I think submitter is wrong about the number of dead in the hurricane's...

/just sayin
2005-01-04 10:11:48 AM
Where were you hiding during the summer of 2004, submitter?
2005-01-04 10:20:18 AM
as of Ivan.. from National Geographic.. Ivan inflicted massive damage and added to Florida's 2004 hurricane death toll, which now stands at more than 70 people.

headline still makes a good point.
2005-01-04 10:22:43 AM
The Jeb is a bright guy. He should be president.
2005-01-04 10:25:44 AM
not to mention the number of people missing in Florida after the hurricanes, and will probably never be found.
2005-01-04 10:26:08 AM
Master of the Obvious!
2005-01-04 10:27:53 AM
Yeah, people died in Florida during the last Hurricane. As a southern Broward County survivor of Hurricane Andrew and native Floridian, all I have to say is Jeb Bush isn't fit to lick Lawtin Chiles' dead asshole. Thank you.
2005-01-04 10:49:16 AM
"We had nothing compared to that," Bush told The Associated Press at Bangkok's Don Muang air force base. "When you have 150,000 people who died over 11 countries, that goes way beyond what anybody's experienced in our own country."

I'm not a Jeb Bush fan, but I don't see anything stupid about what he said. The comment will be translated into Thai by AP Thailand, and appear in Thai newspapers for the benefit of Thai people, who probably know as much about North American natural disasters as Americans know about SE Asian ones.
2005-01-04 10:53:40 AM
I'm not sure of the exact number but there were a good number of deaths in P-cola after Ivan and that was just one of 4 storms, so may wanna get facts straight (still nothing compared to what happened overseas). Why they sent our gov., I don't know.
2005-01-04 10:54:33 AM
Walkin' Lawton was as big an incompetent boob as could be. Just because he was a 'good ole boy' didn't make him effective. Jeb has been a much better Governor because he's been willing to take on many tough issues that were ignored by many past office holders.
2005-01-04 10:59:11 AM
Honestly, what do I give a rat's ass about what the governor of Florida has to say about the tsunami victims?

He's posturing for 2008. The shiat creeps me out.
2005-01-04 11:05:51 AM
I hate the guy, but he said something that was true and possibly unpopular. He deserves props even if they don't make up for his past sins.
2005-01-04 11:07:32 AM
harrywalby: Why they sent our gov., I don't know.

It's the first campaign stop for his '08 run.
2005-01-04 11:11:22 AM
Lookout, math major comin' through.
2005-01-04 11:13:13 AM
According to the Associated Press, the four big hurricanes of 2004 killed 117 people in Florida.

Liberal media for 500 Alex...
2005-01-04 11:25:09 AM
The real question is if we'll get a politician with the guts to admit that 9/11 looks a lot smaller these days after hundreds of thousands die in a tsunami.
2005-01-04 11:25:47 AM
Counting has never been one of Florida's strong suits.
2005-01-04 11:25:48 AM
Why they sent our gov., I don't know.

Because he's a person who's had experience, infrastructure and politics-wise, with natural disasters in the past year?

Yeah, the scope is WAY different, but to ignore his possible contributions based on what he's probably learned last year just due to the fact he's the Prez's brother is assinine.
2005-01-04 11:26:53 AM
He deserves props even if they don't make up for his past sins.

Which sins, exactly?
2005-01-04 11:27:04 AM
I guess the people who wear and can afford the designer clothes are more important than the people who make them while working for pennies and can't.
2005-01-04 11:27:29 AM
If Clinton had said it, it would've been labeled "compassionate," "sensitive," and "understanding." I mean, come on, what could Jeb Bush say other than "I'm about to kill myself and my entire family" that would make Fark shut up?
2005-01-04 11:27:32 AM
Yeah, bause nothing outside of florida was affected by those hurricanes, it's not like it caused massive flooding and landslides in Haiti, killing thousands, or anything.

Not that the people of the states aren't blind to the rest of the world unless it's an event large enough to affect the rotational speed of the earth either, huh?

