hmm put me down for 2 weeks

Wow, you're quite the optimist. ;-) I'd bet there is some fringe cell getting ready to send a suicide bomber as we speak. Can't have a rival faction win the peace if that means an end of your funds/power.

2005-02-07 12:50:45 PM
'Till something happens, somewhere, under some circumstance.

So stay sharp!

2005-02-07 12:50:46 PM
Until someone tells Hamas...

2005-02-07 12:50:52 PM
An official cease-fire only applies to official armed forces, right? How many non-military "soldiers" does Palestine have? Oh wait, that's like 99% of them... Cease-fire my ass...

2005-02-07 12:50:54 PM
It will last as long as this thread has fewer than 100 posts

2005-02-07 12:51:08 PM
"The Israeli and Palestinian leaders will declare a formal end to more than four years of fighting"

much more than four years

2005-02-07 12:51:15 PM
hoping forever, but realistically... Wednesday

2005-02-07 12:51:25 PM
thirteen days, 2/20/05

2005-02-07 12:52:10 PM
Might want to recheck that headline as to my knowledge there is no "state" of Palestine (yet). I'm also gonna guess that some asshat is going to blow himself up in a bus or something within the next couple of weeks, which would cause Israel to respond. This way the Palestinians can blame Israel for the broken cease fire.

2005-02-07 12:52:18 PM
I got dibs on 3 weeks, 4 days

2005-02-07 12:52:29 PM
An 'Army of Allah's Temple Mount Brigade of the Army of Allah' spokesman denounced the truce as 'zionest deception' and will continue operations until 'all are matyred'.

2005-02-07 12:52:31 PM
Will last as long as the Palestinian terrorist groups want it to last. When they decide to start resuming attacks when they decide they are done with this whole "peace" thingy, the cease fire will be dead.

Abbas needs to disarm the militants. That is the only way that they won't be the true ones holding the cards to peace in the Middle East. And he has stated multiple times that he does not see himself forcefully disarming the groups, but rather trying to persuade them to disarm.

Good luck with that. There will be no peace until militants are disarmed.

2005-02-07 12:52:32 PM
I give it 17 days

2005-02-07 12:52:56 PM
What relaly matters is whether or not Hamas says they wll stop attacking. Does this new palestinian leader really have power over Hamas?

2005-02-07 12:53:03 PM
I don't care how long it lasts, I'm just happy both sides have declared an official desire for peace.

2005-02-07 12:53:07 PM
I think the real story of the day is the fact that Barbara Bush is the lovechild of George W. Bush and Condoleeza Rice.

That's why Rice, a woman who has never been married, accidentally referred to Bush as her husband. There was (or still is) something between them.

See, back in '82 or whatever, Bush got Condi pregnant; to hide the horrible truth from the public, Bush got Laura pregnant around the same time, and then they both had C-sections at the same time so that the daughters could be passed off as fraternal twins who look nothing like one another.

That's why Barbara's so smart and dark -- she got it from Condi. And that's why Jenna's so plump and stupid -- she got it from Laura.

Once the truth gets out, this will be bigger than Monica. Except when Bush lies about it under oath, he won't get impeached because it's his party in Congress.

2005-02-07 12:53:21 PM
I hope it's permanent. Alas, being a realist, I believe it will be over before tomorrow, when they formally declare it. Come on fellas, prove me wrong.

2005-02-07 12:53:28 PM
I'm putting 500 bucks on one week from today. Hell, they probably already started killing eachother again!

2005-02-07 12:53:45 PM

bravo. everyone involved is a better man than me (including condi ;)). bravo

2005-02-07 12:54:02 PM
I'll be impressed if it lasts more than 24 hours.

2005-02-07 12:54:10 PM
Anyone remember one scene in the (diabolically woeful) Flintstone movie a few years back when Fred (John Goodman) is sitting in his recliner reading a stone newspaper whose headline reads "Middle East Peace Close!"......

KaponoFor3 -

Will last as long as the israeli terrorist army groups want it to last. When they decide to start resuming attacks when they decide they are done with this whole "peace" thingy, the cease fire will be dead.

Sharon needs to disarm the settlers. That is the only way that they won't be the true ones holding the cards to peace in the Middle East. And he has stated multiple times that he does not see himself forcefully disarming the groups, but rather trying to persuade them to disarm.

Good luck with that. There will be no peace until militants are disarmed.

2005-02-07 12:54:16 PM
hooray!

2005-02-07 12:54:21 PM
5 days

2005-02-07 12:54:22 PM
Until someone starts firing again.

2005-02-07 12:54:31 PM
Considering Arafats current condition, I expect this to be a little better than those in the past.

2005-02-07 12:54:39 PM
It won't last long. Hamas just can't get through the day without a suicide bombing, just like I can't get through the day without coffee. Some habits are just hard to break.

2005-02-07 12:54:46 PM
1 week. Guaranteed.

2005-02-07 12:54:47 PM
put me down for a week

2005-02-07 12:55:12 PM
Well of course they stopped fighting, that have to work together in order to defend against the impending U.S. Invasion...

2005-02-07 12:55:16 PM
Dirka Dirka, Dirka Dirka Dirka Dirka
(All the time spent on this bomb belt, and nowhere to use it)

Dirka Dirka Dirka, Dirka Dirka?
(Road trip to IRAQ, Baby!!)

2005-02-07 12:55:32 PM
Put me down for 9 p.m. DST

2005-02-07 12:55:34 PM
Sunnavabiatch.

Perhaps, after all, the medicinal cannibis actually worked.

2005-02-07 12:55:42 PM

I'm definitely betting the under on this one. Especially if Donovan McNabb is somehow involved, then you can forget about it.

What's even worse, I heard the cease fire halftime show will be done by Art Garfunkle. They couldn't even get Paul Simon, motherfarkers. Like a Palestinian Bomber over troubled waters, indeed.
