Oh yeah, anyone got news on maybe another Trek series in the plots, or movie?

2005-02-02 07:55:18 PM
And this suprises people how?

Season 3 was good; the whole Xindi arc thing made me like the show again...otherwise, it was kida teh suxxorz. The actors were great, but alas, they got the shaft.

I'd hit it, long and prosper.

That's the other thing I don't get - what do people see in the ice queen appeal? Have you ever gone out with a girl like that? The novelty wears off before the end of the first date, you'll feel like you've wasted your time.

At least former trek ice queen Jeri Ryan had range as an actress, Jolene Blalock has one mode: monotone/boring.

/The woman who plays Hoshi is much sexier.

I have always wanted to see a series from the Romulan point of view.

2005-02-02 08:01:02 PM
Awww. That sucks! Not all the episodes were great but I liked seeing some of the post-TOS events come to pass. One of my proudest moments was recognizing the ship in the minefield as a Romulan from the TOS. I was hoping to see the Romulan war in a couple of seasons. And the andorians were suddenly cool.

2005-02-02 08:03:40 PM
Jolene Blaylock is the hottest of hot...

2005-02-02 08:04:28 PM
I am sorry to see it go, but far from surprised. Now that it's a done deal, perhaps Paramount will let the other shoe drop, and rub out the REST of the UPN lineup.

I hope the sci-fi writers have learned from the train wrecks of SW and ST, an realize that PREQUELING DOESN'T WORK.

/off to watch "Lost"

2005-02-02 08:05:17 PM
Well, I havent much liked "Enterprise" either. I think I could have gotten into if if it wasnt on SUNDAYS... at 6:00pm.. the lamest time-slot in the world. I could just never remember to watch it. I ended up really liking Voyager.. but DS9 was never very good.. they just sat in one place and didnt do much.. kinda boring.. but the lezbo's on that show were awesome.

So Fine. Want to touch the hiney..

OK Time it appears that NOW is the time for me to pitch my perfect idea for a new Star Trek Series.

Ahem.

"Captain Crusher."

2005-02-02 08:06:26 PM
The series really jumped the shark after this:
Sex Trek: The Next Penetration (1990)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0100582/combined
Jeanna Fine .... Ms. Hole from Youranus
Randy Spears .... Captain Jim Quirk
Mike Horner .... Mr. Sperm, First Officer
Joey Silvera .... Doctor Boner McJoy
Patricia Kennedy .... Lt. Uwhore
Peter North .... Cmd Cur Raff, Dingon Leader

T.T. Boy as Commander Will Dyker in Trek IV was just a stiff.

Brodan: FONT OF LIMITLESS POTENTIAL AND THEY BLOW IT!

Apparently, the font did not come with lower-case letters.

I blame the theme song.

Big_Bill_MacFilthy:

As if the shackles were released from us in our cultural
basement, and we can finally take from our mouths the shattered antique
underpants used as gags and wash old men's s***n out of our bum crevices.

Sheer genius, that.

Brodan: "Captain Crusher."

If we could translate fark hits into Nielsen ratings, we just might have a chance at this.

2005-02-02 08:08:00 PM
Star Trek = Old and busted
Battlestar Galactica = new hotness.

Although I will miss Jolene Blalock's catsuits...

2005-02-02 08:09:54 PM
So UPN is finally getting rid of the last couple of viewers who just happen to be white.

nice

I hope the next series isn't some lame Smallville-esque series about a young Captain Kirk.

SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!

The Star Trek producers might be reading! Don't give them any ideas!

2005-02-02 08:12:07 PM
Agreed, Berman and Braga's time war ideas were badly conceptualized and badly realized. It's ironic they will be doing the last espisode: I'd have their parking lot spaces reassigned before dawn.

Manny Coto was pulling it out of the death dive; had they given it one more season under his command, we would have had something quite good, I believe. A series really about the founding of the Federation would have had the potential to please old and new fans alike.

Jeff Coombs is an awesome actor, he really put his stamp on the Andorian Shran character. Any episode with him in it is worth archiving....

I think the best place to get a good trek fix after Enterprise will be doing episodes as radio plays/ books on tape over the internet, or perhaps as animation. Because it's never been about the special effects, it's about telling a good STORY. Something Manny understood.

Perhaps in the future, fen will take B&B episodes of Enterprise to conventions and play them with the sound off, doing MST3K type dialog replacements to make it actually entertaining.

/ meanwhile, enjoying Battlestar quite well.

2005-02-02 08:12:48 PM
Star Trek was all about Kirk running around the galaxy banging hot alien chicks in the middle of creeky old plots stolen from classic literature like Shakespeare or The Murders in the Rue Morgue. Sometimes the hot alien chicks croaked like the Indian girl or Joan Collins and he got to act sad while not being a baddie for running out but sometimes they were ordered to like the slave girl in the copy of Rome which turned into a Christian episode and he got his rocks off free. Sorry but the series never was more than that. It went off the rails with Piccard yakking and never recovered.

