Clowns are neato
Clowns are fun
Clowns are loved by everyone,
Cops and commies even fags,
Everybody loves their gags

Im glad to see that the military has moved past hiring hick country bands to entertain the lads.

I want to be a Cowboy
I got to be a Cowboy
I'm born to be a Cowboy
I want to be a Cowboy
A Cowboy! Uh-huh
Tonight we're taking me fast car
Were gonna go down to the Cowboy bar
I'm gonna wait till the club is full
and I'm gonna ride the mechanical bull
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true Cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
All the Cowgirls in their Stetson hats
and their tight fitting jeans so they don't look fat
We'll all be listening to the Cowboy tunes
and stomp around like a bunch of goons
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
We're all OD'd on the Olden West
seein' who's Cowboy clothes look the best
I can ride that phony bull so damn good
Sometimes I think I'm Clint Eastwood
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
I know I'm a Cowboy deep inside
My hat band's made out of synthetic rattle snake hide
After a couple shiat kickin' Cowboy movies
I'll check out the Cowboy scene down at Zubie's
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
Find out who all fights the best
We start fights with them punks at the Cuckoo's Nest
Those damn punks are crazy (though)
and meaner than a bull at a rodeo
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
You call me an Urban clone of course
A big deal if I'm afraid to ride a horse
With a broken nose and a farked up knee
Maybe this Cowboy scene just ain't for me
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
Yee Haw
Cowboy look is the one I sought
Can't change now cause the clothes are bought
To be a true cowboy was my fate
I can't help it if I was born late
( I couldn't make it as a Punker )

The troops threatened mutiny if they had to sit through Toby Keith and the Nuge again.

hell yeah! RIP gits (and the germs too...)

From the article:

a Southern California rock band known for such albums as Hitler Bad, Vandals Good and Look What I Almost Stepped In

Shouldn't that be "who made" rather than "known for"?

2005-01-01 11:05:21 AM
What an ancient, go-nowhere-do-nothing, total-waste-of-time, snare-drum-stealing bunch of ass-clowns. Rocking the troops is so punk. What songs did they play? Hits like, "Everything Mom Said Was Correct," "Thanks, Christ, for Making Dad So Smart," or, "I Always Do What I'm Told Because That Makes Me Punk Rock In Light of the Fact That All My Hip Hop Pals Only Do So if Threatened With a Good Spanking."

2005-01-01 11:06:37 AM
also, "?"

Great headline!

2005-01-01 11:21:07 AM
...wearing a flak jacket he borrowed from the army for the tour, said before the show

So, a Punk Rock band can get the armor they need to be protected in Iraq, but the Army can't?

Where the hell is Rummy... He needs an ass-beating...

Too bad Anti-Flag wasn't invited

2005-01-01 11:56:56 AM
anti-flag is a bunch of posers

2005-01-01 12:03:17 PM
saw the Vandals in Hawaii back in 87'-love those guys!!

2005-01-01 12:06:46 PM
TemperedEdge:

So, a Punk Rock band can get the armor they need to be protected in Iraq, but the Army can't?

There's no lack of flak jackets. It's the superior Interceptor body armor that there is a shortage of.

2005-01-01 12:09:08 PM
Oh no! Not punk rock! Infidels...jihad, and all that jazz.

2005-01-01 12:11:05 PM
The Vandals: one of the few bands I didn't grow up with that I like today as an old geezer.

I'm exploding in my pants from the spirit of the Lord of Dance
The whirling dervish Son of Man
Repent while you still can!

2005-01-01 12:30:22 PM
Any politiking with Anti-Flag aside...

Really, their music just sucks to me. It's so bland.

2005-01-01 12:32:03 PM
I also hate every punk band I know of past 1990, though. I am guilty of liking the guitar on the new Simple Plan single, though.....

/ashamed

The new Sum 41 single is definately palatable, though. Yup.

2005-01-01 12:50:50 PM
So, they go from "Anarchy burger - hold the government" to "thank you for blowing up babies, US troops"

Sell outs...

2005-01-01 01:16:41 PM
I saw the video from this on the news. There were like 3 dorks "moshing" while the other 10 guys at the show snoozed away in their seats. I was wondering what band it was.

Can we officially declare punk "dead" now? Pleaeeeaase??

2005-01-01 01:18:01 PM
InsideTheKillBox - Simple plan is not punk. Sum 41 barely fits into the genre either. But to each his own I guess.

The Vandals are one of the best bands I've ever witnessed live. As for Anti-Flag, they've stopped being relevant years ago, when their new material became nothing but protest slogans repeated over and over.

2005-01-01 01:21:02 PM
Typical of the downward progression in punk. Back in the day, when a band sold out, it joined a major label. Now, when they sell out they go to work for the government.

Except for Rollins, I suppose.

2005-01-01 01:22:42 PM
BizarreRecords

Can we officially declare punk "dead" now?

To misquote the post-punk band Bahaus,

Punk is dead.
Punk is dead.
Punk is dead.
UNDEAD UNDEAD UNDEAD UNDEAD!

Take a look at the Vandals website; has a day by day journal of their travels in Iraq ...

Click Click

/Wish I was Pat Brown.

