Censorship? :)

2002-03-09 01:33:20 AM
Wow. Now it's official.

Bush isnt a real bad or mean guy, but hes just a dumbass. Same thing with the Enron thing, he wasnt trying to screw people, he just didnt know he was screwing up, and now is going thru thr "Whoops, i farked up" actions. If we have to have a Republican in office, cant we get Powell? hes atleast in reality smarter then a Apple

2002-03-09 01:34:08 AM
I really tried to be impartial on this. Let me put the mp3 back up here.

2002-03-09 01:34:41 AM
Right...

2002-03-09 01:35:06 AM
Put on your tinfoil hats everybody, it's time to play "Let's deliberately misinterpret what the president's saying!" Hooray!

2002-03-09 01:35:09 AM
Robbiefal, your sound file is farked.

The transcript of the speech doesn't say the laughter is Bush's laughter. It could be from the crowd for all we know.

I see this one turning into a FLAMEWAR> really easily.

2002-03-09 01:36:22 AM
There.. I put the mp3 back up.

150m.com is not gonna like the idea, but screw them.

I don't think there is anywhere else where this file is (off Geocities)

2002-03-09 01:38:15 AM
sounds like he's trying to make light of the situation. he doesn't laugh, the crowd does. i'm sure others will disagree so let the flamewar begin!

2:1 odds this thing reaches (lots) hits.

2002-03-09 01:38:49 AM
Bush isnt a real bad or mean guy, but hes just a dumbass. Same thing with the Enron thing, he wasnt trying to screw people, he just didnt know he was screwing up, and now is going thru thr "Whoops, i farked up" actions.

Replace "Bush" with "Reagan" and replace "Enron" with "Iran-Contra" and we can see how history repeats itself when it comes to Republicans.

2002-03-09 01:39:12 AM
I'd like for some of you to please save this mp3 and maybe put it on another server just in case 150m deletes the file again.

2002-03-09 01:41:26 AM
Replace "Rackrent" with "left wing sheep".

2002-03-09 01:41:31 AM
Sorry Rackrent you lose. As everybody knows obvious flamebait can only be placed if your frosty posty, or "close to it" (using European Rules). Fark updates in a few hours when less people are on, so maybe you can try again! :)

2002-03-09 01:42:26 AM
Well, I'll throw a mirror up here, using the bandwidth of a now-defunct band I did the website for. The provider says the account has "unlimited" bandwidth....well, we'll see ;|

flamebait? bah. Read up on Reagan and his "implausible denials" from the 80s, then we'll talk.

2002-03-09 01:44:01 AM
Wouldn't it be cool if this somehow made more main-stream news?

at least I'd feel important (even if it would piss off the people I got the story from [Bartcop])

2002-03-09 01:44:07 AM
Alright, as much as I hate the guy, I don't think he was necessarily making light of the grave situation.

I think he did what I often do when you're in a situation you can do nothing about; there is no other course of action but to laugh.

He knows he's up shiat's creek, everyone knows he's up shiat's creek, he made a little "Man am I in deep shiat" joke, and people took it out of context.

I think if you're gonna hate the man, at least hate him for all the stupid things he's actually done to the country, and not the stupid things he's said. But, he has said some pretty stupid things...

2002-03-09 01:44:41 AM
He's not bragging at all. Check your rhetoric. Anyone who's a Farker knows that people make light of things to deflect them. It's not just something "idiots" do. It's silly to assert that Bush is "claiming" the trifecta as a victory for himself, that's ridiculous.
Rackrent: Atta boy, good job generalizing to the umptinth degree, couldn't have done it better myself.

2002-03-09 01:44:42 AM
Yawn, we elected a President with a sense of humor. Again. That's what, 7 out of 7 times since Watergate when the lighter-hearted candidate has won? I don't like him either, but humor's a big part of being Commander Badass of the Free World, and that's the one field where he beat Gore and Nader hands-down.

2002-03-09 01:45:23 AM
WE NEED CENSORSHIP!!! err...

WE NEED CENSORSHIP!!! better.

I fail to realize, though, what is so bad about what he's saying. he's a country boy, a hick, but he always put his nickel on the plate at church.

Hey, if putting him in office means getting to see all those silly faces he makes all the time, then sure! why not?

2002-03-09 01:45:42 AM
I have one thing to say about most of the previous posts, and most of the posts to follow:

biatch biatch biatch

2002-03-09 01:47:46 AM
Bush says he "hit the trifecta," implying he made a wager. What exactly did he bet?

2002-03-09 01:48:01 AM
Didn't they shoot that Dole woman into space?

