It's society vs. biology. Biology will always win.

Knowledge is not power. Back to the dark ages with them.

They're comparing two different socio-economic classes. Of course the poorer area has more teen pregnancy, that's the way it's always been.

Giving kids condoms and the pill to prevent pregnancy is like giving a drunk beer and car keys to prevent drunk driving. Neither group has the maturity or common sense to deal with their situation. You tell those girls to keep their legs crossed and start calling teen girls that have kids what they are, WHORES! We didn't have pregnant girls when I was in high school because of that (in the early 80s). Peer pressure and societal scorn are the best methods of preventing teen pregnancy. Also keep FB- away from the juvies.

Bullshiat. I went to a couple family planning clinics, didn't impregnate ONE teen. not one.

Will this bring the abortion partisans out of their respective lairs? Could be....

Liberals: We need more money for family planning because it will reduce pregnancy

Study: Presence of family planning clinics increases pregnancy

Liberals: Who cares

sheesh...

2002-03-05 12:47:20 PM
Another reason why people should be neutered.

2002-03-05 12:47:40 PM
Oh I know, give them kids tha condoms, and they go into a sexual frenzy!!!!!!

Stupid.

2002-03-05 12:48:10 PM
What? Surely boys and girls under the legal age of consent are not having sex... Damn storks!

2002-03-05 12:48:34 PM
I don't get it, family planning classes cause pregnencies? Here I thought it was f cking. Stupid me.

Liberals: Who cares

Liberals: We need more money to help these kids who didn't know what they were doing. It's not their fault.

We didn't have pregnant girls when I was in high school because of that (in the early 80s).

So what was it like in Mayberry High School, Opie?

How's Wally and the Beav?

2002-03-05 12:49:25 PM
13 year old girls already pregnant? God, that's crazy. Family planning doesn't work. It's like taking away the speed limit, putting huge rubber bumpers on all the cars, and telling everybody to be careful. Works in theory, but people still end up screwed.

2002-03-05 12:49:46 PM
I can't even express my lack of surprise.

I mean, come ON. They're handing out free birth control. This, don't get me wrong, is a good thing, but let's look at it differently...why are kids obtaining birth control? Where the heck are their parents? Why aren't the kids TALKING to their parents?

It's the parent's responsibility to raise their children. However, it seems like most parents these days are SERIOUSLY lacking in their parenting skills. Kids are being raised by TV and Nintendo, they're being raised by the likes of Coolio and Slim Shady.

Why not just make it so that kids CAN'T have the stuff 'till they're 18?

Are kids gonna have sex? Of course. But, you know what? FARK THEM. If they wanna play Russian roulette with their lives, so be it. I have exactly ZERO sympathy for these single, unwed young mothers who've shot themsleves in the foot by having unprotected sex. THEY got themselves into the mess by spreading their legs for some lamer who, for one reason or another, is gone. Let them suffer.

Every human being should be sterilized after producing 2 offspring. Population problem solved.

2002-03-05 12:50:28 PM
Actually, if you read the abstract, you will see that the study says that

"no evidence is found that the provision of family planning reduces either underage conception or abortion rates. Socio-economic variables such as children in care rates and participation rates in post-compulsory education are found to be significant predictors of underage pregnancies"

2002-03-05 12:51:04 PM
"For example, in the North-East, where an average of 45 girls per thousand aged 13-15 visited family planning clinics a year - the highest recorded figure - the conception rate was 11 per 1,000 girls aged 13 to 15, the highest recorded rate.

By contrast, in Oxford, where an average of only 26 girls per thousand aged 13-15 visited family planning clinics a year, the conception rate was 6 per 1,000 girls. "

Wait let me see if I got this right. You have 45 girls go to the family planning in one city, 11 get a child. In another city 26 go and 6 get a child.

Did I miss read something here. Cause this seems normal to me.

A little help?

"Peer pressure and societal scorn are the best methods of preventing teen pregnancy."

One teen to another: Dude, you're having sex? Man, that's bad. I don't wish to associate with you any further.

Yep, that should do the trick.

2002-03-05 12:52:46 PM
ASININE. Mixing cause/effect, and Vexhex's comments are an obvious symptom of how screwed up the study is.

2002-03-05 12:52:53 PM
Today's report found a higher conception rate in areas where a greater number of girls aged 13 to 15 visited family planning clinics.
Correlation vs. Causation. Perhaps more girls aged 13 to 15 visited family planning clinics in areas where conception was high? "I don't want to get pregnant like my whole home room!" Logical fallacy, no? Or how about the pregnant teens who visited family planning clinics BECAUSE they were pregnant? Like any scientific study, there are literally millions of variables absolutely out of its control.

