Um, the ref file is still the old 041-02-02-2002 which is from early February. Nothing new to see here, move along please.

Ad-aware is a farkin' godsend.

2002-03-14 06:45:10 PM
Ad-Aware IS a godsend. So is ZoneAlarm. Ad-Aware found a new file in my cookies. (admonitor.com)

The update found a registry key named "Alexa" on both of my towers. Notebook to be scanned shortly. I love installing this program on a clients machine and seeing the looks on their faces when they see the very first run of the program. None of them ever know how sextracker got on to their system! LOL

Gururich: Isn't Alexa the company behind the WayBack machine? I think their TOS say that they can collect and send info about your browsing habits to other sites. That's why I didn't download it..

New .sig file found like 20 extra spyware h0x instances. Wonder how many it missed. Also, it is best to scan everything all at once.

Actually lavasoft has an autoupdater. Every time you install some wonderful "free" software and decide to run adaware, run the updater first. No need to be on the lookout for updates from fark or wherever. Very handy.

MrCharlie: I don't know about the Wayback Machine, and I too pass on any software that wants to phone home.

2002-03-14 07:38:26 PM
I love AdAware. Between AdAware and the free virus scan at www.antivirus.com, my computers run clean day in day out.

2002-03-14 07:39:46 PM
...and this update found some more porn-cookies and yet another cydoor DLL on my system...

2002-03-14 08:00:42 PM
Found 2 more on my machine.

I gotta give props to WebWasher too. Damn those pop-ups!

Nada, nothing.

Of course,it helps that I don't use IE for my browser

2002-03-14 08:10:10 PM
I run a scan about once a week, the last scan showed my drivers were clean, after the update found 6 little bugs that I didn't know I had, 3 were cydoor 2 unknown and 1 alexa, have no idea where that one came from.

2002-03-14 08:14:57 PM
Just installed Ad-aware, only 1 spyware component. Don't know what the big deal is here...

Course I should mention that this windows installation is all of 5 days old, so that might have something to do with it :)

And to Breakaway995: This ain't be no UBB. Take those square brackets and Cram It Up Your Ass (win prizes that fit in your rectal cavity!)

SilentObserver IE 6 installs something that AdAware reports as Alexa. As to whether it is or not, I don't know

2002-03-14 08:26:48 PM
yo, yo, Enas, I am in the Haus!

2002-03-14 08:26:58 PM

Alexa registry entries oh my!

2002-03-14 10:00:36 PM
Oh, OK. My curiosity was aroused by the early posts in this thread, so I thought I'd just try it. I didn't know there was a place to test stuff.

2002-03-14 10:37:32 PM
Anyone know what this "Alexa" is from? Never heard of it before.

2002-03-14 10:37:41 PM
MFDB2: You use WebWasher? And it still works? Strange, mine suddenly stopped working, it no longer filtered out most pop-ups. Proxomitron works, but it just isn't the same.

2002-03-14 11:24:50 PM
Chop Chop, eh?

Kinda like this?

2002-03-15 12:58:21 AM
Alexa is sneaky. It loaded itself into my puter a few months ago... and added crap to my browser that i didn't event want.

Ad-aware, pop-up stopper, and Regclean...i run them at least once a week. Keeps my puter all shiny.
