I'm a conservative and I think this is not what we should be doing.. BOTH parties should be trying to move more to the center. Stuff like this isnt helping.

2005-02-11 02:07:05 PM
Money well spent. I'm glad at least one group is trying to raise the level of political discourse in this country.

2005-02-11 02:08:45 PM
Awesome. Maybe they'll learn.

Straight from Rove101: Don't just win, make them know they lost.

Heh heh. Be patient, folks. Give them plenty of rope.

2005-02-11 02:14:11 PM
I think the tag would've been more appropriate

2005-02-11 02:14:25 PM
Don't be surprised if it gets torn down or if the producers of the Oscars show have it covered up for the night.

Sorry, fresh out. It was all bought up by the DNC last year...

if it was anyone but Hollywood I would say 'not nice'

but those egodicks deserve whatever kick in the box they get.

But I would say, remember this the next time someone on the left accuses someone on the right of trying to suppress free speech simply because they're critical of what's being said.

blue staters voted the way they did because their guy was "not bush". lame reason, but at least it's related to politics and the candidates and their positions (or lack of a position, in the case of Kerry...since "not bush" isn't a position as much as it is the absence of one)

red staters, according to the GOP logic that puts up signs like this, voted the way they did because they disagreed with the opinions of a bunch of actors? doesn't give the middle american red state voters much credit for having minds of their own, does it?

2005-02-11 02:25:15 PM
its all right, those red state rural voters probably make up the majority of the money poured into hollywood anyway.

2005-02-11 02:26:06 PM
Indeed, DIA. The Dems are always slow to learn... but learn they eventually do. There are all those Rockefeller Republicans out there looking for a party, and I'm betting the Dems notice them before the current incarnation of the GOP does.

Doubtful. Those people probably thought Finding Nemo was too racy because Ellen Degeneres was in it and you know, she's "one of them".

I hate society. Blue and red alike.

It's a block and half away from the Kodak Theater, so it won't really be in anyone's camera shot -- the red carpet area is now an isolated corridor -- unless they specifically send a crew over to take it. But where it is, pretty much guarantees all the limos arriving will pass right by it.

What does this statement mean? What is a Rockefeller Republican, and how would the Democrats notice them? I'm just confused.

everyone's a hypocrite!

This really should have had the "silly" or "stupid" tag. Nonetheless, it's typical Republican grandstanding. Somehow I don't see a liberal group doing the same thing outside, say, Haliburton HQ had Kerry won.

/first day as TF

So I guess it's not only the Left that likes to validate the opinions of vapid, ego-centric celebrities.

Flarn: I am neither Dem nor Repub but man... talk about sore winners.

Opposed to all those rallies where said Hollywood types were bashing Bush and threatening to move (in more than one instance) should he prevail. This is tame in comparison to what said Hollywood types where throwing out during the campaign.

You gotta be kidding me. Liberal groups do this kinda shiat all the time.

Most of the people in this thread just see it as cool because they agree with the points made by these groups. Before you respond, search back and be fair when you recall all the anti-Bush hatred that we have had for the past 3 years.

Pale_Green_Pants_With_Nobody_Inside_Them: Liberal groups do this kinda shiat all the time.

Really? Show me a billboard example.

"Using a billboard, thanking Hollywood for helping re-elect George Bush is somewhat in fun, but also delivers a serious message," said Dave Bossie, president of Citizens United. "That is, every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

I suppose they should put a billboard on Charles St. in NYC saying "4 More Years! Thank you gays" with pictures of famous homesexual activists. Afterall, their wanting to get married MUST have been the opposing action to get W in the Whitehouse.

// Yay for the Asinine tag

I think both sides were throwing out a lot of unreasonable crap during the campaign. Just sayin'.

Actors really do need to STFU. Red and blue alike.

political bashing before an election is very different from bashing after a candidate has won.

'na na na na boo boo' is a conservative mantra?

funny

but, as we see from ward churchill and larry summers and the noose around the soldier's uniform, free speech is often dumb

As Kazama said, things'll come around. They always do. Next time we get a competent, progressive government in power, they may deign not run the neo-con thugs out of town mob-style. I can assure you though, no mercy, and no quarter, will be given by me.

2005-02-11 03:05:03 PM
Everyone feels so bad for Dubya and all the "Bush Bashing" going on but the Righties sure haven't done a thing to try and ease the political tension in this country.

One would assume since the GOP is in control that they would be the "bigger man" and offer an olive branch across the aisle. Instead they're pulling a Randy Moss in the endzone. Classy.

2005-02-11 03:05:28 PM
Next time we get a competent, progressive government in power,

progressives running the US? It will all be moot at that point because it will only be a year or two until the sun goes red giant and kills everybody

lovelaura: I can assure you though, no mercy, and no quarter, will be given by me.

And that's the exact same attitude of the people that put up this billboard.

Pot meet kettle.

It's amusing to me how smug some conservatives are that Bush won the election, as if it validates their whole existence.

Enjoy this period, no doubt the peak of your entire lives; your smirking and posturing, though it clearly bothers some, merely makes you look immature to the vast majority of people of any political opinion. For every sore loser there's a sore winner.

2005-02-11 03:25:14 PM
Perhaps the party should change it's mascot from an elephant to a couple of concentric circles, signifying the anuses they've become.

2005-02-11 03:25:30 PM
on the one hand, i find this entirely amusing, because i think that hollywood did skew the vote in the dirrection other than what was intended.

on the other hand, this only further radicalizes (word?) both sides.

/conflicted.

2005-02-11 03:33:21 PM
Yes, Citizens United, every action has a reaction.
Wait until 2006/2008. America will show you their reaction.

Sorry... Karma is an unproven, self-fulfilling concept.

2005-02-11 03:43:02 PM
sure it's proven. the world keeps spinning, and the same shiat keeps happening.

2005-02-11 03:46:35 PM
Hollywood may have been all about ousting Bush, but if those actors are so influential as both sides apparently believe, how come their mission wasn't accomplished?

I don't know if Hollywood had a negative effect on the Democrats' campaign. If anything, the Democrats' campaign had a negative effect on the Democrats' campaign. They couldn't turn over any swing voters because they made fun of Christian beliefs "a.k.a. if you vote based on your beliefs you are a bigot, so vote for us because that's OK." They relied on the new generation of voters (myself included) -- which, even with record turnout this election, didn't have strong numbers.

I don't agree with some of the Bush administration tactics, but it was the most logical of two decisions for me, and whenever I hear people like Hollywood (or anyone) group me in with the rest of the "pro-Bush" majority and call my beliefs dumb and bigoted, it's insulting to my intelligence and that's why "the other side" is dissed by conservatives.

2005-02-11 04:18:34 PM
Awwww come on its funny. Thats all. Funny haha. Cant we just enjoy something silly and stupid like this without bashing on either side.
