are you supposed to registure all handguns? I have never heard of this before.

2005-01-18 11:58:52 AM
The gun had one round in the chamber and three in the magazine.

Criminals are so stupid. Cartriges are $6.50/100 at WalMart and this twit has 3 in the magazine.

And here's one more piece of advice...

2005-01-18 03:43:20 PM
If there were 16 in the clip and one in the hole, then this guy was about to make some bodies turn cold.

poor excuse for a Regulator with only 3 I say.

"I know what you're thinking. Did I ask, "Pretty please give me back my unliscened gun ?" five times, or six ? Well, to be honest with you, in all the excitement, I kinda lost track myself ..."

Wow, you must have found a more detailed article that the rest of us. With information such as:
1) what the original felony was
2) what kind of gun it was
3) why he murderous intent has to do with how much ammo you have

How else is a convicted felon supposed to get a gun?
He can't get registered for one, so this poor unfortunate soul is left to wander the earth with a unregistered, one in the chambah, 3 in the mag, roscoe.

2005-01-18 03:55:23 PM
"Don't demand your unregistered firearm back" - sure, hindsight is always 20/20 - but waiting around for the perfect crime doesn't put crack in the pipe...

/nothin... but Weber's has really good food...

They don't even mention what make and model of gun it was. If it was a Hi-Point, definitly a dumbass. However if he had a Springfield Armory 1911, then it might be worth the risk.

2005-01-18 03:59:35 PM

Remember, DO NOT leave your gun in the bar. Believe me, I know!

If you ban felons only criminals will carry...guns...er.. what?

2005-01-18 04:01:56 PM
Well, at least it was unregistered, so they can't prove it was his, and it was found on the floor, so they can't prove he was in possession of it.

Weber's Inn != The University of Michigan.

Weber's Inn barely falls within Ann Arbor, if at all.

Now if you want to make some comments about our unattractive female student body, I won't raise any objections.

They do have a damned good buffet, though.

True, I don't know how that stuff works. He might be able to get off by saying that they can't prove that he had posetion of the gun. Only that he asked for the gun.

2005-01-18 04:06:32 PM
Leave the gun!

2005-01-18 04:06:43 PM
mpmalj: Except for the fingerprints and the part where he, you know, is screaming and demanding his gun back to a roomful of witnesses.

Other than that, yeah, it's the perfect defense.

2005-01-18 04:06:52 PM
One round in the chamber and 3 in the clip = unarmed!

Every state is different with its gun laws. Some states require law-abiding citizens to register handguns so they have your address and list of guns you own. Other states require no registration at all but you obviously still go through all the background checks to purchase one. Just depends on the state.

You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands......or I drop it in a bar, whichever.

2005-01-18 04:31:47 PM
Before the gun flamewar explodes, I'll start one as to whether this is ironic:

Only 'law-abiding' people are required to register a firearm; felons are legally exempt from the requirement.
Charge dropped!

Haynes v. U.S. (1968), the court said "We hold that a proper claim of the constitutional privilege against self-incrimination provides a full defense to prosecutions either for failure to register a firearm under sec.5841 or for possession of an unregistered firearm under sec.5851.

True dat Unstable Air Mass..

In my beloved Virginia, for instance, to purchase a firearm, one must provied identification to a liscenced retailer, i.e. social security number. An instant background check is then performed with someone who has access to the VA state police's database for such things...if everything is good, the proud new owner goes home, if not, he has a conversation with a very polite Virginia State Trooper.

To carry a concealed weapon, one must obtain a concealed carry handgun permit, which entails an application that must be approved by the General District Court, which entails a more thorough background check.

Virginia does not require registration of serial numbers, which is sort of interesting considering the VSP gets a copy of the bill of sale with: you guessed it, the serial number of the weapon right there at the top.

I understand that Maryland concealed carry permits are harder to get and have the weapons serial number right on the permit. If you have a different weapon than the one listed, its a class 1 misdemeanor which means fine and possible 12 month stay in county lockup, not to mention the inability to obtain another concealed carry permit.

Galius_Persnickety

That is VERY interesting...that will take one felony charge away, which will probably keep this asshat from getting LWOP as an habitual criminal.

/If it doesn't wash at trial, there is always the 9th Circuit!

2005-01-18 04:58:29 PM
How do you get charged with possession of an unlicensed handgun when the problem itself arises because you DON'T have possession of it???????

/hates lawyers

2005-01-18 04:58:35 PM
Remember, guns dont kill people.

I do.

2005-01-18 05:04:23 PM

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire one round, or only zero? Did he use wadding so the ball didn't roll out, is his powder dry, did wind blow the powder out of the pan, will his flint spark, did rain fall in the pan, did he use enough powder in the first place and is his gun accurate enough to hit a man at three paces?".

So, you gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"..... Under the circumstances, you probably do.
