most of the doctors who go there (look for american names) tend to be new, but reasonable doctors. the prices are so low because there is nothing like Malpractice insurance or medical licences. I would not go there for surgery, but if you need dental work, do it. My parents were down there vacationing and my mom broke her bridge work eating one night. The waiter at the resturant suggested a block of dentists that will be open in the morning around the corner. She said it was just like going to one back home in canada, but the music was different in the waiting room and only the doctors spoke english.

I was just about to say the same thing about dental work. My grandma went there to get all her crowns done, and they did a good job for a hell of a lot cheaper than in the US.

Tequila maks people do the strangest things.

/I proposed to a cop on a Tequila bender... at least it was a female cop though.

//Aquavit makes people do stranger things.

Tequila, is there anything it can't do?
2005-02-07 11:22:46 AM
my grandmothers pills:

US price: over $200.00 a month
Mexico: about 30 bucks

my little cousin buys 3 asthma inhalers.. 10 bucks total.. US price 15 each.

i bought my great aunt Amoxicillin(sp?) for 10 bucks for a 100.. in the US.. 10 bucks for 3.

a hospital in San Diego got in trouble for buying their drugs in mexico (when they said they bought them from US producers) and selling them at the regular rate.

same exact drugs u get in the US.. for WAAAAAAY less.

(half of my family lives within 5 minutes of the San Diego/Tijuane border)

I wish you guys coud see the pics from this story that were in the feed but that didn't get run. Botched surgeries, dirty, DIRTY facilities, and worse. I'm sure there are some perfectly fine facilities down there, but those weren't them. Yuck.

I hear you--my family's on the Texas border. My health insurance rates went up again this September (I work for the state), and the thought of buying Zyrtec across the river is very very tempting. But I'm too paranoid.

Did anyone see the "Insomniac" where Dave Attell bought Viagra and codiene on-camera from a Mexican pharmacy?

Okay - I feel bad for those whose dental work gets botched up, but plastic surgery people . . . haha!!! That's what they get for being so into their looks. No sympathy.

This is definitely NSFW...about 'procedures' available in Tijuana

They only problem is that some patients go under the anesthesia, and afterwards find themselves in a tub full of ice, and a surgical scar over their now missing kidney ...

... and ... when I woke up ... I was in a bathtub full of ice ... and there was this phone and this note ...

Dang, plastic surgery in Mexico is nuts. My ex girlfriends mom had a surgery in Mexico and it wasn't a good situation. When the mom first got home she said that the surgery was great and cheap, blah, blah, blah. A few days later she told my ex that when she was having the surgery she was scared shiatless. Apparentely the surgery took place in a total shiatbucket, the so called nurse and doctor were also brisk and cold towards her. The Doctor/dentist/Vetrinarian didn't really seem to care whether or not she was comfortable, scared or anything. The Docter did what had to be done, patched her up and sent her on her way.

/ex girlfriend was a dumb biatch as was the mom

For plastic surgery, I'd go to Thailand instead of Mexico.

If I needed life saving surgery of some sort and I had no medical insurance and the procedure would put me in debt $100,000 here or $5,000 there. Let's say the US success rate on the procedure is 90% and the Mexican success rate is 75%. Yeah, I'd probably gamble and go to Mexico.

I know a guy but part of his parole is that he can't do what he was doing... to flesh. Works on cars mostly, sometimes faces.

I'm wondering when the health insurance companies are going to catch on to outsourcing non-emergency surgery and dental work. Buying the patient a plane ticket to Mexico and paying to have the surgery done there will save them big bucks.

Folks, I hate to break it to you, but Plastic Surgery requires very little in the way of licensing or certification from the State of California. In other words, if you're tired of looking at peoples feet, buy a video tape, watch it, and become a plastic surgeon. A friends wife consults for a company that builds "Doc in a Box" (what they are actually called, I couldn't make this stuff up) You know, your corner discount boob job/lipo/botox clinic? And in those as well you have unsafe conditions, & untrained staff, (most of the "attendents" working there are doing it for even cheaper boob jobs/lipo etc.)

Oh and one other thing. There is a lot of data on plastic surgery, it's been going on for almost 30 years now. Here is a good one. Boob job? 45% greater chance of developing breast cancer. (Compairing to other family members, simular envorimental conditions.)

2005-02-07 03:30:36 PM
My coworker needed some dental surgery. It was going to cost about $2400 out of pocket. Found out she could get the same thing done in Italy for about $200. Bought plane tickets, took a week off, vacationed in Florence and got the surgery done for about $2200.

re: medications in Mexico

There was an article in Business Week a few years ago about the "plague of counterfit products" entering the marketplace, most (all?) of them from China.

The part that concerns this thread is that there's a growing trend towards counterfit medications. Someone in China finally realized that the consumer can't tell the difference between real medication and fake medication at the point of purchase. Look for them at a cheapo pharmacy near you. Canada's probably OK, but in Mexico, well...
