The last two games against the Knicks were really fun to watch. It's nice to finally have a sports team in Chicago to be paying attention to again.

Sat 15 New York
Mon 17 at New York

Not exactly the cream of the crop. But, better than nothing I guess.

I know I need to switch to a different brand of crack, but gawd I am sick of ESPN kissing Michael Jordan's ass.

Okay so they made one quick reference to him in the article, but every time he stepped on a basketball court to play a pickup game or practice with others, ESPN would have these headlines teasing another Michael Jordan comeback.

Someone in baseball could be on the verge of breaking DiMaggio'shiat streak and ESPN would first run something about Michael Jordan contemplating playing again while taking a dump at a Morton's.

The guy has been a hack when it comes to management in the NBA, yet ESPN treats it like he's some patron saint. Yeah, the guy was good on the court, but he's a failure at operating an NBA franchise. His ability to shoot a three-ball over Craig Ehlo does not translate into ability to run a franchise.

MJ this...MJ that...ESPN and Ahmad Rashad should have just get it over with and publicly kiss his ass on live TV.

Krause is no longer the GM there, is he? If so, they may have a shot at keeping their young talent around this time (Brand, Miller, Artest, etc.). Chicago has some great sports fans, so it would be nice to see *one* of their teams in a playoff setting.

Oh well, at least they can cheer for Donovan McNabb when he makes it to the Super Bowl this year, right?

2005-01-18 02:48:35 AM
No, Jerry Krause FINALLY retired due to health reasons that basically amounted to him being a disgustingly obese person. Enter John Paxson, the early-90s version of Steve Kerr who, like Kerr did in '97, sunk a championship-winning shot. Paxson did it in 1993 with a three-ball having 3.9 left against the supposed "Team of Destiny" that year, the Suns; Kerr shot a jumper at the free-throw line in '97. I am a FAN, baby.

Under Pax, they've immediately turned into a near (and soon to be) .500 team. Not something that ordinarily makes people ooh and aah, but considering from where the Bulls have come...it's amazing. Like The Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, wrote in his 33 things I love about the NBA column underneath no. 16 - the resurgence of the Bulls: "You mean we should take proven college players over teenage projects who only do well in one-on-one games? Do I understand this correctly?" Paraphrased, of course, but eh.

John Paxson for Executive of the Year!

Oh yeah, to the above FARKer who called Michael Jordan "good" on the court:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You score Understatement of the Millennium (Thus Far).

Idiot. And the shot over Ehlo was a jumper at the charity stripe. Although you may be thinking about something else, Craig Ehlo was Jordan's 80s biatch and it was PAINFUL at times, much like it became against Jordan's 90s biatch, Patrick Ewing.

fantasy basketball has changed my life. now whenever i am watching any game where i have a player involved i find myself screaming at the TV as though they can hear me (don't miss this free throw Zydrunas... don't miss... don't... ZYDRUNAS YOU'RE THE MAAAAANNNN!!!!! WOOOOO! ILGAUKAS UP IN THIS biatch!!!!!). on the other hand if i'm gonna be crazy anyways (read: game with the pistons) it just makes Ben Wallace destroying shots even better.
speaking of which, the pistons are 10 of their last 12 i think (could be even better). i'm really pleased to see my favorite team play so well and especially put the hurt on the suns earlier today (or yesterday depending on how you look at it).

2005-01-18 03:29:10 AM
I think in order to be more accurate, one would need to say that *every* opposing player was at one time or another Jordan's biatch. He was so dominant that I have no choice but to remain highly skeptical when people say LeBron James will be the greatest NBA player who has ever lived. He's exceptionally talented, but he has some big shoes to fill.

/hope Luke Walton is ok...

2005-01-18 03:54:46 AM
LeBron's got miles to go until he sleeps as Jordan's successor, thanks. And point taken on everybody being Jordan's biatch, but...you have to be a Bulls fan to know how Craig Ehlo became the stand-in for everyone against Jordan in the 80s, and how Ewing's frustrations with never being able to beat him defined other players in the 90s.

It only makes sense...

When Jordan left the Bulls they imploded. There was a lot of talent on the team that was playing for less than their apparent market value. They only stuck around to play with Jordan and collect a handful of championship rings. After Mike left, obviously, they had to go to different teams to get paid (or retire because they were just waiting to die anyhow). Scottie Pippen (possibly the gayest name in basketball, not that there's anything wrong with that) is a prime example. He was fairly underpaid as a Bull, now he's earning all that money.

One would think that a Bulls recovery to becomming a real team again should be taking this long. It's probably akin to having an expansion team.

What makes Jordan's biatch-making of Ehlo even more memorable is that Ehlo was oneof the better defenders in the game back then, and could put up a point or two. But because of Mike, no one will remember that. Just like how Ewing is really undervalued as a center because he couldn't get through the Bulls when Mike was running things. In fact, most of the L's superstars in the Jordan era are probably undervalued because they didn't measure up to the standard he set.

For comparisons these days, all I have to say is that until a player owns the whole league for 10 years, you can't make comparisons. Or, we should compare the new-gen players to a more accurate counterpart. Kobe plays more like Drexler then Jordan. LBJ plays more like Oscar Robertson than Jordan. McGrady plays more like Gervin than Jordan. Soo.. if Mike was better than those three, he's still better than these three.. but that's all up for debate. Like someone above said, you really had to see him play to understand.

Ben Gordon may score more points, but then again why is Duhon starting over him? Oh ya, cuz Gordon couldn't complete a pass to himself.

-----
Bulls head coach Scott Skiles isn't ready to start Gordon and increase his minutes.

"I have said this many times, Ben does not have the stamina to play huge, huge, minutes of a game, and I thought tonight was a great example of that,'' said Skiles. "He was taken advantage on the defensive end and struggled to make shots, he struggled even to get open in the second half. half.''
---

When a player isn't a scorer he is only used as a passer. Gordon doesn't have as many assists because he's primarily a scorer who is usually guarded by the opponents best defenders. Not the case for Duhon.

2005-01-18 02:58:40 PM
Guards need to know how to pass to survive, especially short ones. If a listed 6'3" (Measured 6'2.25" IN SHOES mind you) doesn't have enough stamina to complete a game and can't come close to matching his turnover numbers in assists, he won't last in this league long at all.

2005-01-18 04:43:22 PM
Rookies usually have stamina issues. They hit the 'Rookie Wall' when the 82-game season starts to take its toll on kids who aren't yet conditioned for it. Even Yao Ming hasn't adjusted yet, partially because of all the time he spends playing for China in the off-season.

I love when people say Chicago sucks, when their own place of residence has nothing at all even close compared to Chicago.

I dunno. Went to Chicago for a trip with my former college's Art Club a couple of years ago, and was pretty underwhelmed. Maybe I'd have liked it more if I'd gotten to stay longer, who knows. I just know that it was much, much more boring for me than the previous year's VERY enjoyable trip to New Orleans.

/Wondering what Victoly's pic of Frank Williams has to do with basketball, though
//No, seriously, is really wondering
