You breathe in and ingest the chemical waste you have saturating your environment, not the chemical waste you might like to have saturating your environment.

It doesn't matter how clean your water and air is, you can still be poisoned. It's a matter of toxicology. GBTW.

Now shut up and eat your three-eyed fish.

Not [image from img.fark.com too old to be available] at all.

Nine times out of ten, this sort of thing actually isn't that tremendously unhealthy.

Its the one time out of ten that it makes the news, though.

Several Assembly members have called on the state Department of Health to investigate the elevated incidence of respiratory illness found among people living near hazardous waste sites and along the Hudson River.

I think they should all move there themselves for a while. See how it all works out.

I think living near lawmakers is bad for your health

Sure, my toenails and fingernails are falling off, but my glowing urine makes it easy to pee in the dark.

yayamon: I think living near lawmakers is bad for your health

I second that motion. All in favour of labeling lawmakers as toxic waste and thus incinerating say 'Aye' !

/Aye

Well, if given a choice, I'd prefer not to live near hazardous waste sites. And what Weaver pointed out seems to be worth pointing at again.

If it's related, I'd sure like to know. Especially if I lived there.

Which I don't. I happen to live by a bay with elevated levels of mercury, so I'm perfectly safe if I want to go swimming, fishing, or whatever in it.

*coughs*

/goes back to work

Love Canal didn't seem to work out too well.

2005-01-13 01:54:00 PM
I'm guessing there's a reason it's called hazardous.

Watch "A Civil Action" with John Travolta. This crap happened 15 miles away from my house.

Thank God I dont live in Woburn.

2005-01-13 01:58:13 PM
It's hazardous 'cause attractive and successful African-Americans live near it.

Someone should research the Housatonic River/Birth Defect connection.

Ah, Poughkeepsie...

"Let's put our water intake a few feet up river from the sewage processing facility. What could possibly go wrong?"

Striped Bass with a little PCB sauce, tasty.

Love Canal didn't seem to work out too well.

Neither did the Hershey Highway. In fact, some people claim that's the main reason for the rapid spread of HIV in the early 80's.

2005-01-13 02:09:50 PM
lets move congress into Yucca mountain & find out.

2005-01-13 02:11:01 PM
Well, the lawmakers should just take up residence there and report back periodicaly

I shall wait for the results, and formulate my opinion at that time

When a brown person poisons the water supply, it's terrorism.
When General Electric does it, it's business.

Polychlorinated biphenyls. The name conjures up romantic imagery. I think I'm about to crack a fat. . .

Hey, another bunch of spew by people that know nothing about environmental sciences. It's not even remotely obvious as properly stored toxic materials are not dangerous to the surrounding area. A scientific investigation is the only way to know if there is a problem.

downstairs
Nine times out of ten, this sort of thing actually isn't that tremendously unhealthy.

but the little bits add up to a big nasty cocktail. Not-point source pollution washed into the watershed from any one rainstorm in an area with high percentages of impervious cover doesn't do much, but the buildup over time renders whole systems unusable. Ditto for low grade "not tremendously unhealthy" spills.

I should really read my posts first....

"The five Assembly members, all Democrats from Rockland and Westchester counties, sent a letter dated Tuesday to Health Commissioner Antonia C. Novello."

Wouldn't it have been more effective to take Novello down to the Hudson River and ask her to drink a glass of water dipped from it?

No No Bukharin.

When a brown person pollutes the water its because he's oppresed and doing what he has to to feed his family.

When an American or European pollutes the water they are selfish, greedy bastards, raping the environment.

Please keep up with the rhetoric.

2005-01-13 02:36:43 PM
Bukharin and TurnerBrown

Whenever anyone, white or brown (like the shipbreakers of India) pollutes the water for profit they are "selfish, greedy bastards, raping the environment" Just because they hope it doesn't kill anyone doesn't make it ok...if they DID hope it killed someone then...well...yes, they would be terrorists.

Both have tickets to hell, one just sits in first class.

Pretty much agreed, I was just flaming the troll for fun.

Where I would disagree is that everyone does a cost/benifit analysis on how and how much they will pollute (every living thing "pollutes)and there can be honest disagreement on the best way to minimize the negative impact of said pollution.

Also, where people pollute by not knowing that they are causing serious polution isz also less evil.

2005-01-13 02:52:00 PM
TurnerBrown

Yeah...I sort of had in mind those folks (you know...THOSE FOLKS....they do everything...sorry, I am making fun of myself for not being specific, ignore me) who do a cost/benefit for their company and decide the probability of getting caught and/or the cost of lawsuits would be less than the increase in the profit margin created by not clearing their output of pollutants.

Also, where people pollute by not knowing that they are causing serious polution isz also less evil.

OK, you're right...less evil...but not less worrisome to the "big picture"

They should put the nuclear waste for the nation at the nations capital in D.C. Next to all the overguarded cowards we call politicians. It would be very secure.

You know...THE BIG PICTURE!

\I have got to stop making fun of my own posts.
\\There are plenty of other Farkers to do that for me.

3rdGen,

I knew who you were talking about, but threw my two cents in for fun/conversation starter for the thread. I wont get too deep into it myself but thought I would get it rolling some.

/Goes back to playing with the shiny stuff from inside my thermometer.

Bukharin: When a brown person poisons the water
supply, it's terrorism

Caucasians are not brown. Yet They are Muslim though (Chechnya is the Caucasian heartland).

Anyone who is so confused as Bukharin as to skin
color, ethnicity and religion is simply put, a moran.
