. . . must . . . have . . . caffeine . . .

2002-03-07 10:06:25 AM
Why do they use caffenine in Coca Cola? Come on now, everyone knows this. If they would have just left the Coca leaf extract in there, everyone would have been fine.

"I swear, honey. The hooker's just here to 'flavor' our lovemaking."

Whatever.

Did anyone else think those scrolling web controls were annoying?

I don't see how this is unlikely, but I agree that caffeine is doo-doo.

If you don't belive that caffine serves some purpose as flavoring.. go try a caffine free Mountain Dew.

I did, they taste farking horible.

Fb- You think caffeine is doodoo but you drink Heineken? My god man, that stuff is pish.

agreed, Heineken = dutch urine.

anything the Mormons think is evil, is good in my book.

2002-03-07 10:30:20 AM
Maybe if you flavored your Heineken with Coca-cola....? Or perhaps let leaves from a tea tree fall accidentally into the brew and try it because of the delightful aroma.

2002-03-07 10:33:14 AM
Has anyone tried Water Joe? It is that caffienated water. I think it might have tasted funny, I do not remember.

2002-03-07 10:35:09 AM
Yeah, it does have a flavour. But let's be honest, it's just like the beer flavour. The only people reason people like it is because they've tasted it so long for its other qualities. Of course the corporate sluts want to keep a clean image so they say that it's a "refined flavour" or whatever.

2002-03-07 10:36:38 AM
www.thinkgeek.com has plenty of caffine flavored products...oddly enough under the "caffine" section

2002-03-07 10:40:11 AM
my ass! Caffine-free Coke tastes way different than Regular Coke.

2002-03-07 10:42:06 AM
I swear they make caffeine-free and diet colas take like fizzy water/dish soap respectively just so they can keep the addicts on caffeine and sugar. It's evil.

My husband just suggested that I get professional help to get over my caffeine addiction (sodas only). I quit every 6 months or so, generally after feeling sick to my stomach for 2 weeks. I go through 4 days of withdrawl headaches, naseau and fatigue and then I'm fine physically but the craving is still there and I'm back to drinking again in less than a month. Man I'm glad I've never tried cigarettes or any other drug. I think I'd be dead now.

They add caffeine for flavor? Yeah right.

Unlikely?
How 'bout Obvious.

Have some water joe right here-- very little taste, but my body tells me its caffinated.

There is a definite aftertaste-- kinda like no-doze, coffee, etc..

I am an addict of caffine.
Thats my own damn fault.

I don't care if they put Caffiene in soda because it has a pretty mouth, it just better stay there.

I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't do illegal narcotics, My wife makes sure I don't have sex, but I do drink 6-8 Cokes a day.

I also watch wrestling.

2002-03-07 10:54:19 AM
It is an obvious cover up. All we need now is an annoying "TRUTH" commercial to expose it.

2002-03-07 10:54:23 AM
why is this unlikely? it's completely obvious. most alkaloids are bitter; caffeine is definitely bitter.

2002-03-07 10:55:03 AM
All hail the mighty C8H10N4O2, the benevolent chemical that brings such light and happiness. Caffeine is life. That gentle combination of Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen is a tiny bit of heaven on earth.

Mmmmm, Caffeine, that bitter goodness.

2002-03-07 10:57:51 AM
Tried that water joe a few months back, made a pot of expresso with it. Not bad, mixed half and half with vodka can keep you upright and awake for a good 15 minutes.

2002-03-07 10:59:28 AM
sure caffiene has a taste. don't most things? but, no. it couldn't have been put in there to replace the stimulationg effects of ...let's say....coca?
i founf the little aspartame rant (link to the right on the page) to be hilarious! actually trying to say it's safe when even Coca -Cola itself was originally against it...
fact...up to a full 10% of the volume of an aspartame containing soda either self converts (in the can) or isdigested into wood alcohol and formaldehyde.

2002-03-07 11:17:54 AM
Yamas: "Coca-Cola Light" appears to be what "Diet Coke" is called in some other countries.

ThatScottGuy - NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

or worse yet the annoying 3 minute theatrical release of the Truth commercial that plays before every freaking movie you want to see.

Caffeine is a possible carcinogen, then again so are most things...

2002-03-07 11:41:34 AM
Gawd I hate those Truth commercials. They musta spent some money on the one with all the airplanes over the beach I bet.

2002-03-07 12:02:21 PM
I thought Coca-cola light was that half and half stuff...half regular half diet

2002-03-07 12:02:57 PM
caffiene is whatever they say it is.......

I will take in any way they give it.

2002-03-07 12:04:27 PM
Rosalea: Man, I wish they made that. Whenever I get a fountain soda, I always add a splash of Coke to my Diet Coke. It helps take the edge off the aspartame.

2002-03-07 12:07:48 PM
Pickle:

I've not seen those. Just another reason for me to wait until a movie is out on DVD. I hate those farking commercials so much I can't get to the remote fast enough. And I don't even smoke.

Coca Cola has caffeine. The Crystal Ball told ya so. Can someone ask the Crystal Ball if beer contains alchohol ?

2002-03-07 12:27:01 PM
That's a professional spin-job right there. That's going in someone's resume: "I wrote the caffeine is a flavoring blurb for Coke's website. Let me bring the magic to your PR nightmare"

2002-03-07 12:36:22 PM
From the carbonation section: "If you're like me, one of the delights of opening a soft drink is the instant effervescence. Whenever I pop the top on a diet Coke - my personal preference for mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshment - the fizzy reaction pleases my senses and assures me that carbonation is present, just as expected."

Yeah, and the next line they're probably going to try and feed us is that all those medical experts weren't paid obscene amounts of money for those statements.

I guess it's just convenient and profitable when a company can sell an addictive substance that has a legitimate use as a flavouring...

2002-03-07 12:49:02 PM
Diet Coke / Coke Light still makes you fat. Keep in mind that a few hits from this search turn up an urban legend about aspartame causing about every disease - snopes, the second hit in the list, has a copy and shows how it is wrong as always.

Water Joe has very little bitter taste. They hired a chemist to cover the taste of the caffeine. (Dissolve a caffeine pill in water and try it, then try Water Joe - I haven't, but I suspect Water Joe is a lot less bitter).

I think soda is consumed mostly because of its ubiquitous nature. It is slightly addictive because of the caffeine (but most beverages have it nowadays). But I think it is mostly consumed because it is EVERYWHERE.

2002-03-07 12:55:28 PM
Flavor is the only reason for using caffeine in these products. (RIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT!)
Have to put something in it to stoke that addiction, can't put cocaine in it anymore....Caffine it is! Yea!

I would believe that it serves two purposes. But I think the main purpose is in fact flavor.

Naturally, caffeine is a slightly addictive drug, but how common is it? Presuming you became addicted to caffeine, you could find it in most every product at www.bevnet.com, tea, coffee, chocolate (I think), caffeine pills, and many other places. The only reason you would have to continue drinking Coke is because you like the taste. There is no special "coke brand caffeine" that makes you addicted to coke products.
