy."

2005-02-20 06:51:50 PM
The greenlighting of this article further supports my theory: Admins love UFIA references.

2005-02-20 06:52:00 PM
Open questions to Farkers:
How do you personally pronounce UFIA
Option 1: U-F-I-A
or
Option 2: you-fee-uh
or
Something else?

2005-02-20 06:52:10 PM
BAH!

F*ck 'em!

Drew....why did you tell them what UFIA stands for?!

2005-02-20 06:52:17 PM
Greenlight! No surprise there.

If you're reading this, Beggy & Shanahan, I hope you get the message, loud and clear.

2005-02-20 06:52:48 PM
krelborne: Admins love UFIA references.

UFIBG.

"Hey! Way to publish absolutely no factual information in your recent article entitled "Fleeting fame for a price; Chelsea makes the rounds".

Drew Curtis has already said he is going to rename it the "Boston Garden" for the day, even though the "UFIA Arena" won the vote. As for not posting Fark.com (which is not a pornography site), why do you have no problem linking to Yahoo!? They link to more pornography than almost any other site on the internet.

Your un-factual, hypocritical journalsm is greatly appreciated!"

Thanks

2005-02-20 06:55:20 PM
VictoryCabal: How do you personally pronounce UFIA

it's simply U-F-I-A

2005-02-20 06:55:43 PM
tarrant84: When did he say that? No Abe Vigoda Memorial Center?

Nope.

"CURTIS: I ended up going with actually the third place contest submission, which was Boston Garden. For people who aren't from the Boston area, that's the name of the center before they called it the Fleet Center when they sold the naming rights. And it was a fairly controversial decision by the company. And there are still a lot of people that would wish it go back to that."

Journalistic integrity is dead.

2005-02-20 06:57:31 PM

2005-02-20 06:57:50 PM
That is some high quality journalism there.

These farks spend their time thinking up "clever" and "fun" ways to write articles about Brad Pitt being seen at a farking tittie bar and how someone almost related to a celebrity did something.

I am surprised that these two news giants could get away from keeping tabs on pseudo-celebrities and watching E! long enough to do the exhaustive research that obviously went into this article.

VictoryCabal: Option 2: you-fee-uh

(The Globe isn't publishing the name of the site because it contains links to pornography.)

Well, I'll say it. Are ya ready for it? Are ya? Ok, here goes, well, maybe in amoment, but ok, its :FARK.COM

2005-02-20 07:02:15 PM
frankmanhog: tarrant84: When did he say that? No Abe Vigoda Memorial Center?

Nope.

Hmmm. Thanks, that was actually very interesting. I have to say, "Yankee Stadium" would have been funny as hell, but I think Drew is awesome for doing the whole "Boston Garden" thing.

And I think a lot of people will appreciate it. Being from Philadelphia, if I ever got to rename "The Linc", I'd probably call it "The Vet".

2005-02-20 07:04:40 PM
Meh...

They're just jealous that we can see boobies.

/it's not like Fark needs the Globe's greenlight anyway

2005-02-20 07:11:52 PM
So has anyone suggested changing the name to "The Boston Globe Sucks Arena" yet?

2005-02-20 07:23:04 PM
this place is all American Goodness!
Boobies and Beer! (and a few weeners)
I can't think of anything more american.
yet, is loved the world over.
kinda like blue jeans.

2005-02-20 07:24:56 PM
Oh yeah I forgot,
Joke 'em if they
can't take a Fark! (no filter)

2005-02-20 07:26:13 PM
Didn't this paper already report the now rather famous Unsolicited Digital Anal Insertion story from footballers down under? Maybe it is time for some journalists to start asking why. Perhaps they fear getting a finger in their puckers.

2005-02-20 07:31:09 PM
Perhaps they're jealous of the publicity their major competitor (the Herald) is getting over losing that libel lawsuit and have decided that libel is a winning marketing strategy.

1) Print story with incorrect information/quotes.
2) Lawsuitarity ensues.
3) Get free publicity for your paper.
4) Profit?

2005-02-20 07:40:56 PM
How about naming it the "Clueless Consumer Wallet-Emptying Center"?

2005-02-20 07:47:06 PM
I'd call it the Pen Is Mightier Center.

2005-02-20 07:51:57 PM
The Boston Globe is a fishwrap and has been one for as long as I've been able to read. But I've never known it to be so prudish.

I owe authors Carol Beggy and Mark Shanahan one punch in the stomach.

2005-02-20 07:55:04 PM
It needs to be repeated:
F*CK THE GLOBE!

I don't even have cable and I knew Drew was going with the Boston Garden.
