Man, I farking hope it's harder than shiat to get a flying car licence, cause if so, I'm getting a farking M1A2. fark the gas mileage. I mean, drivers suck as it is...

/oh yea, heh. Longhorn, farkit, I'll stay with XP, and prolly head to linux, and use Windows for games.
//said fark way too much, feh.

2005-01-08 12:00:50 PM
Half that list was frickin gaming or gaming related. What I want to know about are the products that are promised that would actually change something that matters, like when the hell will Verizon get DSL to my area of the state!!!!!!

This site amazes me. Is it the same people wishing the death of handicapped kids in stairwells who are anxiously awaiting the release of a farking game called DukeNukem? I can't think of any bigger waste to the gene pool than people who look forward to a Duke Nukem release.

2005-01-08 12:02:03 PM
Flying cars would suck... especially here in Florida... with all the old people... and farmers markets...

2005-01-08 12:03:24 PM
Looks like MonkeyFro got caught trying to be the Weeners. He keeps moving down the list!

Anyway, I have to agree with the Duke Nukem...it's mid 90s vaporware that likely will never see the light of day. If it does, it will likely die a slow agonizing death in the $9.99 and less bin.

2005-01-08 12:05:49 PM
The filter caught me too!! HA HA!

You can probably guess that I said that MonkeyFro was attempting to be "le premiere person qui parle un comment"

/bad french, sorry.

Sorry, Wired, you lose. Gran Turismo 4 was released in Japan on December 28th and has been selling like hotcakes ever since.

NiteClerk: there is a pill for hair loss now.

I think part of the problem with DNF is that 3d realms keeps starting over with every new engine that gets to the market. Im still not sure whats kept them alive this long. Duke is way old, and the handheld version isnt so new either. I think what they need to do is look at what happened with Daikatana. That bit of vaporware was hyped and almost immediately relegated to the bargain bin.

2005-01-08 01:21:01 PM
They can have Duke. I am waiting for the new Shadow Warrior to come out! Wooohooo!

"/You see we lease this back to the company we sold it to. That way it comes under the monthly current budget and not the capital account."

Admistrator: A birth? What sort of thing is that?
Docotor: That's where we take a baby out of a woman's tummy.

Mother: What do you want me to do?
Doctor: Nothing, you're not qualified.

"Steven "Harley" Davidson said, "If Microsoft keeps on pushing back the dates for Longhorn and removing features from it, they might as well just promise to bundle Duke Nukem Forever with the OS.""

Smookyfufu beat me to it, but I agree, one of the best quotes in the article.

Voice recognition should have been here by now. Didn't IBM drop half a billion into it or something a while ago? I, for one, would like to be able to say "computer, play SomaFM" and have the stream start right away. But noooo... I have to move my mouse pointer over to an icon and click not once, but twice!

Haha! Go on, Live in the past! I click ONCE!

Part of me also wonders if the fact that Duke Nukem 3D is still on the shelves of my local Future Shop is somehow related to this DNF scam.

2005-01-08 02:39:21 PM
I've said this before, I'll say this again. If it wasn't for AMD, we'll be drooling over the brand new PII 450MHz chip.

Oh BTW, I never have any problems with Win98 SE.

JackMoore: So does that mean that the Phantom is now just disappointing?

The Phantom is actually a huge scam.

HardOCP recently had a lawsuit levied against them for exposing that the CEO and board are nothing but family members, and the CEO has already driven several companies into the ground.

1. Get a couple investors in a fury over video games on demand
2. Use and flavor of XP and take off the shelf games.
3. Mold a case and put the games on the HD with generic components.
4. Market like crazy.
5. Collect your CEO salary while all employees are not being paid in lue of stock.
6. Crash the compnay claiming you never got the funding you needed.
7. Walk away with a mil or two.

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTEyLDI=

Article the details the company headquarters that resides in a strip mall with only a P.O. Box

A list of the CEO's business positions. All failed of course.

Classis stock pump and dump.

Really, how hard would it be to build a custom case and put generic components in it? Display some games at CES and wait for investors to pour in.

Microsoft's successor to Windows XP was originally promised to ship in 2004, though the company subsequently pushed the launch date to 3015 or something. Obviously, Microsoft won't be able to finish the code until it's had a peek at Apple's forthcoming Tiger.

pwned.

2005-01-08 03:18:06 PM
A kid in high school obsessed with Duke could have graduated, gone through college, gotten a few years of industry experience, and then actually started WORKING on his "dream game" by now. When are they just gonna give up?

2005-01-08 03:21:18 PM
Dammit, man, if you're going to rant, learn to do it right:

NASA has planned, budgeted, designed, negotiated, contracted out, assembled, launched, navigated, landed, and successfully deployed a rover on Mars in the time this game has been in development.

2005-01-08 03:22:12 PM
3DRealms is still around because they helped publish the Max Payne games

2005-01-08 03:54:33 PM
3DRealms has been making spinoff Duke games for consoles such as PS1 and GBA, and even a PC game that resembles the original games with sidescrolling action. They all suck, but I'm sure someone buys them.

2005-01-08 04:07:41 PM
I'd like to add Blizzard's Starcraft: Ghost onto that list. Talk about disappointment after disappointment.

5. ATI's Radeon X800 series of video cards

My computer must be part vaporware, as when I put it together about two months ago I put in a Radeon X800. It wasn't cheap, but it looks and performs awesome.

2005-01-08 04:27:35 PM
if you're a programmer and they send you to hell they make you write vaporware

I don't think vaporware is neccessarily a product announced that never comes out. It can also be a product that is never intended to be completed, for whatever reason.

