And this matters to the almighty US in what way? WTF should we even read the article? Slant eyed communists in NK and who give a fark what they are in SK!!!

2002-03-05 04:41:08 PM
Meanwhile, South Korean engineers plan on re-routing their food and garbage pipelines ...

2002-03-05 04:41:24 PM
I have never complained about this before, but I will now,

WHY? is this IRONIC?

2002-03-05 04:41:24 PM
Wow they must have a lot of Weddings

2002-03-05 04:44:36 PM
Another misuse of the "ironic" tag. Will Farkers ever learn the real meaning of irony?

This is irony...

2002-03-05 04:45:27 PM
Well then maybe south korea should start sending its garbage trucks over to north korea and dumping them.

2002-03-05 04:45:27 PM
Just send all the "junk" food Northward ... LOL!

2002-03-05 04:47:17 PM
Quick someone give the Commies some moral support and their leftovers too.

2002-03-05 04:48:55 PM
I'd put this one in the obvious category. A Maniacal communist regime isn't going to produce nearly as much as a free, capitalist country. Isn't that obvious by now?

2002-03-05 04:48:59 PM
? Paranormal news ?

So in other words, there were less dogs in South Korea than North Korea ?

And now no parent can ever say to their kids "Eat all your food you know people are starving in the world." The kids can say if people are starving, then let them eat South Korea's trash , along with this slimy broccoli you're trying to feed me !

2002-03-05 04:50:26 PM
in other news: many multi-national companies produce more income than a number of small/med sized countries!

2002-03-05 04:50:58 PM
Looks like S. Korea has learned a few things from the good old USA. Who said they weren't listening?!

2002-03-05 04:51:26 PM
Only 4 million tons? I think the people of NYC and LA waste more than that a day.

2002-03-05 04:51:33 PM
See, Communism does work.

2002-03-05 04:56:22 PM
"So in other words, there were less dogs in South Korea than North Korea ?"

I'd say it's the other way around. South Koreans are becoming fat and happy like Americans--no need to eat so many dogs. North Koreans have to eat grass. Don't tell me they're not going to eat that stray dog first. Hell, I'd eat Spot before I ate grass.

Do we have to go into the fact that N. Korea is not really communist in the true communist sense? They're a totalitarian state run by a brutal totalitarian dictator that calls himself a communist as an excuse for power. Jeesh.

2002-03-05 04:57:52 PM
By the way, I'm not defending communism. It wouldn't work. True communism would require a race/society that was willing to work for the good of society. We humans (myself included) are selfish bastards.

2002-03-05 05:03:55 PM
Unfortunately, WorldCitizen is right.

I have had a weird 24 hours. But, I did get to the polls and I did vote for Condit.

North Korea is the most demonized nation in the World. Their famines are the fault of the US climate control systems.

2002-03-05 05:13:44 PM
Totalitarianism - no!
Authoritarianism -si!

Guess the movie and win a gold star

2002-03-05 05:14:39 PM
Big deal, we waste more food than both of them produce combined. TAKE THAT, KOREAS!

2002-03-05 05:22:19 PM
You keep feeding those damn commies and theyll never change.

2002-03-05 05:24:37 PM
So now wasting food is a good thing? ok...

2002-03-05 05:27:22 PM
Take a farkin hint DAs...a free market economy just simply works better than the drap you are trying to use.

2002-03-05 05:28:50 PM
Now, that all depends your definition of 'food' and of 'waste'.

I mean, in some countries, mice are considered food, good sources of protein. Now, if you were to catch a mouse in a trap, and then threw it away. Would that constitute the 'waste' of food?

2002-03-05 05:30:47 PM
WorldCitizen

I think he was referring to the fact that you can feed dogs table scraps, and not the other way around.

LOL

2002-03-05 05:31:27 PM
WorldCitizen

IE, there are more dogs in NK to eat up any leftover food.

2002-03-05 05:51:03 PM
Damn! We haven't nuked Korea yet either? What the fark is the US government spending my taxes on then? Sheesh!

-he who stacks pork

2002-03-05 05:55:16 PM
Maybe if they didn't have the fourth largest army in the world they could subsidize some more food, buy some more, etc.

2002-03-05 06:02:06 PM
Just gotta love CAPITALISM! Even the way they do it in SK.

2002-03-05 06:16:14 PM
I don't want to start a flame war but... one of the reasons (according to the library of congress no less) that south korea went on to post war prosperity was because the west (i.e. america and europe) pumped lots of foreign aid to them in the form of investment capital. The llibrary of congress regional summary even states that the south's current economic standing would never have been achieved were it not for huge aid and loans given to them. It just makes any comparison between the north and south almost pointless for evaluating economic systems.
People use cuba for this purpose too, "look how impoverished they are 'cause of communism," but they fail to notice that Haiti, a non-communist country and close neighbor, is even worse off.

2002-03-05 06:23:56 PM
DeLaRocha:
North Korea is the most demonized nation in the World. Their famines are the fault of the US climate control systems.

yup i guess the USA is using their famine machine agains, or could it be that NK is spending to much on their army. by they way, i wonder why dog was not on the list of foods wasted.

then scroll down to...
FOREIGN ECONOMIC RELATIONS -> Aid, Loans, and Investment

(an excerpt...)
Foreign economic assistance was essential to the country's recovery from the Korean War in the 1950s and to economic growth in the 1960s because it saved Seoul from having to devote scarce foreign exchange to the import of food and other necessary goods, such as cement. It also freed South Korea from the burden of heavy international debts during the initial phase of growth and enabled the government to allocate credit in accordance with planning goals (see The Post War Economy , ch. 1).

