When i was in high school as an actor, I had some insane rehearsal schedules. Id regularly go 3 or 4 days without sleep. Got addicted to caffeine, and developed a weird narcolepsy condition towards the end. Realized i needed to change some shiat when i woke up on the grass in the park downtown next to the cruise ships, with no recolection of how i got there, and 50 dollars less in my pocket. That morning I stumbled into Heritage (a local coffee chain) and ordered a 36 ounce cup filled with nothing but 14 espresso shots and then filled the rest of the way with black coffee. They named the drink after me, but to my knowledge, no ones ordered one since. Lesson: Get your damn sleep, or it will fark with shiat in your head.

I'm surprised. Being Russian, I would think he would have ready access to Pravda.ru, and that always puts me asleep when it's posted on Fark.

I thought it was a reference to Stephen King's IT for some reason. I guess that doesn't make sense does it.

After seeing killer clowns from outer space, I felt the same way.

But that's because The Dickies song was so damned addicting.

At least there wasn't $50 more in your pocket.

Somebody should tell this guy to start his own business.

I thought you were supposed to be dead after about 10 days with no sleep.

Then again, I used to think chimpanzees were friendly. Boy, you find some things out the hard way.

2005-01-18 02:24:45 PM
I know how the guy must feel. I'm considered an unusual case and nothing worked for me for very long. I now take XYREM, which is probably the most severely regulated drug on the market. It's legal GHB, and I'm only one of a handfull of people taking it for my particular condition.

this just in Putin to assign Fyodor Nesterchuk on 24 hour 365 day a year missile watch...

2005-01-18 02:25:40 PM
at least he hasn't had the hiccups for 45 years.

"...hiccup...kill me...hiccup...kill me..."

2005-01-18 02:28:06 PM
he feels guilty about faking it

2005-01-18 02:28:51 PM
You would definitely die. A band director had a form of mad cow disease that destroyed his ability to sleep and over the course of a year he slowly just faded away. Also, a man who stayed awake for more than 8 days straight for a radiohshow charity suffered life long psychological damage and was never the same.

20 years is a complete lie. Without even micro sleep your brain would die and you'd be incapable of doing anything in a year at most.

2005-01-18 02:29:00 PM
Shenanigans, you can only go 10 days without sleep. Then you die.

2005-01-18 02:29:07 PM
I switch off the light and keep dozing

how is this not sleeping?

"Nesterchuk's insomnia is treated as an exception from the rules"

Huh? They got sleeping rules?

Without R.E.M. sleep wouldn't he constantly be Hallucinating?

That story did the trick for me.

i am sleeping right now!

2005-01-18 02:32:44 PM
That's it, I'm calling it: shenanigans!

2005-01-18 02:33:50 PM
This case is not unique, and probably not "shenanigans". The Guiness book of world records lists a man in South Africa who has not more than dozed in years, and they are very thorough in their research.

2005-01-18 02:34:09 PM
Yikes. I've pulled a few all nighters and that screwed me up (from, oh, about 4 to 6 AM wierd stuff starts happening)...

I call shenanigans on this guy too. BTW the copy reads not unlike a babelfish straight translation...

2005-01-18 02:34:14 PM
...also, this needs an [UNLIKELY] tag

2005-01-18 02:34:14 PM
Actually, this can happen. I read about a case like this in a Psych textbook. In fact, it's probably the same guy. The book said he always read at night and closed his eyes when he got tired but never fell asleep.

2005-01-18 02:34:25 PM
stephen02tb:

His brain waves might not match those of a sleeping person when he's "dozing." If they haven't checked that, haven't hooked him up to an EEG, then they should. They might find that he does, in fact, sleep.

But no doctor worth his salt would neglect to do this.

I once managed to go four consecutive nights without sleep, just because I wanted to see how long I could go. I crapped out in a chair on the fifth day and slept for thirteen hours. By the fourth day, I was having mild hallucinations.

It was interesting, but it was really stupid (ah, the things bored teens will do).

homegrown runner: Without R.E.M. sleep wouldn't he constantly be Hallucinating?

No, he'd be singing about Radio Free Europe, how the world is ending but he feels fine, losing his religion, seeing some man on the moon, and generally go down hill from there on.

\Obvious?

From Walt Whitman's, "The Sleepers"

I wander all night in my vision,
Stepping with light feet, swiftly and noiselessly stepping and stopping,
Bending with open eyes over the shut eyes of sleepers,
Wandering and confused, lost to myself, ill-assorted, contradictory,
Pausing, gazing, bending, and stopping.

How solemn they look there, stretchd and still!
How quiet they breathe, the little children in their cradles!

The wretched features of ennuys, the white features of corpses, the livid faces of drunkards, the sick-gray faces of onanists,
The gashd bodies on battle-fields, the insane in their strong-doord rooms, the sacred idiots, the new-born emerging from gates, and the dying emerging from gates,
The night pervades them and infolds them...

I have gone 12 days without sleep. Was pretty loopy by the end, hearing things, almost seemed drunk

Ha ha, the Ukraine. Do you know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak. It's feeble. I think it's time to put the hurt on the Ukraine.
