David Banach faces charges of interfering with the operator of a mass transportation vehicle and making false statements to the FBI.

Won't be seeing that cookie anytime soon. Good riddance.

1. shine laser beam at aircraft
2. blame it on your daughter
3. ???
4. no profit for you!

Asshelmet. I swear to God, are there ANY men who can take responsibility for themselves without blaming their every fark-up on their dog or their kid?

For that matter, are there any men who would never, not even in their most juvenile moments, consider doing somethign this stupid?

Meh.

There was another one of these laser sightings reported yesterday, I believe, right here in Nashville.

His lawyer, Gina Mendola-Longarzo, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday.

I heard that if you remove a mouse's Mendola-Longarzo it will get fat and keep eating until it dies.

Dopaminergic comedy gold.

Well... laser toys are sure to be outlawed soon... before the terrorists get their hands on them

2005-01-04 01:55:16 PM
I suspected general and widespread assholery on the laser pointer thing all along.

2005-01-04 02:11:14 PM
Once again we've seen how accurate a polygraph can be.

I prefer to use the laser pointer to drive my dog/cats nuts.

2005-01-04 02:17:15 PM
Guess I've had bad aim all these years.

2005-01-04 02:17:46 PM
I want to know what the hell kind of laser he's got that can blind a pilot from 11 miles away.

CarolynLibrarian, it sounds like you've got some unresolved issues.

What harm could it possibly do to shine a laser pointer at a plane? Sounds like a good time to me...

2005-01-04 02:18:38 PM
Did anyone really actually think that this was the work of "terrorists"? It's the stupidest thing ever. Talk about an improbable shot.

2005-01-04 02:18:59 PM
The plane could laser you back if they didn't like it.

2005-01-04 02:19:00 PM
Well at least we now know the answer to all those " silver, cigar-shaped object(s)" that pilots have been seeing for eons.

2005-01-04 02:19:24 PM
At least this sounds like a story for the 21st century. Laser beams as weapons. Next it will be a laser beam shot from a flying car....that'll be cool.

/and stupid

Hi.

Most morans are men, but not all men are morans.

2005-01-04 02:21:03 PM
ahhh.. green lasers.. mmmmm... green laserz

2005-01-04 02:21:06 PM
This wasn't just a laser pointer if it temporarily blinded the pilots from 11 miles out. Either the story is false, or this is some heavy duty industrial laser.

2005-01-04 02:22:25 PM
I'm thinking these aren't the lasers you have on your keychain. More likely industrial grade lasers.

Yes, but can he hammer a six-inch spike through a board with his penis?

ZeNemo: I prefer to use the laser pointer to drive my dog/cats nuts.

lucky, my pup just stares @ me...

2005-01-04 02:25:01 PM
I think the guy is cool. The fact that you could aim a laser to hit a plane XX,000 feet in the air traveling at XXXmph and actually hit the frickin' pilots EYEBALL (measuring about 1" by 3/4") LONG ENOUGH to temporarily blind him...

...is pretty dang impressive.

(golf clap)

2005-01-04 02:25:08 PM
I have a huge laser that my brother *borrowed* a long time ago. He is moving soon and I want to get it before it gets lost in the packing. I don't want to ask him over the phone and he doesn't check email very often. Damn terrorists are really cramping my style.

This isn't a 7-11 variety laser. This one cost around $5000 15 years ago. I know for a fact it can put a tight bead on a building over a mile away and we could see it clearly at around 5 miles away. It was the type they used for concerts and stuff. I want to use if for a rave style light show that I want to build with smoke and mirrors.

Gina Mendola-Longarzo = the new laser hotness

/a$$hat - blames his kid - totally farked up

This guy deserves the tag.

2005-01-04 02:26:42 PM
I'd of blamed the fricken' sharks

A girl's gotta have her standards.

Right, Captain Spork?

2005-01-04 02:27:40 PM
FWIW, The story of Lt. Cmdr. John Daly since I haven't seen in mentioned anywhere in any article about the laser beams.

2005-01-04 02:27:42 PM
My dad is a 737 pilot out of LAX, this guy is not cool.

/I oughtta send The Captain over there to beat his ass.

Wanted for questioning

2005-01-04 02:28:54 PM
OK... why exactly did the guy feel the need to show the laser to FBI agents in the first place?

2005-01-04 02:28:55 PM
Going to jail because of a laser beam? GODHELPUSALL. This country's prisons will be full/more full if we keep putting idiots in jail instead of dangerous criminals. The system is farked up.

When laser pointers are outlawed, only outlaws will have laser pointers.

2005-01-04 02:29:19 PM
It seems to do any possible damage to the piolots you would need to lase the cockpit continuously (not just get a lucky strike) for a few seconds... At 5 miles away with a 10 foot target this is 0.02 degree precision on a target travelling 300mph. If someone could ever do this they deserve a friggin nobel prize for all the advances they would create in visual recognition and actuator control theory.

This whole laser pointer BS is just 99% sensationalism.. People are only doing it because they hear about it on the news.

2005-01-04 02:29:19 PM
What a friggin assjabber.

2005-01-04 02:29:27 PM
Maybe he bought it from http://www.megagreen.co.uk/ - They sell super-powerful hand held green lasers that can "burn a hole through a plastic cup"

And if terrorists were going to use lasers to blind pilots they would use IR lasers so that the pilots wouldn't know about it until they were blind.

2005-01-04 02:29:32 PM
These green lasers have been becoming more popular for amateur astronomers over the past year or two, especially those of us that frequently use them for public outreach programs. They are quite handy for pointing out specific constellations, stars, etc.

Green laser for astronomy

What has happened is that some maturity-impaired individuals thought it'd be cool to aim them at passing aircraft. Now, pilots are reporting them, and the fear-mongering media is framing the reports as possible terrorist threats.

//nothing to see here, folks...

Yes, clearly sexual assault is the best way to address this incident.

2005-01-04 02:31:56 PM
You just can't get away with anything these days

2005-01-04 02:32:32 PM
Feds use this as an excuse to ban the wickedly powerful handheld lasers now available.

Entire rave/club scene bummed.

No terrorists stopped.

2005-01-04 02:33:13 PM
I think it was the sharks with laser beams attached