Like I waited forever for Wizardry III -- like years d00d! But it was awesome when it finally came out, I guess my point is there is vaporware and there is heckuv-late-ware.

2005-01-08 04:47:39 PM
Say what you will, but IF the Duke ever comes back, I'll be there. I was sold the moment he actually ripped the head off that alien and shat down it's neck. Comedy gold.

2005-01-08 05:01:58 PM
I'm not a fan of Duke Nukem, and I have no intention of playing DNF if it does ever materialize. I think it would be smart of the people to not have a website up with constant updates about non-existent software. It would also be smart if they would just develope their own game engine instead of adopting and then discarding others. They've already been through Quake II and Unreal's engines. I don't know what they claim to be using now, but I'm sure it is pointless to even mention it

2005-01-08 05:04:38 PM
From article: "I will eat my left toe if this software gets released," said Wayne Bloss.

He only has 1 left toe? Or did they edit "nut" to "toe?"

2005-01-08 05:15:58 PM
Count me as another Farker who's owned an ATI X800 card for a couple of months. I mean, I had to ask for it specially, it wasn't on the shelf... but they're probably too expensive to stock as a normal item.

2005-01-08 05:29:47 PM
The software was offered as a download, but the stampeding hordes of closet Apple lovers at Slashdot crashed the servers before anyone could get it.

That got a chuckle out of me.

Well on the bright side, I guess my farkin' year and a half wait for Fable wasn't soooo bad compared to the what 8yrs of waiting for Duke Nukem Forever. I jsut wanna say this: DO NOT DELAY JADE EMPIRE ANY FARKING LONGER.

Every copy of Fable ever made should be thrown into a pit and set fire to. The company should be dismantled and those in charge of the game should be put against the wall and silenced so as never to leak information as to what the game really was. That way we can go back to waiting for it and listening to the amazing hype.

I didn't hear about the game until a few days before I bought it, didn't hear much hype more than "It'll be open ended and really long" and it still didn't live up to the hype.

/Fark Fable

Vaporizers are great, but only the Vapor Bros and their knockoffs. Good for tobacco enjoyment in office. Elsewhere I still prefer my pipe, though.

DN:F WILL be out. Just waiting for market to slow down from hype of al the diferent games the past year. Its completed. Ive seen it, ive played it. 3D Realms stays in business because of the MILLIONS it made from selling movie rights to a major studio. I know im gonna get flamed for this but i dont give a damn. 3D Realms has been great to my family. Also, DN:F will be out, VERY soon

etheak,

Don't be an idiot. Broussard just 1 month ago asked the community on their forums for ideas of scripted actions for the Pigs...you can't implement scripted actions into an already finsihed game. And certainly not in one month.

/completed, huh? :)

TiVo announced the service at CES in January 2004, and released it Jan. 3, 2005. That was cutting it very close, TiVo! And the product still doesn't support the Mac or DVD burning!

LIAR!!!! Everyone knows that a Mac can do ANYTHING! This is libelous.

Yes, my Uncle is Scott Miller since you obviously know who George is. You dont think George was trying to mess with peoples heads in the forums?? I know they are still implementing things and changing ideas, but about 3 or so months ago( time has flown by since ive got a son now, jot for sure)there was a finished product out, it was nice, but my uncle and george DO keep scrapping the date and trying to make the best game possible. I understand people being pissed about no DN:F for so long now. Hell, Im still waiting for my damned APOGEE sweater from my uncle. LOL So trust me, i understand ur frustration, how dop yopu think i feel, i get copies of al the games 3 mos or so before the stores do. I still like playing Rise of the Triad best though

Here I am on fark, reading a thread that involves Duke Nukem, and after all this time not a single soul has made the obvious comment? Well, it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it, so here goes: Duke Sucks.

/Don't blame the messenger.

2005-01-08 09:49:02 PM
but nothing else on the list even exists in a prototype form to show the public

I think that is funny...

PearPC the actual software in that article does exist it's an open source Mac Emu which can run 10.3/.4 for us who were lucky to get the Developers DVD. I guess that guy is going to have fun eating his left nut.

As far as the actual CherryOS it doesn't exist. In fact we have already taken it up against Maui-X about the software. There is a line of code that labels Hard Drive image the term "a Shrubbery" in it in German because the main developer is German and he couldn't think of anything except the Monty Python movie when was writing the code. This code also exist in "CherryOS".

CherryOS will never exist seperate of a reskinned PearPC if at all. For more information PearPC is HERE

Voice recognition? My car 'understands' more than 600 terms, i can control the radio, cd player, navigation system, climate control, etc, all by voice.. it hasn't screwed up on me yet, even when i was having a real bad cold.

I am busted. Will never, ever trust the "Find on this page" function again. I swear I looked for Duke sucks, and found no hits.

Make that, "Explorer Sucks."

But everyone knows that already.

Yay, an article quoting a bunch of internets who have done shiatall in the way of software development.

"This is taking way too long! I want X now!"

"Hehe, maybe Longhorn should be called Long wait. Hehehe."

"Stupid Micro$oft (teehee)! I don't know anything at all about what they're doing but I am justified in my indignance that they aren't doing it as fast as I want!"

Sounds like when they announced Back to the Future for DVD release when I was a junior in high school, it came out when I graduated, College.

You missed the point. This isn't about things taking a long time to be finished, it's about things that were PROMISED but were never delivered, and don't even come close to be.
