'dumbass' tag would definately have been more suitable

2002-03-14 09:04:26 AM
I was sent an email about this the other day. Its thick. I didn't sign, fwiw.

2002-03-14 09:06:03 AM
More than 5,000 people have signed a petition on the internet and, on Tuesday, there was a small demonstration outside the Irish parliament.

We all know how successful and meaningful those online petetions are... I recently signed one regarding the word "bookkeeper", and why it wasn't two words.

Isn't there more than a small demonstration every day of the week in Ireland?

2002-03-14 09:13:39 AM
that's not a demonstration, that's a ceili.

2002-03-14 09:21:47 AM
This is just embarrassing.

2002-03-14 09:21:49 AM
mind you, the freak up in the OPW or civic offices who came up with this idea, is now revelling in his moment of fame, I think this article should be removed and never discussed again.

2002-03-14 09:21:52 AM
Joejoe hmmm, to many irish people is not good!

Its a good idea Cormee, otherwise we will all be up to 6am every day to watch England lose

:)

2002-03-14 09:26:46 AM
I would sign this petition with pleasure. Its going to be horrible getting up at 6 watching a match (sober) and then going into work.

You have to realise just what a big thing football is for most of the population of the UK and Ireland.

Quite a few offices have said they'll make allowances during the month and allow people to come in late and work late or perhaps even give holidays on the days of Ireland games

2002-03-14 09:27:39 AM
Cormee

You must of prayed to the wrong person. Cos the devil told me to submit this .. and so I did.

2002-03-14 09:27:49 AM
And yes I know it would never work in practice - but hey made me laugh

Harmonia

Your just jealous England has a football team.

2002-03-14 09:29:42 AM
Fans of U.S. soccer - both of us - raised a stink about the possibility that the games wouldn't even get carried live here, but it looks like it will be okay now.

2002-03-14 09:31:50 AM
I like the English football team Ransom, like your cricketers they never let me down by winning anything.

2002-03-14 09:35:31 AM
I'm wondering if Japan has soccer hooligans.

2002-03-14 09:35:52 AM
Cormee: You wouldn't happen to be in TCD would u?

2002-03-14 09:35:53 AM
OK let me get this straight .....

First Kentucky is where West Virginia was

West Virginia is now in Greenland.

And know this
what is this world coming to

2002-03-14 09:35:57 AM
Harmonia

And where is your cricket team? Great rugby team you have. Go back to curling!!

2002-03-14 09:37:42 AM
Actually I hope they make a decision on this Japanese time zone thing soon cos I might be over there the first week of the world cup.

2002-03-14 09:38:10 AM
Ireland's group for the World Cup aint half bad. We should be able to qualify without any hassle from anybody cept maybe Germany.

2002-03-14 09:39:02 AM
CommieDave: nope, and i hope youre asking me this because you know a cormac in TCD rather than because of my comments!

2002-03-14 09:41:38 AM
It is great to see Englands B team qualify also .. shame about our C (Scotland), D (Wales) and E (NI) teams though.

2002-03-14 09:45:00 AM
hmmm...maybe it is not just their "American-ness" that makes Irish/Americans the dumbest people on Earth.

2002-03-14 09:49:55 AM
Ransom, fancy a flutter on England making it to third in their group?

Argentina
Sweden
Nigeria
England

Would be my prediction.

2002-03-14 10:01:22 AM
That's a pretty farking big island to move all the way to Japan

2002-03-14 10:03:33 AM
Cormee: Yeah I know somebody in TCD who you sound a bit like. But looking at ur profile u are definitely not him ;) Long live NUI Maynooth.

They say they want to watch the games "at the end of the day". Ok, let's think about this, if the games are at 7:30am on their normal time, it's not going to be the "end of the day" even if the times are changed. It would be the end of the night, everyone in ireland would be working during the night and sleeping during the day. The time is just the time, they can't change what time of day it will be. It's pointless.

2002-03-14 10:22:05 AM
Ireland must be Utopia for their biggest concern to be shifting time.

Stupid Farkers. If they had only seen the Time Machine, they'd realize that it's not good to mess with time because in the end the Morlocks will eat you up.

What does it matter. it's not like anybody in ireland has a job.

clever boy.

2002-03-14 10:26:52 AM
The English players have already made their preparations for the second round of the World Cup: they've all booked their plane tickets home and bought new TVs to watch the games....

[....ducks for cover....]

2002-03-14 10:27:02 AM
43%: youre the ones going through a recession not us

2002-03-14 10:31:05 AM
Maybe they can get someone at NBC to just tape delay everything and then break up events to give human interest stories.

2002-03-14 10:59:43 AM
'You have to realise just what a big thing football is for most of the population of the UK and Ireland. '

Or at least that part of the population with an IQ less'n 100.

One reason I don't like the Irish FOOTBALL team:

Roy Keane

No words can describe how much I dislike this animal.

2002-03-14 11:33:31 AM
Poor clown

Man Utd do your team over then?

2002-03-14 11:38:30 AM
I never like Roy Keane was well .. but having Blanc made up for it!! :)

Whatever happened with the idea about opening the pubs up at 6am so everyone could watch the games in a pub.

2002-03-14 11:40:45 AM
Harmonia,

Nope, I just don't like him. I think he's over-rated and acts like a thug when playing. The rest of the Irish team is alright, though.

2002-03-14 11:41:18 AM
"small demonstration"? It must have been totally miserable: my office is almost at the other end of the street, and if they had been doing anything more than talking in hushed whispers, I would have heard the lager louts.

2002-03-14 11:48:00 AM
Hlx

In the UK the pub were supposed to be open for games at 6am but the courts have banned this .. all except for Northampton .. which is a bit bizarre. All pubs in Northampton can open up at 6am for games. Hence I will be rellocating to my birth town for a month. Long live the Cobblers.

Ransom / Hlx
I heard that the law won't let pubs open purely to watch the football, but apparently you can get round it by staging a quiz (something to do with a sociallly interactive activity being beneficial to the community or some bollox). Therefore Sky Sports are holding a quiz at half time to make it legal.
But don't take my word for it, the bloke down the pub who told me had had quite a few.

2002-03-14 12:11:03 PM
I think it's a brilliant idea. They should do it

2002-03-14 12:11:04 PM
The Irish need to think *outside* of the box. Why not campaign to have Japan change their time to Irish time? Do we Yanks need to think of everything for those mucks?

2002-03-14 12:20:13 PM
I just found a small white pill in my pocket. Have no idea what it is! But I ate it!

As a Swede, I hope that Sweden and England goes through in that group. :)

2002-03-14 12:47:03 PM
Yeah nothing like seeing the sun rise at midnight and set at 10 in the morning.
