were they parking the "normal people spots"?
2005-01-30 06:12:33 AM
Ayuh, it reads like a Stephen King story.
2005-01-30 09:56:48 AM
Gee, one would think that a Crip from Queens should have just been able to fade into the Maine backgound. Wonder what gave him away?
2005-01-30 10:14:41 AM
My guess is that part of the cause of this is the influx of people moving up here to get away from it all that has caused more of it. When I moved to Central Maine from Portland some 20 years ago you never heard anything of gangs. Now it's at my backdoor. Being the submitter and having used the Scary tag, this also should be labled Sad. Maybe even a little ironic.

Also let me say that if drugs are a crime than only criminals will have drugs. Make them all legal and let Darwin sort them out.

authorities in New York City paint a grim picture of gang expansion from the inner city into rural communities

I was recently mugged by some Amish thugs.

P'raps it was Snoop Dogg. I'm not sure if he's actually a crip or just sort of an honorary one.

Well, I live in a small town in central-ish Maine, and this thread is no joke. It's not just in Portland and Lewiston/Auburn.

For example (and it's uncouth but true): There are like 5 black people in my town (you don't have to be black to be in a gang, yada yada whatever). And you know who they are. You can keep track of it.

When you come home and see a group of 6 big black guys in basketball jackets walking across the bridge, you think, 'hmm...there are some new people in town...'. Then, two days later, when there is graffiti sprayed all over the buildings all over downtown...well, draw your own farking conclusions.

/can form the word 'blood' with his hands.

Hasn't really shown itself to be a problem in Bangor yet, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time... sad really.

Since when were there gangs in Maine???

These guys are probably from Maine.

They just can't get the hang of those gang signs.

On his way to Kennebunkport to hook up Dubya with his fix.
2005-01-30 05:38:08 PM

Also let me say that if drugs are a crime than only criminals will have drugs. Make them all legal and let Darwin sort them out.

I'd love to see the cat-fight between corporations making drugs and gangs. God that would be fun to watch.

Asian gangs Tiny Rascals and Born To Kill already are well-known to the authorities in Portland

[image from too old to be available]

/Did they have to form their own gang because the Little Rascals won't accept Asian members?
2005-01-30 05:45:44 PM
As a person born in Maine I would like to respectfully point out that we prefer "Mainiac" to "Mainer" and also that it's the best state in the US.

GIS for 'Maine Gang'

They should all be arrested for such antics!
2005-01-30 05:52:10 PM

Hasn't really shown itself to be a problem in Bangor yet, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time... sad really.

So, you might end up with 'Bangor gangbangers'?

/...and if the make pr0n films on the side, would they be 'Bangor gangbang gangbangers'?
//...and if they're also vampires: 'Fanged Bangor gangbang gangbangers'?
2005-01-30 05:52:30 PM
You know, there's a lot of grafitti here too, funny how I know the white people doing must be black people framing them, because by drawing conclusions, that's the only sensible reasoning I could get--even if I didn't witness any black people doing it, and I recognize the names on the graf and know it's associations with some of the local white kids, I know if there are black people in town, they are ruining the walls of my city.

End the war on drugs. Problem solved.

End the war on drugs. Problem solved.

Really!? Yeah it makes sense, if drugs were legal he wouldn't be a "suspect in a series of armed robberies, including a bank robbery and street robberies".
2005-01-30 06:06:23 PM
Europe has a lot of grafitti. And my mom says there's a lot of black people in Africa.
2005-01-30 06:10:34 PM
The gangs from Chicago and Milwaukee took over the town I grew up in years ago. Good rule of thumb, don't bug them and they won't bug you.

And I have met some really nice gang members, also. Just know not to piss them off.

'Bogan' is an derogatory Australian slang term for somebody who is perceived as being an unfashionable "lower-class" person, typically of British Isles ancestry and living in deprived urban areas.

The term originated in Melbourne, and equivalent terms are:

Westie in Sydney (referring to Western Suburbs), and also in Waitakere (in the west of Auckland, New Zealand)
Bevan in Brisbane.

(sometimes interchangeable with) Booner in Canberra.

Bogans are stereotypically considered to be young adults, older males who would otherwise be described as being "bogans" are sometimes known as yobbos.

Stereotypical "bogan style" involves wearing moccassins and ugg boots (especially outdoors) and flannelette shirts (or black jerseys and jeans in Waitakere) and prominent tattoos.

Bogans are often stereotyped as driving loud, obnoxious cars of American or Australian manufacture such as older model modified Holden Commodores or Ford Falcons.

Liquor consumption features prominently in the bogan lifestyle, including rum, bourbon, beer (especially Victoria Bitter) or any other strong cheap liquor.

Besides alchohol and tobacco, bogan culture is not asssociated with any particular drug, though marijuana use occasionally features in bogan popular culture such as the film Mallboy.

"Bogan rock" is an umbrella term for several artist and genres that commonly includes some elements of psychedelia, heavy metal, Big-Hair Rock, or nearly any Australian rock band from the 1970s and 1980s.

In 2000 a Bogan Rock Festival was held in rural Victoria to some critical and financial success, suggesting that the term's derogatory power is becoming eroded.

If the shoe fits.....

I'm sorry, I just can't be scared of a gang called "Tiny Rascals", no matter how bad they are.

My town is a seedy little place. We have prostitutes and a gang and only 23,000 people. Oh Maine, land of lobster and lawlessness.
