Ld.Edward

I was actually trying to see if people would use the same double standard of comparing how much they donated vs. Bush in the global economy. So far nothing, but at least you called me on it.

roger_lamothe: 10 grands is pocket change for him! what a scrooge!

that @$$hole makes $200,000 a year and without expense...aside from the money he squandered out of all the businesses he ruined. He should AT LEAST be donating a cool million.

2005-01-05 05:43:39 PM
He's a hero for this?

Bullshiat, I say.

He has millions that he didn't even have to earn.

This is the equivalent of me giving $0.75 (which is most likely a larger % of my wealth than his $10,000)

Go to hell, Bush. Go to hell and die.

2005-01-05 05:43:50 PM
It's a good thing he doesnt know there's gay people in Asia or he would have chalked the tsunami up to that.

2005-01-05 05:44:03 PM
I know that I'm sounding like an asshat when I say this but...

Why the fark should we care?

Also the fact that everyone keeps saying just give cash just give cash has me a little suspicous of how much is getting skimmed

/tired of hearing about it

According to Slate magazine, George W. Bush has a net worth of around $9 million to $26 million

Bullsh*t... He is a cowboy and a regular joe who likes football and tending to his cattle...

Are people really this ignorant, or is it just some kind of mass performance art?

Despite my opinion on any of this, this has got to be my favorite quote of any thread.

Thank you, kind sir/ma'am.

I may be wrong in this, but from everything I've heard, NOBODY has donated as much as the U.S. I failed to see your point at being mad at one section of the world...

Huh? US gave $350 million. Japan announced $500 mil the next day or so. There's a post earlier in the thread saying Germany just increased its aid to $660 million.

I don't have private figures. I've looked for them before with no luck. If anyone has them though, I'd love to see.

Ok, before any liberal starts biatching about this, you have to put up at least $10,001 for the victims.

I'm all for locking Ann Coulter and Ted Rall in a room together for several months and filming a reality tv series about it.

Of course I wouldn't allow any food or water into the room so it wouldn't be a long lasting series.

The donation penis-measurement contest continues:

I read that Linkin Park donated $150k.

From http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4149439.stm

"Australia has become the biggest contributor, pledging $765m to Indonesia, the worst-hit country."

No referrence to a billion-dollar donation on that site.

However they DO say that global donations are at 3 billion. Australia ROCKS do not get me wrong. It wouldn't surprise me if they gave a billion. I just haven't seen it yet.

$765,000,000.00 US = $1,000,000,000.00 AUS

See, pontechango, I tend to discount the opinions of anyone who's beloved by one side and hated by the other. The starker the contrast, the more I discount them. It's a clear sign that they're too partisan. Ann Coulter is beloved by Reps and hated by Dems. As are Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly. On the left, Michael Moore and half of Air America (some of them are okay, Al Franken's teetering on the border- the Dems love him, the Reps only reluctantly respect him, sort of).

So who does this leave? Lemme see...
Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Anderson Cooper, the 60 Minutes people, Ted Koppel, Tim Russert.

2005-01-05 05:47:48 PM
I knew I shouldn't have read this thread. Predicatable Bush-bashing from all the usual suspects.

So lets just get all the bumper sticker slogans out of the way.

Tax Cuts for the Rich

Re-Defeat Bush

Halliburton, Halliburton, Halliburton

Bush is a Nazi

Bush lies, zillions die

Re-un-elect Bush and his Crawford, Halliburton, tax cuttin' cronies for oily blood.

/sigh

cuprous2,

It was something that was set up through the company I work for, I thought it was pretty darn cool. I'll check into it and see if I can get info for the general public and email it to you.

Always the moran defending this idiot and blindley following. Get a clue and a life.

2005-01-05 05:48:54 PM
Since there is nothing approaching what the US is giving to tsunami victims (still a very good investment in terms of diplomacy), where will the slashing be done in the budget to pay for it?

Bet it won't be corporate welfare that takes the hit.

/Pretty sure it will be the American poor who pay for it.

2005-01-05 05:49:01 PM
Does Bush actually have to spend any of the money he's making? Isn't he basically being supported by tax money while he's in office? Doesn't he have enough money in savings to survive for the rest of his life through interest?

2005-01-05 05:49:19 PM
Actually, I'd be very impressed and would rethink my opinion of him if he cancelled or scaled down his inauguration and donated the proceeds to the tsunami victims. Money's already spent? Supplies bought? Fine... box up anything non-perishable, anything that might be of use and ship it on over.
In my opinion that would show more real heart, more compassion, than anything he's done to date.

/Personally knows someone going to the inaugural ball who spent more than 10K on her gown.

2005-01-05 05:49:20 PM
In other news: Millions still fighting for survival

Copy and paste this (one day I'll learn how to do links) into your address bar:

http://www.msf.org/donations/index.cfm

and you could make your own donation to help those less fortunate than us, rather than sitting in front of their computers biatching about someone else's donation.

/emotional blackmail ?

On the left, Michael Moore...

Hell, a significant portion of the Left dislikes Moore ;-)

I'm all for locking Ann Coulter and Ted Rall in a room together for several months and filming a reality tv series about it.