Big_Bill_MacFilthy

Mad props to you and everyone else who worked on Farscape. :)

2005-02-02 08:13:35 PM
I don't know about other areas, but the UPN where I live mostly runs homespun religious TV shows. "PUT YER HAND ON THE TV SCREEN!" kind of stuff. Full of phrases like "prayer cloth" and "love gift".

Except, like, at 3 in the morning when this loudmouthed ass is on there selling cheap katana swords.

I'm not sure if our UPN affiliate is really licensed. It may just be some guy driving around in a van.

2005-02-02 08:14:08 PM
It's as if millions of fanboys cried out in despair and were silenced by those who knew what Trek used to be like.

2005-02-02 08:14:34 PM
Finally!

This Show was a slap in the face to the whole Star trek series.

good idea gone horribly bad.

2005-02-02 08:15:30 PM
This is a real shame. This season has been totally rocking. Granted, the space-Nazi thing was kind of lame, but once that was over with to end the stupid Xindi arc we got into things they should've been doing since season one. Let's see, the Augments arc focused on genetically engineered super-humans like Khan. Then we had the Vulcan story arc where they overthrew the corrupt High Command and resurrected the seeds of the logical Vulcans we've all come to know and love from TOS and beyond. Then we got a transporter malfunction spawns a space ghost episode... ok that was kind of lame, but let's move on. After that we had Observer Effect which gave us a secret wink at a first contact with the Organians (the god-like race that in TOS would enforce a peace treaty between the Federation and the Klingons). Then to top it all off we have Romulans trying to start an interstellar war between the Andorians and the Tellarites to disrupt the founding of the Federation!!! This has been the best season by far.

Rick Berman = Old and Busted

Ron Moore = New Hotness

2005-02-02 08:19:39 PM
I will be sorry to see it go. It has got much better each season.

I guess I will be able to take UPN off of the sattelite after that. I think that was the only show that I watched.

I am really sick of the way that tv in general is getting though. The only things they worry about are the sweeps weeks. They play a couple of episodes and then it is back to the repeats. 24 and the shield are usually the only ones that don't pull that. That is ok though. With TV sucking so bad it gives me more time to do other useful things. THe yard and the garden are looking better all of the time. All I am asking is that PLEASE take that american idol crap off. Most of the people would get booed at a kareoke bar.

2005-02-02 08:19:58 PM
From the very first show, I simply couldn't stand 'Enterprise'. This series is supposedly a prequal to the original 'Star Trek', yet the design of the ship itself was more along the lines of TnG, or even beyond that. Completely ruined it for me.

2005-02-02 08:21:32 PM
it was a good concept but they RUINED it.

my idea, a limited run series, set parallel to the time of the original Star Trek, filmed in the style of the original series, even trying to copy the technical aspects, i.e. use models instead of CGI but not be a Star Fleet vessel.

Here is one potential storyline. The Iotans having been awakened from their mafia copying culture embark upon a capitalist industrial expansion that has other Federation planets agog at their burgening industrial might, eventully many Earth business relocate there for the cheap labor.

2005-02-02 08:21:33 PM
Snarfangel:
If the screenwriters wanted conflict, have them warp back to the Civil War, where brother fought against brother.

Too late...they already did it...on Voyager.

It still sucked.

2005-02-02 08:21:50 PM
Have to agree, good riddance. But if it finally spells the end of the Rick Berman era then it was worth it.

Enterprise started out pretty well, and by started out, I mean the first episode. It seemed to have a much grittier feel to it. Unfortunately, they threw that away pretty fast, returning to the standard annoying Federation SOP (despite the Federation not even existing yet). I never understood the appeal of that anyway. Why don't they just make a show called, The UN in Space, with Kofi Annan playing the enigmatic captain. I pretty much gave up on that show when they aired the episode with the race of people who were dying of a mystery plague. The premise was something like they were a pre-warp people who were dying. Yet their planet was populated by another race, that was developing. So the douchebag captain decides to condemn the entire race to extinction, because of evolution or some other nonsense. WTF? That doesn't even make any sense. You might as well argue that AIDs is just evolution in progress and we shouldn't bother trying to stop it.

Here it is, I found the episode:

Series: 'Enterprise'
Episode Title: 'Dear Doctor'
Episode Number: 113
Synopsis: "The crew encounters an alien race in desperate need of medical and scientific assistance. Phlox declines to assist them because of his ethical beliefs leaving Archer to decide whether to help them find their own solutions."

Seriously, what a load of crap, and the show just got more stupid from there.

On the other hand, I think the show officially had the hottest female cast (well the 2 women that were actually on the show) of the Star Trek series. Of course, who could forget the decontamination chamber either.

Though I think throwing the dog in there is going a bit too far. ;-)

2005-02-02 08:22:13 PM
What other old series should we attempt to bring back next...

