If I had that much pot, every damn traffic law would be obeyed, id make sure all lights were working, and be driving a steady 5 miles under the limit.

2005-01-20 02:30:57 PM
POT IS TEH EVIL! It's ruining America!!!!!!

2005-01-20 02:31:09 PM
This was BC, too. I've never even seen BC Bud, and this dude had over 100 pounds of it. Go directly to jail, I guess.

2005-01-20 02:31:51 PM
Where do these values come from? Even the best shiat isn't worth anything near $8,000 a pound.

2005-01-20 02:32:18 PM
... because he was driving at 10 kph

"Whoa... slow down dude. Speed kills."

Any websites that show current day prices for various drugs?

2005-01-20 02:35:08 PM
Nah, that's considering 500 dollars an ounce, about 17.5 dollars a gram. This stuff is sopposedly top notch.

For all I know, that could be wholesale or 2nd layer resale.

Twenty for a gram is usually good stuff around here, 15 if you know where to go.

SerovaJoe: Any websites that show current day prices for various drugs?

High Times might...I know they do in the magazine.

Let's review, teh man wan ts this guy to go away for as long as possible. If they price his pot at street value, it is worth said 900 grand. This, however, assumes he is gonna move it himself. NOBODY can move 110 pounds of pot on their own. Plus, the more someone buys, the less they pay per capita. I'd guess he should have buyers all lined up ahead of time, probably pulling in less than half of that 880k himself. The distributers and retailers are where the price starts jumping.

J.Garcia'sRightMiddleFinger: Even the best shiat isn't worth anything near $8,000 a pound.

16*4*110*$125=$880,000

naturalbornposer: This, however, assumes he is gonna move it himself.

It doesn't say or suggest that, it is just giving the final street value of the dope. He was probably just a mule anyway, but the price would be arounf $1.5-3k in those quantaties per pound.

2005-01-20 02:46:05 PM
lowdown: 16*4*110*$125=$880,000

Find me someone who will pay $125 a quarter in bulk and I will become a pothead again and start growing pot just for them.

I'm just saying he was probably not gonna see anywhere near $880,000 for that weed.

2005-01-20 02:49:20 PM
$125 a quarter? Not outside NYC. I wonder what those cops are smoking to come up with these ridiculous bullshiat prices.

2005-01-20 02:50:08 PM
Nobody is saying the MULE would make $880,000. These bust stories always use maximum final street value to make the pigs look better in the paper. With cocaine they break it down to dime rocks, with teh weed it is quater sacs.

J.Garcia'sRightMiddleFinger: and start growing pot just for them.

Good luck trimming 110 pounds of weed. It'd take you months.

Yeah, but I could hire help... and pay them in weed.

The important thing is the 110 pounds of high grade pot was wasted by some dumbass not using a turn signal. I call for a [SAD] tag.

2005-01-20 03:02:30 PM
I have yet to see someone get pulled over for not using a turn signal. Then again, if you're cruising around with 110 lb of BC Bud or even 1/8 oz of any Bud, you should drive your car as if you are taking the driving portion of your license test.

This is sooooo sad!

AuntofDogface

My brother got a ticket for not using a turn signal, but he was also speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, spinning tire, and blasting an air horn at other motorists.

2005-01-20 03:20:07 PM
I HATE people who don't use their turn signal.

It's three inches from your left hand, morans. Use it.

2005-01-20 03:20:32 PM
What is interesting to me is how they talk about this super-scary "BC Bud" like its the scourge of mankind and there's a whole pipeline from Canada to Colorado that must be stopped at all costs or our children will be strung out zombies.

Hydro bud grown in BC is the same as hydro bud grown anywhere, as long as you have good genetics...

2005-01-20 03:30:41 PM
This guy probably drove right by my freakin' house on his way to becoming Bubba's boyfriend. If he had just stopped at my house I would have been happy to store his weed for him.

I know people who are paying $125/quarter. But that's at the consumer level, not the distribution level. And it's the good stuff, not this seedy and stemmy schwag that gets passed off as weed around here. That goes for about $80 a quarter. Farking HIGHway robbery.

Didn't you read the article man? It says "highly potent"

Do the police need probably cause to bring out the drug sniffing dog? If so, what's the probable cause in this case?

2005-01-20 03:39:49 PM
I wonder what those cops are smoking to come up with these ridiculous bullshiat prices.

Most likely high-grade hydroponic shiat.

/man.

2005-01-20 03:41:10 PM
I thought 'beasters' came from Canada (you know, good shiat, but grown fast and packed like hay, not the top of the line), whereas dank weed was usually grown more slowly in smaller quantities domestically. Either way, I seriously doubt this was incredible pot, noone with the capacity to produce 110 pounds is going to take the time to grow incredible weed.

2005-01-20 03:55:36 PM
Well, they obviously already had a tip on him. They were following him just waiting for an excuse to pull him over. Hell, I didn't RTFA but he may have even just been changing lanes and not used a signal.

My point being, the gig was already up. Since when is not using a turn signal probable cause for search? I guarantee someone had already narc'd him out.

I'm wondering why they didn't break it down into twompers and inflate the overall value that way. I mean ~7 twenty $ bags is $140.00 per quarter ounce. That puts the total at close to a MILLION DOLLARS!!!!

