American: "Since this is your first offense, you are sentenced to 5 years probation and 200 hours public service removing dog feces from our state highways. Please see the clerk on your way home."

Chinese: "Since this is your first act of cult hooliganism against the state, your family will not be charged the cost of the bullet that will be inserted into your head. Bring in the next gangster!"

Don't forget the 700 Club.
2002-03-09 06:22:10 PM
Easy enough to dismiss the harsh penalty--I would favor it if it lost my Sunday HBO--but Bush and Gang annunced that hacking, yes hacking, is an act of terrorism. Perhaps you will get sent to Cuba or before military tribunal. Besides, they can harvbest even more body parts when they kill hackers in addition to thoswe double parking their bikes.
2002-03-09 06:24:41 PM
I'd find it really amusing if the millions of falon gong practitioners overthrew the chinese government. Probably just another thing I'll never get to see. Too bad. On the bright side, at least we're not still the only nation with that embarrassing habit of executing people.
2002-03-09 06:25:56 PM

Since there record is so bad on human rights, I guess we have no choice but to give EVEN MORE INNCENTIVES to U.S. companies to manufacture goods there.

This way US employees making $15/hour with benefits can compete head-to-head with "employees" in China making $1.50/day with that motivational AK-47 pointed at their heads.

Soon, the Chinese standard of living will approach ours and they will demand democracy!!!

If not, we'll just repeat this process over and over again!!!

That seem's to be the strategy for dealing with China now.

2002-03-09 06:30:26 PM
I guess they figured they got the Olympics, so they could go back to abusing human rights. ;)
2002-03-09 06:48:12 PM
china doesn't care about killing it's criminal, it's population is way to high and takign care of people in prisons would just waste their money. So they make strict laws, expect change when the population of china is down to 300million. but we all know that won't happen
2002-03-09 06:49:24 PM
Too bad, so sad.
2002-03-09 06:49:42 PM
This proves that the USA is evil, and does not obey human rights laws
2002-03-09 06:54:38 PM
Sauce_Pan: That link was.......interesting
2002-03-09 07:00:09 PM
This proves that Bush was right on the money when he put China in the Axis of...

What, wait a minute, he didn't?
2002-03-09 07:27:54 PM
Did anybody read the article? I realize it's Saturday night and all, but...
They didn't steal cable. They hacked into the state television station cable and showed a protest film to millions upon millions of Chinese people. You better believe China's gov't is pissed. Propaganda is their farking job and they don't like to be upstaged.
2002-03-09 07:30:16 PM
i work for a computer security company, and we joke that people from china get shot on site if caught hacking...well...damn didn't think we might be right.
2002-03-09 07:32:54 PM
Sauce_Pan-I submit several links a week, most of them are pretty good too. I have accepted the fact that the vast majority will not get picked, and I only put links in the comment section if they are relevant to the thread. While that Barbie flash animation may be amusing, it doesn't really belong here. If we all had that mentality, each comment section would be filled with hundreds upon hundreds of irrelevant links.
2002-03-09 07:44:06 PM
I've had it in for China ever since all the LeAnn Chin restaurants in Kansas City suddenly closed about a year ago.
2002-03-09 07:57:36 PM
their campaign against what the government calls an "evil cult"

HOW THE fark can a communist call something evil? Doesnt evil denote the presence of the supernatural? Probly a bad translation.
2002-03-09 08:15:10 PM
These bastards kill people for stealing gas from cars why is this such a farking suprise?

All this shiat started with the Falun Gong members having the balls to protest in 1999 in front of the chinese captial building for democracy. After that the communists have hunted them down and in some cases burned them alive then said that they were a group of fanatics who killed themselfs and their families. Its not as dramatic as when they ran over college kids with tanks at the last protest but still farking crazy.
2002-03-09 08:27:56 PM
God. They're like Florida and Texas combined.
2002-03-09 08:31:37 PM
Off with their heads!!!