2002-03-05 12:53:06 PM
NewsTalk: Try "Dude, she's pregnant? I can't talk to her anymore. We're going to have to abandon her as a friend. We don't normally talk like this, however, I am being used to demonstrate a point. Bear with me, dude. Dude, you're getting a Dell" etc etc

BigJuanTehFurby: THEY got themselves into the mess by spreading their legs for some lamer who, for one reason or another, is gone. Let them suffer.

What about the poor kid who has to live in poverty because mommy's a teenage high school dropout dumbass?

Conservatives always trip on this one...

Sucks to be that kid. Good think we're not all doomed to repeat our parent's failures, and...

get to become our OWN people.

My house.

2002-03-05 12:59:10 PM
Hm. And here I always thought Fb- was the leading cause of teen pregnancy. Or ANY pregnancy, for that matter . . .

I think folks who get too excited about studies like this should be reminded that you can't do science on society. There are too many variables unaccounted for. Example: "Look, my god, there are more teen pregnancies in towns where there's AIR! Quick, destroy the atmosphere!"

Lack of responsible, involved parenting is the root cause of most human misery, on any large scale. Well, that and the much-touted military-industrial complex . . .

2002-03-05 12:59:22 PM
Bisinfiniti: Maybe if abortions were provided these kids wouldn't be born into such shiatty lives and the cycle could stop. Or maybe Bush could just have all the poor dumb people marry each other because that'd fix everything...(cough).

2002-03-05 12:59:23 PM
Once again, the paper puts what it wants to say into the headline, and the truth be damned. The abstract of the study says:

"No evidence is found that the provision of family planning reduces either underage conception or abortion rates."

2002-03-05 01:00:10 PM
that's because Planned Parenthood clinics staple the condoms to brochures, right through the middle of the condom.

2002-03-05 01:00:49 PM
Damn, I meant to quote the other part where it says that:

"Socio-economic variables such as ... participation rates in post-compulsory education are found to be significant predictors of underage pregnancies"

2002-03-05 01:02:41 PM
How about "Anal Sex Ed" as to avoid pregnancy?

2002-03-05 01:02:47 PM
They think that condoms and birth control pills are magic things that will immunize you from pregnancy, STDs, and every other consequence of sex, therefore they take a pill, put a rubber on, and fark like rabbits, completly forgetting the law of averages which in this case means if a thousand people fark constantly for a month, someone will eventually get pregnant.

How about "Anal Sex Ed" as to avoid pregnancy?

This reminds me, when is Ashcroft gonna hook all women up to incubators and force them to pump out a unit every nine months? I was led to believe that this was what we were in for when he was up for AG.

2002-03-05 01:05:21 PM
Giving kids condoms and the pill to prevent pregnancy is like giving a drunk beer and
car keys to prevent drunk driving.

Can someone please tell me how giving someone pregnancy prevention INCREASES the risk of pregnancy? I hear all this crap about how condoms "make kids get laid". That's bullshiat, and you know it. How many of you walk around with a condom in your pocket, and haven't impregnated one girl? That's what I thought.

We didn't have pregnant girls
when I was in high school because of that (in the early 80s). Peer pressure and
societal scorn are the best methods of preventing teen pregnancy.

So condoms are now totally ineffective at preventing pregnancy? I agree that whores should be scorned, but honestly now.

2002-03-05 01:07:22 PM
family planning clinics are a great place to pick up chicks, 'cause you know the girls who are using them like to fvck.

2002-03-05 01:08:19 PM
Quick1:
The implicit message is that sex is ok to have when you're young. Plus, some kids are smart and will never have sex without some form of birth control around. Thus, if they don't have it, it is a guarantee that they won't have sex (maybe it sounds dumb but this was the tactic I used). I was taught of the importance of sex and how what its proper role in a relationship is and what do you know... I have no critters...

2002-03-05 01:08:58 PM
Indeed, I have a modest proposal....

2002-03-05 01:09:39 PM
When it comes right down to it, all of these girls are pregnant because they attend school, where they are exposed to boys. Planned Parenthood is not the cause. The failed social experiment here is the education of females and the permissive attitude we have towards allowing them to interact with males.

I propose that girls should not be allowed to interact with strangers unless accompanied by a male family member. We cannot allow girls to have the option to make mistakes, for their own safety. We must take away their freedoms and heap shame upon them to protect them.

2002-03-05 01:10:11 PM
And, DevineOb, I'm gonna just hazard a guess and say you've got a pretty good relationship with your parents.

2002-03-05 01:10:13 PM
Ok boys and girls, let's make a choice, which would you rather have:

Kids farking like rabbits with birth control, or,
Kids farking like rabbits without birth control?

Don't tell me no teenager ever had sex in the 50s, 60s, etc.