$140.00 x4 (ounce) = $560.00 x 4 (QP) = $2240.00 x 4 (lb) = $8960.00 x 110= $985,600.00

I mean, if you are going to trump up the charges, might as well do it right.

2005-01-20 03:57:58 PM
Troopers said "BC Bud" is grown indoors hydroponically in the British Columbia area

do these troopers realize that the "british columbia area" is about the size of Texas and Oregon put together?

2005-01-20 04:00:49 PM
I thought the great thing about BC buds is that they were grown outdoors, NOT hydro.

Everyone know outdoors is the best. The drawback being of course that any sizeable operation is a bust. Unless its not, in which case you are likely in BC.

Good soil, plenty of sun and rainwater.... mmmmmm tasty tasty natural goodness. Thank you Lord!!!!

TheRealMcCoy

That seady stemmy schwag is called Mexi around here and goes for about $50.00 an ounce.

Of course, it tastes like arse and gives you a headache.

Thank God for local growers! Support your local economy, keep Marijuana illegal and tax free!!!

What Microbe said. This was obviously a drug enforcement stop that had nothing to do with traffic safety. I wouldn't be surprised if the cops lied about the reason for stopping him, but since everybody does something wrong while driving they probably didn't need to.

Damn, I could have smoked that weed. Sad Tag indeed.

and about what Jarrett said: Isn't there a pending supreme court decision about whether drug police using drug sniffing dogs legally constitutes a search?

The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads as follows:

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

The search and seizure provisions of the Fourth Amendment are all about privacy. Most people instinctively understand the concept of privacy. It is the freedom to decide which details of your life will be revealed to the public and which will be revealed only to those you care to share them with. To honor this freedom, the Fourth Amendment protects against "unreasonable" searches and seizures by state or federal law enforcement authorities.

In practice, this means that the police may override your privacy concerns and conduct a search of your home, barn, car, boat, office, personal or business documents, bank account records, trash barrel or whatever, if:

*the police have probable cause to believe they can find evidence that you committed a crime, and a judge issues a search warrant, or
*the particular circumstances justify the search without a warrant first being issued.

VERDICT: BOGUS SEARCH!!!!!!!

2005-01-20 10:22:06 PM
The turn signal(or lack thereof) was the excuse to pull him over...I'll bet the cop had his eye on him already. Rental car, out of state plates, young male, almost assuredly looking the part of a stoner, etc etc etc...I'm all about smoking weed, but let's face it, it does make you stupid, and to transport that much, across state lines for that matter (making it a federal case) is just plain dumb. This guy is going down. Not rightfully so, but going down nonetheless.

I just want to know, when you drive by Aunt of Dogface's car, are there like 60 puppies in the back?

2005-01-20 10:25:43 PM
I used to work at a garage in Florida that did work for the Florida Highway Patrol. The Troopers and old Mechanics would sit around late at night, during the slow hours, and talk about the big busts and how to spot a drug mule.
The cops claimed that a rented vehicle, a nervous young male driver, a car full of wrappers, and traveling under the speed limit equaled a possible mule. They would call in drug dog vehicle as back up and then take the dog out for a "piss".

If the dog went nuts, they'd press for a search. If driver refused to consent, they'd find a vehicle violation (worn tires, illegal modifications, etc) then tow the vehicle.

The biggest haul they got doing this was a Winnebago from Canada heading north from Miami full of Cocaine.

You don't need probable cause to bring out the drug dog, but unless you happen to get stopped by a cop with one, they won't call out for one just for the hell of it unless you give him a reason.

withj a 100 pounds of pot he probably could have passed the cop going the other way at highway speeds and you would still smell it.

I'll wager this guy was either a) an ass to the cop, b) baked himself c) driving a vw van, with dead stickers and a tie dye d) had a box of fritos riding shotgun with him.

Driving through texas late one night I had a texas narcotics officer pull up behind me on the highway (nothing in the car mind you). Seeing as I was in a rental car with jersey plates, I knew he would find whatever reason he could to pull me over. I saw him get in behind me and had nothing on me at that point, so i set the cruise control at the speed limit, and just sat tight. He stayed on me like glue running radar the whole time for 2 and a half hours. (if your reading this walker, i'm dying to know if you were ever able to have kids after that shift)

around a 150 MILES later i changed lanes to exit. As soon as I moved into the next lane the lights came on. He strolls up to the car our conversation goes something like this:

"So what made you decide to change lanes back there son"
"The same reason why you were probably deciding if you should get off here or not. I'm almost out of gas"
"Next time use your blinker longer (with a wink)"

We had a laugh, i offered to let him search the car seeing how his jacket said he was a "drug interdiction officer" and i was probably the most suspicious thing he had seen in weeks. He declined (even had a dog with him, who he let out to pee but didn't bother to sniff the car) and we were back on our way. Amusingly as I was filling up at the gas station, he rolls in behind me.

Point of the story is, I have been stopped for doing some pretty dumbass things, and have only had a cop ask to look in my car once. If your not a dick to them and turn off the maralin manson cd when he walks up to your car, you'll be much better off.

I also never had a 110 pounds of pot in my car, and would wager the cop would pick up on the brick working its way out of my ass if he stopped me, which is a sure sign trouble is afoot.