/stupid is as stupid does
2005-01-04 11:28:28 AM
How many people die in those countries if the same hurricanes hit them though? Yes, the death count is much higher, but Florida has built in plans to deal with these problems
2005-01-04 11:28:35 AM
I always think of John Stewart saying, "With a governor named Jeb, do you even need schools?"
2005-01-04 11:28:57 AM
Jeb Bush says his Brother (0 IQ) pales in comparison to Paris Hilton (15 IQ)
2005-01-04 11:29:14 AM
Anyone named Jeb should not be in charge of a convenience store, much less an entire state.
2005-01-04 11:30:11 AM
Hurricanes and millions of $ in damage are the closest thing the U.S. has to the tsunami + brother of president = trip to Asia to be figurehead of U.S. diplomacy.

I don't see the big deal; don't particularly like or hate Jeb, think it makes kinda sense to send him.
2005-01-04 11:30:17 AM
This thread needs that Captain Obvious pic.

I'm pretty sure we would have something to add if he said that...
Like, "go ahead", or "say hi to Satan for me" or something involving a bunny and a pancake...
2005-01-04 11:31:13 AM
Jeb Bush's geographical knowledge (tsunami in South East Asia) far exceeds George Bush's geographical knowledge (Sue Nami lives where now?)
2005-01-04 11:31:19 AM
I bet more orange trees were killed in Florida....
2005-01-04 11:31:35 AM

I blame the terrorists.
2005-01-04 11:33:01 AM

"BANGKOK, Thailand Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that his experience in last year's hurricanes help him assess the damage in Asia's tsunami catastrophe, but that the American disaster paled in comparison to the Asian one."

One country's very like another,
When your head's buried up your arsehole, brother !
Jeb makes dumb statements above the coastline, sunshine.

You know, the constant ripping on Florida and Bush in particular is growing older than my shiatty underwear.

No governor in the country has had to deal with more Natural Disasters than Bush. Relative or not he was the right person to send on this trip. He understands the complexities of rebuilding, the politics involved, etc.

Of course there is no comparison between the tsunamis and the hurricanes but who in the World has experience with what the Indian Ocean countries are going through.

Hell, who should they have sent?
2005-01-04 11:33:34 AM
thedarkpenguin: The real question is if we'll get a politician with the guts to admit that 9/11 looks a lot smaller these days after hundreds of thousands die in a tsunami.

I haven't heard more than a handful of people in the first week after 9/11 admit that, "hey, there were 40,000 people that worked in the Trade Towers. 3,000 died. This was an order of magnitude smaller than it could have been."

But that's unpatriotic. Why do you hate America? One of our dead is worth a hundred of theirs.
2005-01-04 11:33:39 AM
StretchCannon: The Jeb is a bright guy. He should be president.

Isn't that the plan? Why else is his brother taking him on a high profile foreign assignment?
2005-01-04 11:33:41 AM
Oh, goodie!!

A Bush-bashing thread!!

You don't see that every day.

2005-01-04 11:33:52 AM
What a jackass statement. You're talking about 2 totally different events. Comparing a natural disaster to an unprovoked attack is beyond stupid.
2005-01-04 11:33:56 AM

This thread needs that Captain Obvious pic.

Then display it!
2005-01-04 11:35:03 AM
that Clampett boy is at it agin.
2005-01-04 11:35:21 AM
Why, they should have sent John Kerry, of course-- he has a purple heart...
2005-01-04 11:35:25 AM
Of course that didn't stop the retards from pissing and moaning that "Bush didn't move fast enough in bringing in relief." It's like a broken record.
2005-01-04 11:35:39 AM
wahooskipper: Hell, who should they have sent?

You walked right into that one.
2005-01-04 11:36:00 AM
Is the scope of the tsunami bigger then 9/11? Yes

Do I still feel bad for people that cant see the difference between an act of nature and an act of terrorism? Also yes

a vote for dynasty!

Jeb definitely has a glimmer more intelligence than George, but I shudder to think that they're grooming him for a presidential run.

Even smarter than George, he's still "Governor Duh" to me.

I don't think he misspoke at all, BTW. Just underwhelmed by his Governorship.
