How does a buffet make THAT much money? Do they serve children?

That man is a God. People thought he was crazy when he didn't get in on the internet stocks. Pure genius.

2005-01-28 12:45:11 PM
Misspelled Buffett in the headline, and I was thinking Jimmy Buffett, not Warren Buffett.

2005-01-28 12:45:29 PM
I made enough money to buy Miami but I pissed it away so fast...

2005-01-28 12:45:54 PM
I guarantee that man will surpass Gate's wealth by the end of this decade... any bets?

2005-01-28 12:46:00 PM
Good for him...hopefully he paid the same 30% income tax on that as I did on my bonuses last year...oh wait...he probably didn't.

Don't worry wage-slaves, it'll trickle down to you guys eventually.

But not after I get my share hahahah.

Warren Buffet = Best Money Manager Ever. Really, seems like he has had more big paydays than any other big name. Even if you don't like reading biographies, his is worth reading.

Hell, I think it might even make a good movie, as long as it doesn't ever star DiCaprio.

He's cool and all, but you know who was my hero in high school? James Dean. The man could really make sausage.

Wow, thats 150 million dinners ready for 4:31.

2005-01-28 12:53:24 PM
EnormousJuan, probably not, since we have a progressive income tax. He probably will pay significantly more.

That is unless he shuffles it around into an offshore account or some semi-legal tax shelter or whatever those guys do.

2005-01-28 12:54:13 PM
Give the guy a break. He blew out his flip flop, stepped on a pop top. Then he cut open his heel and headed back home. Don't worry, there's booze in the blender.

/I'll stop now.

2005-01-28 12:54:34 PM
Warren is Jimmy's uncle. He's helped Jimmy parlay a lot of his record cash into a lot more cash.

He's also not a big fan of the current Administration's approach to economics.

Jimmy and Warren are cousins, and hang out together some.

BTW, Buffett's original investment of $600 mil is now worth almost $6 bil.

No way am I taking this bet. Bill Gates has invested in Berkshire Hathaway and is now one of its board directors. He knows Buffett is a genius at buying and running companies.

Bah, I think Warren is worth far more than Gates. Gates worth is on paper and if M$ tanks, he tanks; Warren Buffett has invested in a whole gamut of venues and always fares well.

/have some of same stocks as Mr Buffett. Cheeseburgers in paradise...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that his pool boy's wealth surpassed mine sometime in 1998.

if I were a rich man, deedle deedle do

Don't count his chickens before they hatch. I'm selling honing stones so people can now sharpen their "disposable" razors and SAVE!!!

That's not income, that's a capital gain. It's taxed at a much lower rate than income.

unowho13: You may be right, assuming he lives to the end of the decade. I own some Berkshire-Hathaway and this is always my concern -- how bad will the rush out be when he retires or dies? It's a pretty heady stock to buy these days.
That said, he's kind of banking on the crash of the dollar, which sucks. I guess if Soros can do it to the UK, Buffett can do it to us. At least the xenophobic can remind themselves that he was born here...

Damn, thats a lot of fried chicken and greens

"Margaritaville" is Key West, not Mexico. "A1A" which is the title of Buffet's first album, refers to the southernmost road in the US: US1 splits in two when it hits the island, and A1A goes south.

I was drinking at Louie's Back Yard when Buffet called in on the phone, wanting to know what was happening; he was somewhere south of San Francisco at the time.

Key West bars have a nice tradition: When they don't pay their taxes for a long time, the State guy comes round, rips their license off the wall and announces they can't sell booze any more, to which they reply: "Oh, yeah? Well, you didn't say we couldn't GIVE it away!"

That first happened at the Anchor Inn in 1969, and has happened several times since.

SOME good things about Key West, but still overpriced.

Misleading headline. Go directly to bannination. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not block Trogdor.

They could just be more efficient and order cheeseburgeritas.

Buffet is the man. He's no bullshiat, a huge philantropist, completely honest to shareholders, etc.

Today I made exactly 2.2680412371134020618556701030928e-7 of that total! GO ME!

I found a dime once !!

2005-01-28 01:07:23 PM
I worked in the same building as Buffet for a while. I ran into him once or twice.

All I can say is that he looks pretty "poor." Bad haircut - cheap suits. Oh well, I hear he isn't giving to charity yet because the money he makes while alive will keep growing and so he will give it all away once he dies. Pretty cool stuff - VERY selfless.

Headline seems to be a Jamaica Mistaica.

No, no, no. Not that Buffett....

Phoebe is the one that made all that money!

/oh wait, she's Phoebe Buffay

2005-01-28 01:15:12 PM
$776? That's nothing! Why, I once made...

...oh, $776,000,000. OK, ya got me - that's impressive.

2005-01-28 01:16:33 PM
God diggity damn! Good for him.

2005-01-28 01:20:03 PM
That's freakin' obscene. I mean it would be a little less obscene if it were mine but really, should one person be allowed to make that much money? Again, if it were mine then hell yes - but under these circumstances I'm pissed off about it. You know... if any body gives a crap.

2005-01-28 01:20:14 PM
wow they must have killer egg rolls

2005-01-28 01:20:17 PM
So...why do we have to KNOW this?

Are we supposed to say "YAY! GO CAPITALISM!!" or something?

I don't need to hear about some multi-multi-multi who's already got too much money MAKING MORE, goddamnit...

2005-01-28 01:20:19 PM
I thought the $775 million I made yesterday was impressive. Now I feel small.

2005-01-28 01:21:23 PM
So wait, putting money in the stock market can pay off?

I thought no one wanted to put any SS money in there, cause its so risky.

My goodness but you're a font of misinformation.

1. Buffett himself says Margaritaville is no particular place, but a state of mind.

2. A1A runs most of the length of Florida along the barrier islands parallel to Hwy 1, which runs along the coast.

3. "A1A" was Jimmy's FIFTH album, released in 1974.

2005-01-28 01:23:20 PM
woot woot, I'm glad it's capital gains, not payroll, because if he made that much by working, he would be soooooooooo screwed by the man.

2005-01-28 01:27:47 PM
Grizzlyjohnson, I hate to burst your bubble, but I was in Jimmy Buffet's bar Margaritaville just last Monday, in Key West...

2005-01-28 01:29:10 PM
Here's another uneccesarry thing: do a Yahoo! image search for Warren Buffett and you get a pic of Arnold Swartznegger posing naked. Yech.

I guess that's even more reason to use Google...
