I'm surprised that there was no mention of the regularity of the emission bursts.

This inner region is probably the most intense and hazardous environment in the solar system except for the surface of the sun.

Um...what about the interior of the sun?

i don't believe it. It's not in the Bible.

Doesn't the term "object" imply matter/mass? A magnetic field has no mass, and wouldn't the radiation for the most part be gamma/UV/etc.? Not alpha/beta, which are, in theory matter...

That's not a "Violent, radiation-filled magnetic bubble," WonderJew had some beans last night.

"It's the extreme of the extreme"
dammn that must be really big

Santa Clause isn't in the Bible either.

shiat if that thing is so big why aren't we all walking circles around Jupiter... ow wait, Jupiter is just another biatch of the sun like earth. They can stick that magnetic field where the sun dont shine. I suggest Uranus.

In a related story, Rosie O'Donnell has come out of the closet.

I'm not in the Bible, are you?

No, but I was promised a cameo in the sequel!

i dont beleive it. its not on TV. Speaking of TV's, i have an old one that seems to match the description of Jupiter. Violent, radiation-filled magnet.

lol that's great Warren.

Hey BOFH, what do you do in Peoria? I lived/worked in that area for a while (went to college at Eureka).

I did tech support in morton and Peoria while I was there; there's a slight chance I might know you. Except that I don't thikn I know anyone named ben.

Yeah right.... Jupiters field may be LARGER than the Sun, but if we get to count Jupiters radiation/magnetic field, then I am going to count the Sun's corona and its constant stream of blasted off particles at LEAST to a distance bigger than Jupiters field.

Sorry all. I ate at Taco Hell yesterday. My bad!

Largest object in the solar sytem? They obviously haven't seen my mother-in-law. And, amn, is she ugly. She went to a bauty parlor the other day, and it 3 hours...just for an estimate

sidi.....I'm no expert but the question of mass came up when I was trying to figure out how light could be bent by interveing galaxies as it traveled thru space and yet still travel at the speed of light where mass becomes infinite. Light affected by gravity=must have mass. How could it have mass traveling at the speed of light? (no such thing as infinite mass) Anyway, I read that as m and e are on opposite sides of the equation, light "carried" its' mass in the form of energy. I assume the same holds true for magnetic fields.

I was here long before the Bible and I'll be here long after

One would think the sun is the biggest object in the solar system.

What about the Oort cloud? Huh? What about the g0ddamn fvcking Oort cloud?

"But the vagaries of Jupiter's magnetosphere have remained a mystery. "

Jupiter has Mysterious Vagiaries, wow, I bet its the most popular planet with the boy planets

Geddysciple:

I believe the surface is much hotter than the interior. I could be way off here.

Rush rocks.
