Either he's independently wealthy or some bum that managed to scrape together the money for this movie. Either way he's one strange dude.

If Lucas releases SW Ep 3 in actual Cinerama format in Technicolor *I* will line up 22 weeks before release even though the movie will suck.

Too bad article talks about the name of a theater.

He should make a documentary sitting out there.

There was a guy like this in San Diego that camped out for several weeks in front of an AMC a friend of mine worked at as a projectionist.
Well, a few days before the release SW1 they got three copies of the film that as projectionist they had to view to make sure that each copy was ok.
So after watching all three copies my friend walked out to go home and saw this loser sitting there, went over to him and said:

"I just saw the new Star Wars... Three times. See you later."

I bet the look on the guy's face must have been classic.

You know ... as hard as this may be for some to hear ... you dont' have to see a movie the day it comes out. In fact, you could wait a couple/few days for the hype to calm down some.

Well those spoiler pictures that were posted here a few days ago sure ruined a possible exciting ending for me. So I'll wait until it's out on DVD or something. But luckily I saved them just in case I forget about how it ends again.

2005-01-06 01:36:48 AM
I remember when episode 1 came out. People camped for weeks. The look on the their faces when they walked out of the first showing was priceless. Talk about time you will never get back.

I thought episode 3 had already come and gone. I guess that reveals that I'm not much of a Star Wars fan. Well, maybe I'll catch it on DVD in a year or so when I'm bored.

Anyway, is this dumbass really gonna spend 24/7 there for 22 weeks? I mean, no time away for a shower or anything? He's gonna have some horrendous BO. Nobody's gonna want to sit in that farking theater.

I won't speak as to whether this is a great plan or not, but I can attest to the utter awesomeness of this movie theatre. If there were ANY theatre in the Northwest that could salvage that franchise just by screening it, it would be the Cinerama.

Coincidence or The Force?!?!?

Still has a better storyline than episodes 1&2. I mean, its sad when the fans of the movies can make a better story than the creater.

Second KOTOR was fun, but not as great as a storyline as the first KOTOR.

Frank Herbert - greatest sci-fi author ever.

jason103

A coincidence is when two events occur which are seemingly related, in some way, dependent on the person noticing.

So, yes it was a coincidence, but that does not preclude the force being involved.

I hate the word coincidence. It means nothing. You may as well say 'stuff happened'.

On Topic:

What a dufus. Star Wars seemed kinda profound to me in 1977. It's lost a lot of relevance since then.

Off Topic:

Why the comparisons to Dune? Dune was and will remain an SF masterpiece for years and years to come. Star Wars was a "feel good" flick that is already losing its luster and they haven't even released the last one yet.

Further Off Topic:

I just finish re-reading Frank Herbert's Dune books so I could segueway into Brian Herbert's continuation of the series....

What a disappointment. If Butlerian Jihad is any indication of the prose-style I'll be seeing in the other Brian Herbert Dune books, I guess I'll just have to muddle through them. I can't believe a publisher let this poorly-written mess go to print. I guess there's no gene for good writing, or perhaps it skips a generation. Bah.

Sounds more like a sad cry for attention. "Looka me! Looka me! First to line up for the final Star Wars! Put me on the CNN! Put me on the Conan O'Brien funny show!"

I'm sorry, friend, but no one cares about Star Wars anymore. That ship hasn't just sailed, but also struck multiple icebergs and a brace of German U-Boats and is currently scattered across the ocean floor in more fragments than Oliver Stone's shattered grasp of reality. Now if you really want headlines, try lining up in advance for "Matrix 4: The Apology." When people try explaining that no such movie is being made, become insanely angry and start shouting that there's no possible way the Matrix creators could be permitted to NOT make it, and then drop to your knees sobbing and wailing.

This won't turn you into national news all by itself, naturally. You also have to be sure you're not wearing pants, are soaked with gasoline, and begin shouting "Free Martha Stewart! Free Martha Stewart with every sandwich purchase at participating Wendy's!" just before setting yourself aflame and diving through the window of your local city hall.

And if that still doesn't do it, well, don't worry about it. You're dead now, so it shouldn't bother you much one way or the other. See how this all works out?

I want to say they should make KotOR into a film, but no doubt they'd change the storyline, the premise, and intoduce new characters like they do in EVERY FARKING FILM BASED ON A GAME. Is it so hard to understand that if the game sold on its storyline, then you shouldn't change it, and if it sold regardless of it, all you'll do is piss the people who liked the game off without making a blind bit of difference?
Umm, sorry about that off-topic rant. Aaaanyway, if they actually made a film true to the game, it would most certainly be awesome. And the irony of a film based on a game based on a film being better than the films it is based off of is truly delicious.

I wouldn't pay good money to see the latest turkey from Lucas if it featured Jar Jar Binks getting BBQ'd, Senator Amidala or whatever her name is in a 15-minute, no-holes-barred 3-way covered in baby oil, and Natalie Portman herself was giving out free bj's at the end with a Montreal deli-style lox and cream cheese bagel to take home.
Ok, I would, but it better be real smoked salmon, not the salmon-flavour cream cheese crap...

