2002-03-15 10:02:18 AM
Did anyone else read that as "Radioactive semen"?

You know, taking place in the South and all...

LF: no.

Great, now we're going to have children with webbed feet and duck bills being born. Huh? It was in Tennessee? Oh, nevermind, happens all the time.

Pickering says a state Health Department radiological health
team will assess the level of danger from the wreck.

he said "assess"

2002-03-15 10:04:02 AM
As if inbreeding in the state doesn't cause enough birth defects alone... sheesh.

"Tennessee Emergency Management Agency spokesman Kurt Pickering
says officials haven't determined whether the cargo is leaking, but
accidents are treated as though there is a leak until authorities are sure."

...sorry bout the nomination thing too, dude

Now you have to turn on the light when nature calls late at night.

2002-03-15 10:10:54 AM
Wait until dark. If the wreckage glows, it is serious

2002-03-15 10:11:10 AM
My thoughts exactly, Gelatinous. I wonder how many so-called "dirty bombs" we have being transported around the country at any given time.

2002-03-15 10:16:48 AM
and they want to transport all the nations radioactive crap across states to Nevada's "new" dump..... get used to it guys, it'll happen again. "Accidents" were brought up to congress about transporting this crap, they obviously didn't care.

2002-03-15 10:17:17 AM
Isn't this headline a typo? I thought you were only posting Kentucky stories.

2002-03-15 10:17:34 AM

2002-03-15 10:19:10 AM
Radioactive semi?

We should stick to deisel.

2002-03-15 10:19:59 AM
"Officials tell News 2 the semi truck was carrying two possibly three types of radioactive material."

Is it just me or is there something missing from this sentence? Maybe a conjunction or a comma is not where it should be?

2002-03-15 10:20:26 AM
Freddiemiles1: The article doesn't say anything about a nuclear power plant. Odds are the "radioactive cargo" is medical waste, such as X-ray materials, cobalt-60, etc.

2002-03-15 10:20:44 AM
Hmm... I wanna move to Farkistan now...

2002-03-15 10:22:57 AM
A tractor trailer hauling some forms of radioactive material has over turned on Interstate 65 in Maury County.
It was probably hauling some sort of fossil fuel too, nothing like getting the facts.

2002-03-15 10:23:51 AM
I live in TN now.

Uh oh my hair is falling out and my TOOTH is glowing.

Which brings to mind the old joke:

Q: What has 100 legs and 2 teeth.

A: The front row at a Willie Nelson Concert

2002-03-15 10:24:42 AM
It's pronounced nuke-u-lar.

2002-03-15 10:25:47 AM
I have to Tennessee it to Tennebelieve it.

2002-03-15 10:26:22 AM
Kinda looks like some serious Media Hype, wish they wouldn't start a scare until more facts are known. EVEN SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS A CASE OF COLEMAN LANTERN MANTLES WILL HAVE THE ISO NUCLEAR SYMBOL ON IT. If moron reporters would just ask the proper questions, these placards are quite informative as to the level and contents (just for this type of emergency response). They really fark people when they flash this kind of piecemeal info. Some local probably saw a placard at a distance and told a reporter. There are a lot of hazmat DOT placards that would scare the fark out most Emergency Response personnel, and they don't need to be nuclear. Wait till a Honda Insight or Toyota Prius catches fire somewhere - Anyone know what a Class D fire is? Ever see metallic sodium or magnesium burn?

Duck River Bridge? Save the Ducks!

2002-03-15 10:33:04 AM
Even so ... I bet it would take more than a truck overturn to cause one of those containers to leak. I'm just guessing.

And the media induced hysteria marches on.