2005-02-02 08:22:26 PM
" This has been the best season by far."

I agree, I started watching the show once every couple of weeks, because it sucked, then a couple weeks ago I turned it on, and the story was actually good. I, for one, think they should give it another chance.

2005-02-02 08:23:22 PM
yep, ST started nose diving about the end of the 6th season of TNG. there was a brief gasp of life with the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons of DS9, but they succeeded in screwing up that momentum in the last DS9 season and that terrible, awful series finale. i wont even get into Voyager. they should have cancelled that in 1995.

Enterprise has done some good stuff in recent months, but i'm sure B&B would have found a way to screw it up eventually. best to let it go now and send B&B packing.

2005-02-02 08:23:55 PM
fark you guys who say it sucked. it wasn't always great but they knew it and it got a lot better this past season. it's a shame they cancelled it once it was getting good.

on a related note, there are people trying to do something about it...

2005-02-02 08:24:38 PM
Wil what are your thoughts?

2005-02-02 08:25:55 PM
When I heard Scott Bakula was cast in the Captain's role on Enterprise, I asked, "How could that show possibly suck?". Then I remembered Necessary Roughness.

Allow me be be the only moran in this thread who liked Voyager better than any Star Trek offering (excluding TNG).

2005-02-02 08:26:36 PM
Did someone say Linda Park?

She's got a big forehead...Is that the new "sharp knee?"

2005-02-02 08:27:09 PM
Early VOY < Late VOY < TOS < ENT < Early DS9 < Early TNG < Late TNG < Late DS9

There, you have it. I'll come out and say that while Enterprise isn't great, it's better than boring-ass voyager and the original series (yes, I admit, I don't like the original series).

2005-02-02 08:28:00 PM

Best Star Trek episode of them all. They could have quit right there.

2005-02-02 08:30:00 PM
You know, Just Ignorant, that was my favorite DS9 episode. I thought it was pretty funny.

2005-02-02 08:30:42 PM
and I also liked Enterprise. However, I think I liked it because it became a comfortable old shoe. It wasn't particularly exciting or groundbreaking, but I gues it was just nice being there.
I was hoping they would do more with it than the usual "alien of the week" episodes.

Like X-Files, the mythology episodes were fine, but the good episodes were the 'inner office intrigue' ones.

Shame they didn't capitalize on what they COULD have done (and for the record, although Archer was more physical than Picard, he was still too cerebral)

2005-02-02 08:31:41 PM
Oh yeah, I heard that they were planning an episode showing why the Klingons of Enterprise look like the Klingons from Next Generation and beyond, but the Original Series Klingons look so much different.

It is hinted at in the DS9 episode where they go back to the "tribbles" episode in the original series -- rather than omitting the Klingons in the original series, or digitally replacing them with new Klingons, or completely ignoring the fact that they looked different, they make a comment about how strange the "Original Series" Klingons look. So, fans were supposedly going to get a long-awaited explanation. I hope it makes it in. Should be interesting... unless they screw it up, which they probably will.

2005-02-02 08:31:52 PM
(still patiently waiting for an official statement from Wil)

2005-02-02 08:32:41 PM
I guess I'm the only one who liked Enterprise. I mean sure, it wasn't as good as some of the other series, but it sure as hell was better than 99% of all the absolute SHIAT they put on TV these days. I mean think about it; what do you think they're going to replace it with? That's right, a GOD AWFUL reality show or something equally mind-rotting. Probably yet another American Idol rip-off (*shuddder*) with that oh-so-recognizable UPN "flair".

Or would you prefer yet another X-Men clone?

How about another "urban" (read: humiliatingly patronizing of black people) sit-com?

Or MORE reruns of that unbearable turd "King of Queens"?

So biatch all you want, TV just got that much worse. I just pray they replace it with something at least related; I need my Trek fix.

2005-02-02 08:43:22 PM
i dont care if it was shiat. it gave me something to do friday nights. : (

no offense but there is this thing called going out and interacting with real live humans!

2005-02-02 08:44:25 PM
I'm going to go against the general mood of Fark here. I enjoyed (almost) every episode of Enterprise, right from the beginning. Nevertheless, Trek needs a break for a few years. Oh, and more games.

Anyway, now that I have Galactica to tide me over, I think I'll be all right. Kickass series.

2005-02-02 08:45:38 PM
I wonder what percentage of people who watched this show downloaded it rather than tune into UPN.

2005-02-02 08:47:21 PM
Only good thing coming from this is that Berman and Braga will be looking for work. They took a good idea and didn't do squat with it, now they'll be paying for their gross incompetence with their jobs.

2005-02-02 08:48:26 PM
Uh, Enterprise wasn't that bad. It was leagues better than Voyager and that piece of crap got seven full seasons. This sucks.

2005-02-02 08:48:38 PM
Userfriendly.org
summed enterprise up rather nicely...
