Either he's independently wealthy or some bum that managed to scrape together the money for this movie. Either way he's one strange dude.

If Lucas releases SW Ep 3 in actual Cinerama format in Technicolor *I* will line up 22 weeks before release even though the movie will suck.

Too bad article talks about the name of a theater.

2005-01-05 08:07:43 PM
He should make a documentary sitting out there.

/why not?

2005-01-05 08:10:50 PM
"And that's really what this wait is about. That complete and utter independence."
Shouldn't that be "dependence"?

There was a guy like this in San Diego that camped out for several weeks in front of an AMC a friend of mine worked at as a projectionist.
Well, a few days before the release SW1 they got three copies of the film that as projectionist they had to view to make sure that each copy was ok.
So after watching all three copies my friend walked out to go home and saw this loser sitting there, went over to him and said:

"I just saw the new Star Wars... Three times. See you later."

I bet the look on the guy's face must have been classic.

You know ... as hard as this may be for some to hear ... you dont' have to see a movie the day it comes out. In fact, you could wait a couple/few days for the hype to calm down some.

why the amusing tag? This is a textbook Dumbass award if there ever was one.

How does he shower, go to the bathroom, do anything? He'd have to leave at LEAST once or twice a day.

What does he leave all his crap sitting there and run into some store or restaurant?

2005-01-06 01:24:45 AM
If you ignore them, they will eventually go away.
There's no need to feed these tools the attention they want.

Gah, Star Wars is the most over-hyped thing I have ever come across.

/Hates Star-Wars
//Frank Herbert all the way

2005-01-06 01:24:46 AM
and at the last minute i'm gonna push his ass to the curb and take his place.

2005-01-06 01:26:09 AM

He's hoping Paul Allen will bank roll his campout in the parking lot like the orginal "We're gonna sleep on the sidewalk for months" guys did.

The weather up here HAS been nice, but to quote Captain Jack Sparrow: You've got to find yourself a girl, mate.

2005-01-06 01:28:24 AM
Tweiden's a crack up. I've gotten drunk with him on more than one occasion.

Well those spoiler pictures that were posted here a few days ago sure ruined a possible exciting ending for me. So I'll wait until it's out on DVD or something. But luckily I saved them just in case I forget about how it ends again.

2005-01-06 01:36:48 AM
I remember when episode 1 came out. People camped for weeks. The look on the their faces when they walked out of the first showing was priceless. Talk about time you will never get back.

2005-01-06 01:40:19 AM
I read this headline and thought, "I wish I could do that." I think it's time for me to die.

/Saw first showings of Eps I and II
//Waited in no lines

2005-01-06 01:40:42 AM
Hell, I'll line up a few hours before it starts, but I won't be there more than a day. That's utter idiocy.

2005-01-06 01:40:43 AM
"Which one of these buttons calls your parents to pick you up?"

2005-01-06 01:42:56 AM
But...camping out for 22 weeks is going to seriously hamper this guy's dating life!

Oh...wait...

2005-01-06 01:44:48 AM
Heh, amateur! I've already lined up for Howard the Duck 2

2005-01-06 01:45:14 AM
I waited in line to get halo 2 for 7 hrs at a best buy. I was second to my friend who got there first.....basturd

/just sayin
//not bitter

2005-01-06 01:45:50 AM
I thought episode 3 had already come and gone. I guess that reveals that I'm not much of a Star Wars fan. Well, maybe I'll catch it on DVD in a year or so when I'm bored.

Anyway, is this dumbass really gonna spend 24/7 there for 22 weeks? I mean, no time away for a shower or anything? He's gonna have some horrendous BO. Nobody's gonna want to sit in that farking theater.

2005-01-06 01:45:57 AM
what a camping whore..

/got nothing

2005-01-06 01:47:15 AM
...and to think these silly nerds are gonna wait until April or May. Amateurs!

THIS guy's DEVOTED!

At what point is this just considered loitering?

This is a media beat up.
I live near there. I spoke to the guy.
He denied he is queueing for SWIII.
He is in fact camping out for Duke Nukem Forever.

MrCheeks: what a camping whore..

With an AWP no doubt.

Spawn camping n00b!!!1!!11one!1

2005-01-06 01:54:51 AM
I won't speak as to whether this is a great plan or not, but I can attest to the utter awesomeness of this movie theatre. If there were ANY theatre in the Northwest that could salvage that franchise just by screening it, it would be the Cinerama.

2005-01-06 01:55:55 AM
GSC: He is in fact camping out for Duke Nukem Forever.
guess its time for us to join him

Coincidentally, I just came from the store with my Star Wars Trilogy DVD set - just before I got on Fark and read this story.

Coincidence or The Force?!?!?

2005-01-06 02:16:43 AM

Still has a better storyline than episodes 1&2. I mean, its sad when the fans of the movies can make a better story than the creater.

Second KOTOR was fun, but not as great as a storyline as the first KOTOR.

Frank Herbert - greatest sci-fi author ever.

jason103

A coincidence is when two events occur which are seemingly related, in some way, dependent on the person noticing.

So, yes it was a coincidence, but that does not preclude the force being involved.

I hate the word coincidence. It means nothing. You may as well say 'stuff happened'.

2005-01-06 02:21:11 AM
Cinerama is one of the nicest movie theaters I have ever been to.

Waiting in line for 22 weeks to see the next star wars movie makes you a loser, but at least he'll be a comfortable loser this summer.

2005-01-06 02:21:55 AM
They're making another Star Wars? Aren't Episodes 1,2,4,5, and 6 enough?

Who knows, maybe after all that, a basketball team will sit in front of him.

2005-01-06 02:39:25 AM
Anyone see the Man Show episode, back in 1999, where Adam and Jimmy went to the Chinese Mann Theater dressed as Darth Maul and Yoda. They were yelling First to see Star Wars!

Those guys in line were PISSED. I laughed my ass off.

Yup. Damn sad. At least some of the games keep me interested in the world of star wars.

On Topic:

What a dufus. Star Wars seemed kinda profound to me in 1977. It's lost a lot of relevance since then.

Off Topic:

Why the comparisons to Dune? Dune was and will remain an SF masterpiece for years and years to come. Star Wars was a "feel good" flick that is already losing its luster and they haven't even released the last one yet.

Further Off Topic:

I just finish re-reading Frank Herbert's Dune books so I could segueway into Brian Herbert's continuation of the series....

What a disappointment. If Butlerian Jihad is any indication of the prose-style I'll be seeing in the other Brian Herbert Dune books, I guess I'll just have to muddle through them. I can't believe a publisher let this poorly-written mess go to print. I guess there's no gene for good writing, or perhaps it skips a generation. Bah.

2005-01-06 02:58:55 AM
Wouldn't it be a hoot if this guy lined up to see Star Wars and it ends up not showing there at all but instead at another theater across town instead.?