2002-03-09 01:50:06 AM
Incidentally, while I strongly disagree with Dubya's policies often and generally dislike the guy, I don't really think he's bragging. You make a speech like this to people and sometimes you have to make light of the difficult situations facing the country.

2002-03-09 01:52:30 AM
Rackrent: flamebait? bah. Read up on Reagan and his "implausible denials" from the 80s, then we'll talk.

I'm sorry but doing so would mean that I would have to stay on-topic, which is against my philosophy and would not allow me to take the moral high ground when I post.

Also you have 0 posts. I'll debate you when your a real farker.

RobbieFal: Thanks for providing the d/l :/

2002-03-09 01:54:06 AM
Read at least the paragraph the quotation is embedded in before making up your mind. And the 'laughter' means that there was laughter, not that the president laughed.

2002-03-09 01:54:18 AM
Well, I've listened to it a few times now. I'd have to say he's not bragging. However, if I were him I think I'd consider firing a few speechwriters, or if he's winging it himself, maybe hiring a few more.

As Hazed_blue stated, joking about how screwed we are is something a lot of "normal people" do. But then again, getting blowjobs from someone we shouldn't is also something a lot of "normal people" do. Presidents are held to some higher standards. Clinton was wrong, and I think Bush was wrong to joke about this.

Ask anyone who's lost their job lately - they don't think it's so funny. Ask anyone who lost someone on 9/11 - they don't think it's so funny. And I'm sure the families of 30-some American soldiers don't think it's so funny.

The real question is why the hell was this joke necessary? He surely could've addressed the fact that they budget was going to have to go into deficit without the "trifecta" line.

2002-03-09 01:56:09 AM
He's right. The budget might have to go into deficit during a war, or if we had a national emergency, or were in recession. Just look at how Clinton spent a boat load of cash defending us from future terriost attacks after the WTC attack in '93.

150m really pissed me off right now.

2002-03-09 02:00:54 AM
RobbieFal,

I mirrored the mp3 file, as posted further up in the thread.

We'll see how long that lasts....supposedly it's got "unlimited bandwidth"...we'll see.

2002-03-09 02:01:00 AM
I don't think that Bush is wrong to say what he's said; it isn't the most P.C. thing to say, but he's proven that he isn't about the polls, he's about saying what he thinks. In my opinion, he's just beating stand-up comedy to the punch. Who would want to hit this kind of trifecta? And what group of Jews didn't make some sort of joke in the Holocaust? Who hasn't been in a horrible situation, to have the only smile in your day because someone made a stupid joke poking fun at themselves?

2002-03-09 02:01:13 AM
Rackrent: Excellent point. If I had one, I would have used that too. When the 6 digit user numbers are debuted, I'll make sure to use it as a flame :/

2002-03-09 02:03:32 AM
BaShildy: my goal is to be in the /. troll library one day

2002-03-09 02:20:21 AM
Heh, but they didn't get a trifecta ... they guessed in in the exact opposite order ... and who is the we - is it the royal "we" or Bush and his puppet masters? Either interpretation makes perfect sense ... maybe after the audio clip ends he said "Hah, I just said a deacute;ja vu."

2002-03-09 02:21:23 AM
oops, déja vu ... I'm taking after my leader by trying to look smart and comming off stupider.

2002-03-09 02:23:50 AM
Rackrent: It seems I have misjudged you. You are obviously a valuable asset to our community. As a present, I dedicated my recent Weeners on Slashdot to you :)

(On-Topic Mode)
I'm glad Bush said this, although some people may take offense to it. I thought it was pretty cool when Dole started to show his sense of humour after he lost the election. If he showed it earlier, he may have won. Too many politicans are bought these days. Showing any sense of humour shows that at least you have some of your soul left.

The fault lies with us as well. Since we over-scrutinize our politicans, they are careful to make any move that will cause them to drop in the polls. This is started by some media organization trying to get the hot scoop and boost their ratings. Since everything is Republican Vs. Democrat now-a-days, maybe the problem will disappear if we dismantle the two party system. I myself am a registered Libertarian but consider myself to be an Independent. If we vote in people that are Independent or are part of a smaller party, maybe this problem will go away since it won't be 1 vs. 1 / Good vs. Evil / CNN vs. Fox News anymore. The negatives of candidates might be less covered as there will be more positives of a larger candidate base to cover.

Bah I'm 19, I could be totally wrong :/

2002-03-09 02:24:20 AM
It didn't sound like he was making a joke. He actually sounded almost sad in the begining...