2002-03-05 06:29:58 PM
i'll shut up now.

2002-03-05 06:43:55 PM
DeLaRocha-I'm calling you out.You aren't for real.

2002-03-05 06:44:06 PM
South Korea has twice the population of North Korea, but it also boasts an economy thirty times bigger than its neighbor

Captiolism at Work boys and Girls!

2002-03-05 06:52:31 PM
Anyhow,it'd be in North Korea's best interest if they'd stop giving national hero medals to tools and cranes and start talking to the South about reunification. It's probably not going to happen, but it begs the question "Why not?".What is in North Korea that is so great and important that it requires a huge military, tight controls on movement between the two states, and the constant subjugation of the populace to protect and rule?Basically, why is it worth it to the North Korean leadership to be in charge?

Jahova:

"one of the reasons (according to the library of congress no less) that south korea went on to post war prosperity was because the west (i.e. america and europe) pumped lots of foreign aid to them in the form of investment capital."

A few points of contention:

1. The Soviet Union was doing the same thing for North Korea that the West was doing for South Korea.

2. Within the same link that you provided, it states:

"There were many inherent problems in building a self-sufficient economy in the southern half of the peninsula. Most of the heavy industrial facilities were located in northern Korea--the Soviet zone--including the chemical plants that produced necessary agricultural fertilizers. Light industries in southern Korea had been dependent on electricity from the hydraulic generators located on the Yalu River on the Korean-Manchurian border; electric generating facilities in the south supplied only 9 percent of the total need."

North Korea had the bulk of the major industry, yet South Korea succeeded in building it's economy. South Korea can now afford the military required to defend its' northern border. The South Korean government lets its' people starve to keep a military in place that is little needed except to coerce the South.

It is very easy to compare the economic systems. Despite what the left wants us to believe capitalism is extremely efficient. It's all about supply and demand. Socialism is very inefficient. It's impossible for an economy that is not concerned with supply and demand to grow quickly for a sustained period of time. (Example: The Soviet Union had notoriously long lines for staple products like toilet paper, yet for products with little demand they would produce many times more than were needed.)

Class over, there will be a test on friday.

Kthulhu: how can you say I am not for real?

if I am queried, I will talk about all I remember from last night. Last night, I blacked out for a few hours outside and when I woke up, I felt a sense of knowledge. Of stuff that most humans do not know.

Condit will lose tonight, the Media has rigged the polls to defeat him 2 to 1. Exit Polls are the subtle hints that the Media is rigging elections.

North Korea lacks food because the US has drasticly altered their climate from their machines in Seoul. At least the Communists don't waste food.

2002-03-05 07:34:50 PM
hi bildo, glad you bothered to read some of that :)

"1. The Soviet Union was doing the same thing for North Korea that the West was doing for South Korea."

I don't know if that's true or not.

"North Korea had the bulk of the major industry, yet South Korea succeeded in building it's economy."

my point exactly... the sucess was achieved via billions of dollars in foreign aid from the western countries: favorable trade status, etc. not some capitalist "magic bullet." They can be as capitalist as they want but if it were not for foriegn money being given to them it would not be what it is today.

I'm not saying a command economy is any more or less efficient than capitalist, just that there is always more to the story than just
capitalism = good,
command economy = bad.

"Class over, there will be a test on friday. "

pretty well enamored with yourself huh?

Do we have to go into the fact that N. Korea is not really communist in the true communist sense? They're a totalitarian state run by a brutal totalitarian dictator that calls himself a communist as an excuse for power. Jeeshiathought that was communism, as implemented by humans. ;)

2002-03-05 09:45:55 PM
Well, that's it. DeLaRocha convinced me of his reality. I mean, the basic fact that he's in this thread posting should clue you in on something!

2002-03-05 09:46:20 PM
What's with all the italics?

2002-03-05 09:47:05 PM
Does closing an Italics tag help? Let's see.

2002-03-05 09:47:35 PM
No! It doesn't work to just go "</i>".

2002-03-05 10:16:11 PM
Living proof that capitalism is good and communism (aka North Korean dictatorship) is bad. Good map Undertoad.

2002-03-05 11:16:48 PM
It's a shame that all of the US food aid we send to the DPRK gets diverted to the military and political leaders and the ordinary peasant has to resort to eating grass and in some reports - cannibalism.

Unfortunately sending food aid is just going to prolong the suffering. If we cut off the food it might bring about the downfall of the regime sooner and save more lives than if we keep feeding them. War might be a result but even that is preferable now than a few years down the line with a DPRK in its death throws and armed with a few dozen nuclear ICBMs capable of reaching the US.

The true horror of what has been going on in the DPRK will shock the world when it comes to light after that evil regime falls.

2002-03-05 11:39:20 PM
It goes to show you that Communism sucks.

2002-03-06 05:30:49 AM
DeLaRocha-You're real in your existence. You seem satirical in your posting, however.Weather machines?