Puts me in mind of a movie where these two rabid enemies get locked in an elevator together, develop sexual tension and start knocking boots. In the end, it's all love and farting butterflies.

The thought of either Rall or Coulter in a sexual way makes me want to jab a pencil in my eye.

2005-01-05 05:49:31 PM
Just FYI: Most of the money for the inaguration comes from private (Republican) donors. The only taxpayer money used goes for security, and IIRC the donors have to eventually reimburse the gov't for this too.

Still, I think it would be good to scale back the inauguration and ask the donors to redirect the funds. I mean, how many balls does this city need?

/No donating until pay day

2005-01-05 05:49:44 PM
I was taught that you never comment in public about how much you give to charity. To have your press office announce a $10,000 commitment is cheesy.

His gift, whatever amount, is appopriate. Sharing the dollar figure is not.

\that is all

2005-01-05 05:49:54 PM
it's all bush's fault.

The Saudi's already think that. The insanity of thier point of view continues to boggle the mind.

I think...they're next. At least...I hope we take them next (after having extensive dealings with the House of Saud.)

According to Slate magazine, George W. Bush has a net worth of around $9 million to $26 million

So Bush donated .0001 percent of his net worth.
That's crap.

He really, really, really should scrap his inauguration, or cut its budget in half or something. Does he really need 30 million dollars for an inauguration? NO!

I, on the other hand, donated 20 dollars.
Seeing how my net worth is less than zero, I donated infinity percent of my net worth.

Therefore, I am infinitely better than Bush. (And I didn't even have to talk about Iraq, Abu Gharib, 9/11, Drunk Driving, Cocaine Abuse, The National Guard, or making Jesus roll over in his grave/tomb/whatever.)
And just to rub it in, I am going to donate another twenty dollars so that I can be doubly infinitely better than Bush.

Oh, and Sandra Bullock Rules.
And so does Kirsten Dunst.

No. 1: He makes $400,000 a year.

No. 2: By your wealth percentage, Kerry should be donting at least $35 million dollars. Talk again when that happens

2005-01-05 05:50:17 PM
Sandra Bullock makes $20 million a picture. President Bush makes $400,000 a year

Nah, for 20M you can get Julia Roberts.

Sandra is around 12.5M per film.

2005-01-05 05:50:27 PM
Yes, that amount is more than what most people donated. However, in proportion to what he and his family are worth it's a drop in the bucket! So while he should be applauded for cotributing, he does not deserve recognition and especially not a HERO tag.....i on the other hand, donated $25...considering my savings account is a cool $184.53, i should be recognized for dontating more than 10% of my overall worth..HA!

2005-01-05 05:50:32 PM
I agree that there'd be a whole lot of people criticising Bush no matter what he did. Give it a rest, guys.

I would like to point out though that *I* supported Medecins Sans Frontieres BEFORE the Tsunami happened; I didn't wait for a global disaster to be generous :P

Bush is not giving $10,000...He's only given a press release saying so. This is PR, nothing more.

Similarly, any "pledge" of $350 million from the crooked Bush Regime actually means $15 million MIGHT actually get to the victims, and the rest of the money will be skimmed off by well-connected GOP lobbyists and bureaucrats along the way. (Just like much of the Iraqi billions.)

Here's how Bushco does Tsunami Relief.....

$100 million goes to Halliburton to do a study about how best to distribute relief funds. (to other American corporations)

$100 million goes to James Dobson's Evangelical Ministries to study how best to convert the victims to Jeebus before getting one cent.

$100 million goes to Lockheed Martin to study which plane is best suited to transport Jeb Bush to his photo-op in Indonesia.

You get the idea.

Republicans don't give money to help others unless they're damn sure they can 'game the system' into a huge payoff for themselves.

We've seen it over and over and over again.

evaned,

Like I said I may be wrong. But also figuring in all the supplies that are coming from the US, private donations, military, and civilians that have gone over. I think we've done our fair share whether we're on top or not.

You're off the sanity juice tonight, aren't you?

Nope, I've got a fresh cup of java in front of me.
Bush special envoy embroiled in controversy over Iraq debt

The consortium would then use its personal connections to persuade world leaders that Iraq must "maximize" its repa ration payments to Kuwait. The more the consortium gets Iraq to pay over a period, the more Kuwait collects, with the consortium taking a 5% commission or more.

The goal of maximizing Iraq's debt payments directly contradicts the stated US foreign policy aim of drastically reducing Iraq's debt burden.

2005-01-05 05:52:26 PM
Wow, a whole $10,000 from the man who ran the Texas Rangers.

Didn't I read that Sandra Bullock just donated one million to the relief funds. I don't think that movies like Forces of Nature are bringing in much money these days.

Bush is an asshole for even telling anyone about that.

Tax Deduction for everybody! If you are well-to-do the public labels you as a saint, unless you are GWB. Everydollar still helps.

BTW, your company may match YOUR contribution, check it out here:

Seems like a reasonable amount of compensation to pay... considering he initially spent 3 days sitting on his cowboy ass doing nothing except hitting golf balls while a chunk of Asia drowned.
