The ghosts of the Holocaust victims stare aghast at Cheney's olive drab parka!

2005-01-28 04:37:44 PM
Wow, amazing how many people miss the point entirely.

Had this been a Joan Rivers -esque style rant, I'd be with you all saying "who cares?"

But it's not that he doesn't have the right name brand of shoe, it's that in about any Western culture, you wear black to a funeral. This event qualifies for the same protocol.

Maybe a wealthy man who represents professionals and politicians could take time to send a staffer to make sure that he'd have appropriate clothing for the weather AND occasion. He can't afford a black parka?

If Clinton wore anything but black to Reagan's funeral, the right would fume that it was disrespectful. Admit it.

When did farkers become a bunch of fashion fags?

2005-01-28 04:38:30 PM
re: 'What kind of fur is that, gerble? Probally a standard issue Haliburton coat.'

It's human hair.
Cheney had it made special just for this occassion.
Now you know the REAL reason he wore that coat.

Proposal to mods: Don't bother to link to a story for this sort of thing. Every day, just create a page that says "Daily Flame War Here," or "Variations on a Theme No. 757," and the left and right wingers can click on it and post attacks on each other in the same predictable ways.

Oh man. How incredibly awesome would it be for Dick and George to show up at a Halloween party as Bob and Doug McKenzie?

How's it goin, eh?

Take off, George! This is my beer!

Aww sure!

while i dislike the man intensely, i have to say this kind of article is pointless and infantile, and is a disservice to those of us who dislike him for serious political reasons, not because he chose to wear the wrong coat.

2005-01-28 04:40:42 PM
It's not a matter of being "PC", it's a matter of having class. I find it somewhat amazing how intense many people on the right are in defending a poorly chosen clothing decision by the VP, and how people on both sides are trying to turn this into a political issue when it's just a faux pax.

This has nothing to do with Iraq, this has nothing to do with PETA, this has nothing to do with oil or Bill Clinton or nuclear weapons. This is just about a man that came inapropriately attired for a very solemn ceremony.

This is an issue of being classy, respectful and professional. To make it anything else is ridiculous. To get incensed about this one way or another is just silly.

Of course they would have. The right wing nuts fumed that Clinton didn't wear a jacket and tie when working in the Oval Office. Yet, they seem to have no problem whatever with this. Amazing.

re: 'The Canadian Representative?'

Did we even send anyone? No one cares.
Our rep was probably wearing Bermuda shorts and a muscle shirt with his fat gut hanging out, snuck off during the ceremonies to get in a little ice fishing.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least it wasn't this outfit:

2005-01-28 04:46:25 PM
The fact that, under the circumstances, ANYONE GAVE A farkING shiat about what Cheney was wearing is a strong indicator of the growing failure of American society.

Why the fark would it matter what he's wearing, shouldn't it matter more that he was there. Seriously, you shallow-minded farkwits who seem to think that fashion is more important than action are retarded.

When I go into your business to fix something and you make a comment in passing about my style, guess what, you're gonna be fixing that problem yourself, becuase I'm not so poor in the cognative department to think that I need your money any more than I need your shallow, idiotic judgement.

Why is a "ski knit cap" innappropriate but those furry slav hats and fedoras are ok? Looking at that photo I see a blue shirt, an orange one, a grey cap, and one guy looks like he is wearing a knit ski cap too. Oh and most people dont seem to be wearing ties.....

Yah, that would've been even funnier if he had worn big mukluk ski boots and snowmobile mittens to go with that ridiculous parka. I mean, why even bother with the pretense that he gives the square root of a shiate about anything or anyone in the world but himself?

I definately hate the Bush admin, but anyone who biatches about how Cheney is dressed is a good example of what is wrong with the left.

Jumping on any little thing just dilutes the real issues and makes you look like a bunch of 'partisan hacks'.

If there was less focus on retarded crap like this maybe we could focus more on corporate power and corruption, or any other issue that is far more important.

he's a representative of our country..dressing like a slack to a somber occasion is embarrassing for us all. It just goes to show how removed from reality these people are...

regardless of party affiliation, this is ridiculous and inexcusable. Imagine if the Jacques Chirac showed up at the Pearl Harbor or 9-11 memorial in a northface jacket.

Oh, yeah, they were "LUCKY" that the United States sent a representative to a commemoration of the liberation of farking AUSCHWITZ? How do you explain that? Is it because Bush's grandfather helped FUND the Holocaust?

oops, should have previewed.

2005-01-28 05:02:18 PM
here is some food for thought:

* maybe the reporter... a fashion reporter... had to write an article for her employer and decided to write about a current event from a fashion persective?

* clearly the veep has no fashion sense. so what? i'm sure he has other flaws too. it doesn't send a farking message to the world that we dont care about Jews, death camps, or whatever.

* have you ever gone somewhere and once you got there realized, "i wish i would have worn something different?"

BearToy

homophobe shiatstains like Priapulid can just paint Fark red with hatespeach as long as they're hating gays.

A little testy today? I can understand you may be more sensitive to it than most people in here, but to jump on someone by saying "fashion fags" is gay bashing hatespeach doesn't help. Maybe Priapulid needs some sensitivity training, but not a time out.

BTW...fag also means tedious/drudgery, which definately applies to this thread.

I think this is one of those 'I'll put down the gun after he does' sort of situations. To think that only the left jumps in on unimportant BS is pretty one-sided.

If the Bush girls were there, you know they'd be wearing something middriff-bearing. Probably with all faux-vintage with a slogan like "I farked your boyfriend" done with a Bedazzler.

There's an awfull lot of dead raccoons or whatever on the heads of some of those leaders.I'm sure those critters are keeping Chirac and his friends ears nice and toasty.Complain about that.

At least Dick doesn't need a dead animal to keep him warm except for those nice boots he's wearing.

No fault with that tho, as it probably came from a corn-fed, patriotic angus somewhere out west, by God.

Dear Vice-President,
It's called respect.
Asshat.

Too bad 51% of this country doesn't have enough class to realize it either.

"But this is the new United States. We have no respect to maintain with the rest of the world. Our second in command can attend an event of this calibur dressed as a hobo in order to send Old Europe, and the rest of the world as well, a big American "Fukc You". All of our other actions in the global community reveal us to be arrogant, indiferent, disrespectful pigs so the Vice President is just doing his best to make sure our message is consistent and clear."

You got that right. Fark the rest of the world. We are #1, and don't you forget it. All the rest are pretenders and poseurs staffed by sycophants, liberals, socialists, and French fags. I don't get it. We hear so much from this administration about "decency" and "moral values" and "offensive this" and "offensive that' and yet this ... DICKWAD ... turns up for a memorial service in completely inappropriate attire, and looks like a farking bumpkin, and we're supposed to give him a pass? He might as well have turned up in full Bozo the Clown regalia.

This is about respect, and decency, and having the nous, the wherewithal, to blend in with the assembled dignitaries and observe the protocoi. This was a somber, reflective occasion - you wear BLACK, and if you must put something on your head, it should be subtle, dignified, understated. This man is supposed to be something very close to a head of state.

This was inexcusable.