Ha! Yeah, I know that when I wait until the week after the movie comes out (when there are no lines and no crowds and I don't have to end up with a seat in the crappiest part of the theater) that the quality has taken a huuuuuuge nose dive. I kick myself for what I have missed.

Actually I don't go to the theater anymore. I just buy the DVD when it comes out. I end up saving a few bucks and I can see the movie as many times as I want to. By then I also have a good idea of weather or not the movie sucks before I drop the cash. Sure I don't get to see it on the "big screen" but that is something I don't miss.

2005-01-06 08:02:11 AM
They should lower theater prices. The home theater system and projectors are getting very affordable these days. Especially with the $$ a hdtv costs. For that kind of $$ I'd rather just buy a quality projector and have a 20' screen. Aren't projectors hd anyway? You could get a tuner card for your PC also. Why would you want the small screen hdtv that costs 2x-3x the price of a projector?

With a projector, nice surround sound, and DVDs that are cheaper than going to the movies what is the incentive of going to the theater?

Frank Herbert - greatest sci-fi author ever.

Herbert had one good book in him - Dune. All the others were, imho, increasingly crappy and not worthy followups.

To this day, I'm convinced that he never originally intended to extend the Dune storyline past the first book and only did so on account of its success.

You've pretty much hit it on the head - he only shows up in the walking iron lung in the last couple minutes of the movie. However, Anakin becomes Darth Vader quite a bit earlier in the movie than before he gets splashed with lava.

Either way, the movie's going to be a couple minutes of true coolness jam-packed with lots of boring stuff.

Well, you know that's basically going to happen. They already had 3 films full of Vader doing stuff in that suit. They'll want to have Haden visible until he's just about dead. Don't expect to see that much of the Vader Suit, which is almost 30 years old now.

In Episodes 4 thruogh 6, why don't the droids know who Darth Vader is?

2005-01-06 02:50:12 PM
I'm That Guy,
Probably because they'll think he dies at the end of this upcoming episode.
BTW, when they showed a trailer during Incredibles, the audience was DEAD SILENT. Every other Star Wars preview for the last 25 year was accompanied by cheers of anticipation, in my experience. I also heard somewhere that every single scene in the next episode contains CGI. Man is it ever going to suck!
I won't see Ep. III until Lucas releases Ep. IV on DVD, in letterbox, in the ORIGINAL VERSION (i.e., where Han shoots first). In other words, I won't ever go see Ep. III.

He sounds like an interesting person, to me. I have a thing for weirdos tho. I'll bet he's thoroughly entertained, just talking to whoever, all day. Neato.

They have already release some photos and video of Darth Vader in Episode III. The suit is very much the same as what he wears in IV, V and VI.

Okay, to everyone calling this guy a loser, consider all the rapists or a drug dealers or petty criminals out there instead. Put it in perspective. He's a fanatical Star Wars fan. Yeah, hard to relate to, but loser? Not really. He's doing what makes him happy. MORE farkING POWER TO HIM! I'm envious quite frankly. I wish I had enough spare time/money to do whatever I felt like doing on a whim.

Also, a lot of these early line-ups for SW films are coordinated with charity drives (i.e., you sponsor someone to stand in line the same way you might sponsor someone in a charity run or something.) Not all of these people getting in line this early are losers. Some of them are very conscientious folks and just doing what they do. Tell me how it's any different that people going en masse to rock concerts. This is their moment to gather and celebrate the thing they love. Why dump on that?

I'm more concerned about why so many people feel the need to rip on the guy. If you don't like what he's doing... then don't do it yourself. That's real tough to do, huh?

I'm going to guess and say this guy has no job, no family and no home to be able to sit outside a theatre for 22 weeks.
If he leaves to eat or go to the bathroom I hope someone jumps the line!

I just spoke with Jeff a few minutes ago. He said he's going to be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight.

Everyone should collectively use FANDANGO and buy all the tickets for every show that day at that theater. Then he can't see it.

firstly, there's no guarantee that SWIII is EVEN PLAYING at cinerama.

second, he does shower at a nearby hotel for 15-20 minutes a day. The 'nearby hotels' are swanky as fark and at least 100 a day. 22 weeks * 7 days * ~$100 = WTF

It says somewhere he waited 22 weeks for episode 2. I waited 3 hours ... to download it.

Looks to be true, there's a big 'ol satellite truck parked in the lot behind the theater.

Every year my wife's uncle waits roughly a month to be the first one to see Big Blue Madness (UK's first basketball practice / official beginning of BBall season).

LOL.. I'm guessing that they crafted a new Darth Vader suit. I seriously doubt they're using the same one from the first three movies.

They crafted the suit based on the original, but hardcore fans will be able to tell the difference easily. Plus Hayden is actually in the suit and does not have the same build as David Prose

If you rent or buy the Star Wars DVD trillogy, they have a bonus CD and they show the actual MAKING of the Darth Vader costume. They have a 3D sculpting program with a Vader Helmet printer... sorta... You gotta see it to believe it.