Chinese Executions Funniest Videos.
2002-03-09 09:28:17 PM
Is anyone else having a problem with the link?
I can't pull the story.
Perhaps they executed the news staff? ;)
2002-03-09 09:53:18 PM
I do not agree with this post.
2002-03-09 09:59:14 PM
I feel sorry for the Chinese. Its no wonder that so many die trying to escape from such a cruel, repressive regime.
2002-03-09 10:07:30 PM
Sgtfox: it'd only be ironic
2002-03-09 10:17:11 PM
Now now, don't badmouth China. They're our friends. They have money.
2002-03-09 10:52:03 PM
So... HYPOTHETICALLY, if I hacked the Chinese government's website changed the site to say something in huge letters like "Suck my Canadian balls, and eat shiat and die, commie faggots!" I would get executed, right? assuming i got caught of course. Not that they ever would catch me.

I wouldn't do that, but believe me, I know how to do it.
2002-03-09 11:22:11 PM
I remember back in the olden days when you could take the cover off of the "HBO box" and stick a wet paper towel on the connectors for free Cinemax. Everyone should have the right to the pursuit of free cable.
2002-03-09 11:25:18 PM
Another fine example of the utopian socialist society that harmonica thinks is best for all the world.
2002-03-09 11:56:29 PM
What do you expect from a country that kills its own to keep its oppressive regime going. Oh well, glad that WTO let them in so kids can get play money and plastic handcuffs at the dollar store.
2002-03-10 12:18:25 AM
Evil in no way demands the presence of the supernatural. Evil is simply a word we humans use to call each other morally devoid. Since just about everyone has different ideas of right and wrong, you better damn believe there's a whole lot of evil sitting around and festering. In this case, the chinese government is calling this peaceful, generally harmless religion evil because of it's corrupt and morally devoid ways - such as occasionally saying something once in awhile instead of just sitting silently and taking their abuse like good little repressed people, and believing in something other than those with power in china. I'm fairly certain that the chinese leaders are the only people with the foresight to recognize the horrible evil of this cult. And us with the nerve to criticize them for killing these people for their spiritual/physical excersize. (I don't know why, but falon gong has always reminded me of those old people who do tai chi in public parks...) In fact, they're saving the rest of the world from ravaging by this generally passive cult. Lets give them the nobel peace prize.
2002-03-10 01:31:24 AM
I think in China they also can execute you for stealing livestock. I wonder if their ease ins execution has soething to do with their overpopulation. Or if AOL-Time Warner has a stronger hold there than here.
2002-03-10 01:49:14 AM

Wow, I almost forgot about LeAnn Chin restauraunts. I think they closed down because the food they served sucked. for those who don't know, LeAnn Chin was kind of a "McChink" fastfood chinese place... (i can say "McChink" coz' my wife is from mainland China, and she laughs whenever I call her "chink" or "slanty-eyed".) (she also threatens me with divorce when i don't wash the dishes). anyway... I dunno if that report is entirely true.. The writer was obviously biased against mainland chinese gov't. My wife and I get into arguments all the time about China.. especially when it comes to religous freedom (both of are athiests, but we believe in both Freedom Of, and FROM religion). Falun-Gong is kind of like Tai-Chi mixed with Jedi Knights. except they shiat that we're not being told is that are also like the Moonies (1970's cult) in that they often starve themselves in search of "enlightenment" or "cleansing", and they like to focus "chi". Not to mention the fact that there have been numerous reports of children of believers dying when their parents refused medical treatment with drugs or surgery, having faith that they could control the childs chi and will them to be well.

I'm not saying that they're 100% right for banning the Falun-Gong. coz before they used to be just like a morning exercise club... It just seems that like people are putting too much pressure on China when they don't know what the hell is really going on.

And as far as hacking the cable system.. If someone here did that on a government controlled/regulated television signal (FCC!) that person would likely serve jail time. It is also likely that if the message spoke of revolution, or support for some "enemy" that the government may be fighting this second, that person could be tried for TREASON, and thus executed him/herself.

so nya.

2002-03-10 02:11:38 AM
anyone smell a hacker revolution? where can i sign up??
2002-03-10 03:02:03 AM
Funny how Harmonia always goes eerily silent when this type of stuff comes up, no?

Anyway, if it was just people stealing cable getting shot, I'd give the gov't a Hero tag. But breaking in and showing a film to millions of Chinese earns a Hero tag for the protesters.
