Peter: Don't worry about it. I've got it all figured out. We'll move to England. The worst they have there is drive by arguments.
Englishman: I say Jeremy, isn't that Reginald B. Stifworth, the young chap who's been touting the merits of a united European commonwealth?
Jeremy: Why yes, I believe it is.
Englishman: Oh, let's get him. Oh Reginald? I disagree! {vrooom}
2002-03-11 12:17:17 PM
Is this any surprise, it would seem that a simple jacket with a hood would be enough to outsmart a camera.
2002-03-11 12:17:37 PM
Englandarians are stupid!
2002-03-11 12:18:17 PM
I think in Britain the car has the right of way right? Thats cool.

and this is for the people working at the airports, that got layed off, i take mah shades off

2002-03-11 12:18:33 PM
Yeah, Big Brother watching your every move with cameras is a sure-fire bet to stop crime.

Yeah, right.
2002-03-11 12:18:50 PM
Yes. Over here we try to maintain a policy (and certainly image) of the government being against crime, as opposed to mainly funded by it.
2002-03-11 12:20:10 PM
Why don't they spend the 1.5 mil on national dental-work instead?
2002-03-11 12:20:10 PM
Monkyman Yeah but when they see you mug the guy they send four or five bobbies out to beat everyone with your color jack on.
2002-03-11 12:21:08 PM
Before I buy my crack/murder/rob some old lady/gang bang in the UK, I ALWAYS discharge the 1 Km radius EMI device that I carry around on my back...

...or something.

Goatman264, I agree with your comment! High taxes are a crime. ;-)
2002-03-11 12:24:23 PM
hahaha, thats great stuff Lunatic
2002-03-11 12:26:20 PM
It's odd, isn't it, that this makes the news. I mean, Britain is still technically 1st world. But Afghan criminals, who are 3rd world, managed to outsmart the entire US defense budget.

Mind, I suppose that was given a bit more Fark coverage.
2002-03-11 12:26:22 PM
Would someone please explain why this is 'amusing'
2002-03-11 12:27:35 PM
Goatman264: Good zinger!
2002-03-11 12:28:09 PM
Balloon: Outsmarting the police, while not clever, is always good for a laugh. A bit like hitting retards and children.
2002-03-11 12:28:46 PM
-"That was never five minutes just now!"

-"Yes it was!"

-"No it wasn't!"
2002-03-11 12:30:09 PM
This is as amusing as cardboard.

"In London, a city of 8 million people, murder is occurring at a record pace. Street robbery, the very crime that Closed Circuit TV is supposed to be best at deterring, will reach 50,000 this year."

This must be do to all the legal firearms available so the subjects can defend themselves against the criminal element.
2002-03-11 12:36:05 PM
Britain should just go ahead get it over with: implant tracking chips into every single person and monitor them 24/7 so that they can't get into trouble. That would be double plus good.
2002-03-11 12:36:32 PM
yeah right Troy

our murder rate is still 1/50th of the USA's.

You can keep the guns ta very much.
2002-03-11 12:37:06 PM
Shooting criminals with guns is much more effective than shooting them with cameras...
2002-03-11 12:38:28 PM

Is there a cable channel I can buy to watch all the stuff ALL THOSE FARKING cameras are catching ? Betcha half the cameras at any time are looking at some hot chick walking down the street.

Bunch of crap . Want to deter crime ? Put this guy on the streets, immediate reduction !!

Skinink: Unfortunately that guy is our equivalent to John Wayne - a media-hungry pretty boy with no brain of his own.
2002-03-11 12:40:52 PM
I still would feel much safer walking thru London than Chicago. Which reminds me, I'll be across the pond for that beer next week, Goatman.

Harmonia:our murder rate is still 1/50th of the USA's.

Yea but try shooting someone with British teeth and you will start laughing before you could even pull the trigger. All right now Guv'nor?
2002-03-11 12:42:49 PM
grrrrr! can anyone tell me how to post an image on here? :(
2002-03-11 12:43:49 PM
Big Brother rocks... I wish I had a video camera in my room... I might motivate me to stop sexually assaulting myself...
2002-03-11 12:45:07 PM
Tip me a nod as soon as you get near a terminal WorldCitizen. I'll set on up for you.

Seconds until Britains digital database of footage is hacked:

"But Afghan criminals, who are 3rd world, managed to outsmart the entire US defense budget."

Part of 'outsmarting' is getting away with it. Jury is still out on how 'smart' these guys were.

In London, a city of 8 million people, murder is occurring at a record pace

This is because they disarmed the people. Take away civilian guns, now all the criminals have a huge advantage and have no fear. Good thinking!

This is what you get when you let socialist liberals run your country.

