The years weren't so kind to her...

Hot as a 13 year old though. :)

2002-03-13 08:30:06 AM
I remember when that picture came out... Those eyes were mesmerizing... what a picture...

2002-03-13 08:31:03 AM
I'll admit it...I was in love with her.

Hey, I was 15! Need I say more?

2002-03-13 08:31:04 AM
She looks likes shes about 20 in the first picture. Man, those years must hard.

2002-03-13 08:32:28 AM
Yeah, I guess the years can't be too kind when you're living as a refugee in a third-world country suffering from war and famine. Also, there are no beauty products like Nivea or Oil of Olay.

2002-03-13 08:34:07 AM
My eyes are actually pretty close to that color. Just a little bit darker.

2002-03-13 08:36:51 AM
I remember that old picture too. Please tell me this new picture is actually her ugly, jealous sister.

Playboy could give her a little makeover, a little airbrushing. I'm sure she'd look better than some of the recent "celebrity" layouts they've done lately.

2002-03-13 08:42:13 AM
Holy crap! The Afghans age worse than the Brazilians...

2002-03-13 08:42:39 AM
Very interesting. I really like these where are they now stories.

2002-03-13 08:42:42 AM
haha.. b00bies in a burka.

2002-03-13 08:43:05 AM
What's interesting is even tho she looks much older now, the same inner quality comes through, which is what really makes her beautiful in the first place.

2002-03-13 08:43:09 AM
I tried to submit the MSNBC.com article. It has a lot more details about how the photographer tracked her down. Really cool. Sorry, no HTML:

2002-03-13 08:45:24 AM
These were some of the greatest eyes I've ever seen till this day...

2002-03-13 08:45:41 AM
MSNBC has a much better article:

MSNBC version

2002-03-13 08:52:26 AM
wow, I remember that pic also. Mesmerizing is right. Intriguing. what natural beauty. then she got married soon after? see what marriage does to you. Seriously, she hasnt aged well, and Im sure it the US's fault.

2002-03-13 08:56:17 AM
Please put the burkha back on...thanks

2002-03-13 08:59:20 AM
Wow, she used to be amazingly hot. :/

2002-03-13 09:02:41 AM
That poor girl. She's had it rough. The eyes are still there, and still amazing. I hope she stays safe. With everything going on, she seems like a target for some arsehole looking to make a statement.

2002-03-13 09:05:32 AM
The guy who tracked her down should have realized his mistake and told the boss he couldn't find her...

2002-03-13 09:05:42 AM
Great picture! I have that one. Those eyes! Wow......... This is pretty cool that they found her!

2002-03-13 09:08:05 AM
Lets see some of you live in some rat-infested stankhole all your life, with wars and death and all sorts of crazy midieval stuff going down. Hell, many of these people are living in conditions people thousands of years ago had to deal with... back in the days of 35 year life expectancies and all...

Are we talking about Afghanistan or Philly?

2002-03-13 09:13:43 AM
MAN I don't care!!

A Chinese girl with green eyes?

2002-03-13 09:23:04 AM
Look into those eyes and try to pathom what your feelings would be if you were 13, your parents had been killed in a bombraid and you've been forced to flee from your home to a place completely unknown to you. That picture move me something fierce.

You can still see that "thing" in the new picture that made the old one so mesmerizing, just weigh in her past and that she has given birth to four children between the pictures.

I truly hope us westerners will leave her alone, protecting her from more exploits.

2002-03-13 09:23:06 AM
Life's been tough on her.

Bug ... Chinese?

2002-03-13 09:25:29 AM
IT'S A MAN, BABY!!!

2002-03-13 09:31:04 AM
Just look at what you were touching yourself too....

Mungo,

you didn't get the movie reference, go back to eating yogurt.

2002-03-13 09:34:44 AM
ewwwww, she looks old and dirty now.

2002-03-13 09:42:07 AM
She totally cockblocked Osama at a party last year. Anyway, you don't cockblock Osama. So, she's lucky to be alive.

2002-03-13 09:45:19 AM
anyone else think that National Geographic gave up and photoshopped it? That pic on the right looks suspiciously like one of those computer-aged pictures they use of missing children.
Bah... anyway.

2002-03-13 09:48:52 AM
Help her trip to Mecca?
Hell, that cat owes most of his career to that photo. He (and NGM) should give her kilobucks at least.

2002-03-13 09:50:12 AM
Beautiful picture...amazing that they found her, or think that they did anyway. Hm.

2002-03-13 09:51:31 AM
"She said: 'I've never seen it before. But that's definitely me.' And she remembered it so vividly because it's the only day in her life her picture had ever been taken," says Matson.

I think that right there probably says more about this womans life than anything. So these two pictures we see here are the ONLY two pictures that exist of this woman. Fascinating.

I always was curious about what happned to this girl. I must say that I think that Photo is one of the greatest ever shot. Just imagine wandering through a refugee camp, and finding such beauty and fire in the midst of such pain and suffering.

OK, done with sappy ranting now. Going back to bed.

2002-03-13 09:53:59 AM
I sorta have to agree with Stinkhead, but there *are* small differences that lead me to believe that is not a "now" picture of her.
The face shape is different, the nose is different...
And no matter what someone goes through, (major accidents aside)there *are* some facial features that just don't change.

Course, I could be totally wrong. *shrug*
Just an observation.

2002-03-13 09:54:52 AM
yeah Mrnutz has a good point... lets send her royalties... why should nat'l geographic and the photographer get all the benefit of the photo... right?

2002-03-13 09:58:47 AM
Dont forget stripe that the picture was taken during the first stages of puberty.

2002-03-13 10:01:13 AM
She used to be so cute!

2002-03-13 10:09:24 AM
Stripe
That's what happens when you get married off at 13 and bear 4 girls in a culture that see women as less than dirt. Her husband probably beat her for 5 weeks after each girl was born (except the one that died.)

Bug: Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

Next time some eight-foot-tall, wild-eyed maniac taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall and asks you if you've paid your dues, well, you just do what ole Jack Burton always does at a time like that. You stare that sucker right back in the eye. "Have you paid your dues, Jack?" "Yes, sir, the check is in the mail."

Mattix, you rule. Big Trouble in Little China is the bomb.

Gotta love IMDB.com

Jack: Like I told my last wife, I said, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see, and besides... it's all in the reflexes."

Jack Burton: Would you just stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that.

Jack Burton: Ok, you people! Sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president.

Jack Burton: [Pointing to Chinese writing on elevator.] What does that say?
Wang: Hell of Boiling Oil.
Jack Burton: You're kidding.
Wang: Yeah, I am. It says Keep Out.

2002-03-13 10:22:04 AM
Wow. What a tough life she must have had so far.

Considering what she's been through, she's still quite pretty.

Man, I had a crush on her bad...

At least she's managed to keep her trim figure. Most American women are heffers by her age.
