if a tortoise can't adopt a baby hippo without the authorities trying to interfere, what can it do?

2005-01-06 11:13:10 AM
As sappy as it is, I love it. Cheered me up.

2005-01-06 11:18:08 AM
Shouldn't it be an "ugly-ass" hippo?

2005-01-06 11:19:30 AM
awwwwwww - that IS sooo cute. The little fellow looks happy. But then again, Im not sure if that open mouth in the photo might be saying "DONT LEAVE ME ALONE WITH HIM!!"

... very slowly.

/maybe it's alright.

2005-01-06 11:19:34 AM
Hippos are mean.

2005-01-06 11:20:59 AM
it says in the article that the tortoise has become inseperable from the hippo. how does it keep up? hippos are deceptively speedy animals. not to mention the fact that they're aquatic and tortoises aren't.

I bet sex will make him forget about his tortoise friend entirely

2005-01-06 11:34:12 AM
Adorable. Though in a few years that hippo will be a good deal less cute (and more vicious).

2005-01-06 11:34:22 AM

Last week, Japanese scientists explaced... placed explosive detonators at the bottom of Lake Loch Ness to blow Nessie out of the water. Sir Curt Godfrey of the Nessie Alliance summoned the help of Scotland's local wizards to cast a protective spell over the lake and its local residents and all those who seek for the peaceful existence of our underwater ally.

I swear as God is my witness I thought turtles could fly.

2005-01-06 11:58:40 AM

The sanctuary plans to place Owen with Cleo, a lonely female hippo.

Not entirely unlike a saturday night in Lincoln Park: awaiting one's placement with a lonely female hippo.

2005-01-06 11:59:48 AM
My buddy and I once hopped in a pickup truck at night and chased after some hippos that were eating up the crops on his farm. the fat bastirds run like they're in the fat farm track meet. i shiat you not. ah, fun times..

The sanctuary plans to place Owen with Cleo, a lonely female hippo.

Maybe they could rename them Ashton and Demi?

I bet the turtle just has some sort of sick fetish for fat kids.

2005-01-06 12:34:34 PM

This story is so sweet that I now have diabetes. Thanks submitter.

Hippopotami are usually foul tempered from what I remember of the docs & such I've seen. Eventually that tortoise will get his comeuppance, whether he deserves it or not, if they are not separated. (TV never lies)

link is farked

2005-01-06 12:55:51 PM
I would keep an eye on that hippo. Hippos are vicious bastards anyway, and this is how John Lee Malvo got his start...

2005-01-06 12:57:57 PM
How was I to know it was a hippo, with all that damn makeup they wear nowadays - I thought it was just another fat chick in stretch pants...

2005-01-06 01:07:35 PM
Doesn't that make you feel all warm and squishy inside?

2005-01-06 01:07:38 PM
Tortoises are easy going animals. Our russian tortoise and one of our fat cats often hang out together...they both enjoy laying in warm patches of sunlight for hours at a time. Have to keep the tortoise away from the cat food, as he tries to eat with the cat but the food is no good for him.
