Sports. I'm bored.

2002-03-11 10:11:59 AM
and his rookie cards are selling for eBay for only $5? So ESPN thinks I'm some sort of dope? Thanks, guys!

Whoever said the world would be different after 9/11 wasn't counting on the Internet.

2002-03-11 10:12:39 AM
Big friggin deal.

2002-03-11 10:14:05 AM
Is that good? How many touchdowns does he have?

2002-03-11 10:15:22 AM
Is this amusing because his name is Balfour, or because he has a 13.50 ERA?

2002-03-11 10:15:23 AM
Sounds like a fantasy sleeper pick.

Oh wait, Balfour = Ball Four. That is why this is amusing.

2002-03-11 10:17:09 AM
Um, yeah, so why haven't they canned him?

Oh yeah, I forgot - this is the team that ALL the owners want to can. That explains everything.

2002-03-11 10:20:16 AM
wtf is an ERA ?

2002-03-11 10:20:43 AM
Balfour or no Balfour - the Twins have one of the best three-man rotations in the league.

Contraction or no contraction - the Twins will win their division.

Enough sports crap. Pleease.

2002-03-11 10:21:30 AM
Dude, what a STUPID post. The guy has 2.2 innings pitched with 4 earned runs. He probably gave up a few hits and a big homer. Wooptie farking doo. That's analagous to saying that a batter has an average of .111 because he's 1 for 9 in his career. Once he gets more innings that ERA will come down bigtime.

Charonstyx,

ERA = earned run average. Statistical computation of the average number of runs a pitcher gives up in a game that are the direct result of their ability ( or in this case, inability ) to pitch.

Instead of eyeballing pron all day, look up something for yourself. sheeesh

3rd baseman Mike Hunt is warming up in the box.

2002-03-11 10:41:30 AM
That stat says nothing about how good/bad of a pitcher he is. If he had 500 innings pitched and his ERA was 13.5, then he wouldn't be a major league pitcher, or a minor league pitcher for that matter.

His plan to form a Palestinian State comprised of natives and european jewry in the wake of the First World War was a nice attempt though.

At least on this threat there's NO WAY Harmonia, World Citizen, et al , can turn this into a long windy political thread.

Unless it's something like how his ERA affects the Dominican Republic (?)

Balfour Declaration: an official statement issued on behalf of the British government in 1917, announcing its support in principle of a proposed home for the Jewish people in Palestine.

Balfour Declaration, 2002: You couldn't pitch a tent, loser!

2002-03-11 10:51:36 AM
Skinink-

Actually, Harmonia or WC might say that only fat, lazy, and easily satisfied Americans with low standards would let a loser like this play. Other (far superior) countries wouldn't let this guy play for the women's auxillary team much less the Majors.

At least that what I think....

C'mon cut him some slack - he was born in Australia - he's used to throwing boomerangs at wallabies, not baseballs.

All goes to prove that Minnesota sports teams suck.

The Twins _USED_ to be good. They are just rebuilding. They won the World Series in 1987 and 1991. That's when they had Kirby Puckett, Jack Morris, Scott Erickson and Frank Viola. If they don't get eaten up by contraction (if that happens), then they will rebound one of these seasons. Don't get me wrong, I hate the Twins. GO A's!!!

Balfour used to play for Israel - 45 years worth of innings pitched, does anyone have their earned palestinian territory average?

2002-03-11 11:16:01 AM
SpaZkid: I think the Royals will be the team next on the chopping block if the Twins survive (and I think they will) and baseball decides to kill the Expos rather than move them to DC and sell them for a profit to local investors.

The move and sell would be the smart thing to do. That's why Bud "Scumball" Selig won't do it.

2002-03-11 11:22:24 AM
And his WHIP is only 2.73...

2002-03-11 11:22:58 AM
Yeah, F Selig. It's time for some fresh meat. It's too bad for Royals fans, because they could have been competitive. Their owner is an ass. He dumps all their good players and saves as much money as possible. I understand that baseball is a business, but you can't be successful if you don't draw fans to the games, with exciting teams. The A's have capitolized on the Royals. They traded for Johnny Damon for a season (even though he didn't produce like they expected him to) and now they have Jermaine Dye, who was such a key acquisition last season. The poor Royals only have Mike Sweeny left and I bet he is begging to get out of KC. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I couldn't agree more. The Twins WILL win the division this year. Bank it.

A 13.5 ERA really isn't much when you consider that he threw a WHOPPING 2 and 2/3 innings. You need to wait until someone throws at least 15-20 innings before ERA becomes somewhat reliable.

2002-03-11 11:44:01 AM
Rip the Twins, and I will come to your house and kill your first born son.

When my Twins have 101 wins, I will remind all of you that they were to be contracted, and gloat.

Go Cubs! The World Series will be ours in 2002! Well, it will actually go to the Yankees again, but the NL Pennant is ours! With Sosa, Alou and McGriff (I am predicting a monster year from the old Crime Dog) batting back to back to back... i predict many a ball will be flying out to Waveland Ave.!

2002-03-11 11:50:09 AM
Quick1:

The Twins have a pretty decent 3 man rotation, but they need another consistent winner. They still have to contend with the Indians who have been the team to beat over the last few seasons.I definitely think they can do it though.

You people are completely missing the point. His name is Balfour and he has a high ERA. Balfour...ball four..get it? It's like a guy named Jim Slugger hitting 60 home runs.

Glad you could clear that up Yablonski.

Can't make it to the home opener, but I will be at a couple of the games this season. Only made it to two last season, but that was because I was out of the country for alf the summer.

It'd actually be funnier if he had a high amount of walks. People would actually get the joke then.

Now that I think about it, we should have a MN Fark Party at a Twins game. Hmm...

Sounds like a good idea, Quick1.
