That's actually a real military tactic. Drop a conductive material onto a power station to shut it down for a while without actually doing serious damage. It's a one in a million that a single balloon happened to land in just the right place to short a big ass capacitor. Those things really stink when they fry too.

"It looks like someone didn't hold onto their Valentine's gift tightly enough."

Miller said the balloon, trailing a wet string...

Just where was that balloon being held?!?

Funny that we can be brought to our knees for an hour by a $1 balloon. I wonder if the person who accidentally let it go will be called a "terrorist."

haha The same thing happened at work a few days ago. Although some of our equipment did get fried.

I lost power cause of this. I had to reset all the clocks. Damn balloon.

I lived in Indiana, and the power went out every time a squirrel broke wind, so I'm not surprised that a balloon shut down almost all of Grape Road.

I think this is grounds to cancel Valentine's Day next year. And the next 10 following years.

I just think it is shocking that something meant to spark romance would conduct this type of behavior. I would think it would have put up some resistance to this plan.

Anyone remember the Cheers episode where (I think) Fraiser is ranting against those balloons and he says someone will cause the power to go out by letting it hit the power lines. Norm, Cliff and the guys grab the balloon and rush outside.

/It's a guy thing.

This sort of thing happens pretty often, actually. A couple weeks ago we had an outage down here in South Texas - apparently a bunch of "It's a Boy!" balloons got caught in some 69kV lines. Faultilarity insued. No balloon survivors.

Must add to the tagline... In other news, 2100 new babies predicted in 9 months.
