Hey mods, is advertising in a Fark Forum allowed?

If so, I'd like to post my web address.

If not, then you may need to speak with nvroutofthismaze

Appreciating american furniture is like appreciating russian sports cars. It's been done better elsewhere with better wood, better artisans and with greater taste.

Like the man said, use a coaster.

NineInchNader: So I suppose having sex on it is out of the question?

Are you kidding? If I paid that much for a piece of furniture, that's the ONLY place I'm having sex. And eating, and doing work, and pretty much everything else you could possibly do on a table. You sure as hell better get your money's worth out of it.

2005-02-14 06:41:54 PM
I'd be living under it...

2005-02-14 06:44:24 PM
I could see it know...Some loser is cleaning out his garage..."Ma? how much should I mark this old table for?" "$20 son I don't know who would want that thing anyway" Some Sotherby's employee headed home from their kids soccer game see's it and pays $17 after some haggling. And the rest is history

that is funny Assclown, I was speaking to an amazing woodworker (heh heh heh) at an antiques show, and he said that his trashy family has done just that with his stuff - takes some handmade cabinet worth thousands and puts it out at a garage sale for 50 bucks or so. He seemed resigned to it.

2005-02-14 06:53:42 PM
Why is that unlikely? Is there doubt he bought it?

2005-02-14 06:57:00 PM
Shoulda gone to Ikea, dumbass...

2005-02-14 07:08:00 PM
Oh man what a chump. He got taken.

I paid $75 (delivered) for our dinning room table at a scratch and dent store - and it seats 8.

Dear Albert,
Change your name to Ball. That would be very, very funny.

7.5 million for the table, and then another 900k in fees? Yeesh!

2005-02-14 07:43:09 PM

And I thought I was a little batty spending a couple thousand on a pinball table!

At least I can play with it!

2005-02-14 07:52:07 PM
What...gems just found on the ground can be worth millions but a unique and beautiful table can't?

...a table made in some miraculous moment of quasi-perfection by human hands? We can find more diamonds. These art classics have justifiable prices.

I always wondered who were the people that buy stuff that are always quoted on Antiques Roadshow.

I didn't submit this one, but it still would have been a better headline.

Isn't this sort of stuff is what causes the poorer people to rise up and start chopping the heads off of the rich?