Oh yeah, let's put up a bunch of cameras, that'll deter the criminals! Good thinking!

our murder rate is still 1/50th of the USA's.
You can keep the guns ta very much.

Is it 1/50th? Your population is 1/5 of the USA's too, let's not forget that.

Your rate of increase in murders is something like 10x that in America as well.

If you look at the charts and graphs, you will see this dramatic incline started on or right after the year when guns were taken away.

I'll keep the guns, thank you! I'll also keep my declining murder rate.
2002-03-11 12:56:56 PM
Interesting though, Harmonia, how crime has been on the decreas for years in the US even with the prolific supply of firearms (and most states enacting Concealed Carry laws allowing it's citizenry to carry handguns in public).

I personally don't believe the commiting of crime has anything to do with the pervasiveness of firearms within a society. A criminal is going to use whatever method is available to them. A law is not going to inhibit a criminal from commiting a crime. However, giving a 90 pound woman the capability of stopping a 300 pound attacker will hopefully solve two problems: keep the woman from having a crime perpetrated against her and elimate the possibility of the criminal commiting any further offenses. You will not see this scenario by arming the woman with a whistle.

Britain is a bit behind the timeline power-curve...

Get ready America, cameras are already being set up on the lawn in D.C. God help me if I ever have to take a leak while Ill im vising the good ol' washington monument.
2002-03-11 01:00:22 PM
"Although CCTV cameras might be useful within a broadly based anti-crime strategy," one specialist told UPI, "turning the nation's city and town streets into seamless surveillance zones is itself no substitute for proper policing."

At least somebody said it.
2002-03-11 01:04:42 PM
This must be a misprint. There is no crime in England cause of gun control and all the camaras. Right?
2002-03-11 01:05:40 PM
that's 1/50th PER CAPITA
2002-03-11 01:05:56 PM
Fair enough point troyfl, but John Lennon was murdered, George Harrison survived, for a bit anyway.
2002-03-11 01:08:22 PM
I remember this one time, at band camp, I was reading this LTE and in it the writer stated (regarding police cameras), "Video cameras in public places are an invasion of privacy!" heh.
2002-03-11 01:12:38 PM
Wheaton arrested for jumping up and down in front of cameras, shouting "can I be in your movie?"
2002-03-11 01:19:09 PM
Plus you don't need to murder someone to stop them from atacking you, and you assume that criminals are beyond rehabilitation, a while ago, we thought that if we kept sending them to Australia, eventually the criminal element would be removed from society, we didn't get to finish, but did it work?
2002-03-11 01:20:34 PM
Others conceal their street muggings by grabbing their victims in a clinch that, on CCTV, looks like nothing more than a romantic hug.

Oh right... So some ugly coont comes up to you in the street and starts giving you a "romantic hug" ~ Like you're just going to stand there and let the farker continue.
2002-03-11 01:38:57 PM
Usually, the farker has a knife or gun, and says "do what I say and I won't kill you".

You, of course, do not have a gun, because you are in England, so you do what he says.
2002-03-11 01:42:57 PM
One interesting point is that prior to the Brits great gun grab, crime was still considerably lower on the island than across the pond. So logically, the removal of firearms should have therefore decreased even further the rampant crime that was widespread throughout Britain in the first place.

Is it that by removing a method of defense from the law abiding members of society has caused an increase in criminal offenses or is it the British as a whole are becoming more barbaric and savage just like the Americans (even though the Yanks still tote around six-guns and bandoliers of ammo shooting up saloons and having gun fights at the OK Corral at high-noon)?

Interesting argument where the British look foolish either way. Either their gun confiscation has had the reverse affect or their citizenry have become more violent and criminal in their behavior.

Look at crime rates in New York, Washington D.C., Newark, NJ, Chicago, and LA. These are great bastions against legal gun ownership and we all know how non-existant crime is in these locations. Then go to Mayberry where every other person owns a firearm and you will see neighbors having nightly gunfights.

Fantasma: 1) Shooting someone that is intent on causing me (or anyone else) grave bodily harm is not murder. I call it self-defense. Not withstanding that by shooting them you will kill them. They will however, cease and desist their criminal activity against you.

2) I'm sure rehabilitating them while they are bashing your skull in is first and foremost on your list of priorities. Mine would be to not have them start the bashing, and if the bashing commenced, to end it in the quickest manner possible. We can have discussion concerning their rehabilition after any concerns regarding my personal well being have been addressed. Rehabiliting someone after they have killed me doesn't do me any good - I'll be dead. Then again, I guess I'm just thinking about myself and not the cuddly criminal that is intent on doing me harm. After all, s/he had a rough childhood and was abused so it is ok for him/her to assault other members of society.