Speaking of punk, an awesome song just came on from the genius punk/rock/traditional Irish fusionist Shane MacGowan:

Got pissed in Letterkenny
With darling sporting Jenny
Spent me very last penny
And we made it in the press

Husband caught me in the bed
Tried to shoot me in the head
I had to swim the stream
To get the Donegal Express

"Come heah! You f*ck!
Come Hell or high water..."
"I might've f*cked your missus,
But I never f*cked your daughter"
Fa-diddle-dee-da....

In every region
it seems there's a legion
of impatient close talking slime
that cut in line
Barge me with your walkin'
spray me with your talkin'
I am the ambassador
of kick your assador

What's your affinity
for my vicinity
There's plenty room here
in your country
It's just etiquette
to use deodorant
Maybe smelling bad's the way you choose to represent

Boozy and stinkin'
I smell what your thinkin'
I just need a little more space Get out my face
Barge me with your walkin'
spray me with your talkin'
Back the fark up ass hole
shut your bread & cheese hole
Tryin' to make myself clear
give me just a foot here
You offend my sinus
I'll kick your royal highness

I'll see your Euro-barge by friend
and raise you one Ugly American

punk is dead

2005-01-01 01:49:36 PM
the vandals are awesome. according the the author of the article though, they only achieved brief fame when vin diesel quoted them in that awful movie XXX

2005-01-01 03:16:33 PM
haha. silly vandals. good band, i liked them back in the proverbial day, but on the record: A. anti-flag is nothing but stupid sensationalistic lyrics just to bother someones parents over bad pop punk chords. it's PUNK. STOP HARMONIZING. and B. punk rock died the first time a thirteen year old said "punks not dead"

/obscure?

2005-01-01 03:20:33 PM
Awesome. A punk thread. Time to add my two cents and give the bands I have respect for a little more word of mouth.
Give me some Refused, Raised Fist, or other swedish hardcore. That's the strongest anarchic punk out there as far as I'm concerned. Refused's final album was a punk rock manifesto/ brilliant work of art. Or give me some Bad Religion: old or new (although I prefer old). As for newer american punks, Union 13 springs to mind given their individual sound, insane speed, discontent in complacency, and political/social commentary. They definitely do things their own way all the while having a strong message to back them up.
Punk's not dead. You just need to know where to look (not on MTV and not on the radio, thats for damned sure).

My husband is in Iraq, his second holiday season in a row...I am thankful for anyone who goes over to entertain the troops. As for Rummy....last year when he visited he refused to walk anywhere without someone first putting down gravel so that he didn't get his precious shoes dirty!

2005-01-01 03:29:39 PM
i saw the Vandals play here in Houston like five years ago, they were opening for Sum 41 but the Vandals stole the show.

2005-01-01 03:37:30 PM
So you've been in charge for a year or two and you know you've seen it all
Well you'll go far in Daddy's tank but back West you're type don't crawl
Playing ethnicky rap to parade your crap
Got a five grand stereo
Complaining that you know how the Arabs feel cold and the tents got so much soul
It's time to taste what you most fear
Right Guard will not help you here
Brace yourself my dear
Brace yourself my dear...

It's a holiday in Guantanamo
It's tough here but it's life
Need a holiday in Guantanamo
Don't forget to pack a life...

You're a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leech
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass little b*tch so you can get rich while your boss gets richer out of you
Well they'll talk more with a bag on their head and electrodes on their face
Trying to stay awake cuz they think they'll die if they fall off the crate
Well now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need my son
What you need my son...

Is a holiday in Guantanamo
Where prisoners dress in black
Need a holiday in Guantanamo
Where you'll kiss ass or crack...

Rums-feld...Rums-feld...Rums-feld...Rums-feld!!!! (Repeat incessantly)

It's a holiday in Guantanamo
Where you'll do what you're told
Need a holiday in Guantanamo
Where the sun sets on one's soul...

RUMSFELD!

There was a really bad college movie called Glory Daze that the Vandals did most of the music for. Movie sucked, but the soundtrack is good stuff.

2005-01-01 03:46:15 PM
Trail Mix

Excellent tune. DK is one of my favorite bands. I also like Anarchy For Sale, Soup Is Good Food and California Uber Alles.

2005-01-01 03:50:44 PM
Wonder if they covered The Cure's Killing an Arab. Cuz I heard that nice little ditty over and over the first time around over there and EVERYONE thought it was hilarious and oh so original.

/sigh

2005-01-01 04:35:37 PM
Bad Religion fan here. The Empire Strikes First is amazing. That is all.

2005-01-01 04:39:41 PM
Fluid: That's what I do in my spare time, rip off DKs lyrics to comment on political happenings. Glad you like it!

2005-01-01 05:05:55 PM
Here is my two Abe Lincolns:

1) Vandals have always been a great band. As for the "Selling Out" comment, Vandals have always made WEIRD songs. You consider "Anarchy BURGER" a "real" "punk" song? These guys were goofy as sin, and they still are. Therefore, they never sold out. They were just GoOfY. And I honestly think it is a good thing that The Vandals are going over to play in Iraq. I am completely against the war, but those soldiers over there are someone's son/daughter. On top of that, most of them wish they could be home. Why not give them something that Rocks and is Funny?

2) Anti-Flag sucks. No further explanation needed.

3) Bad Religion is amazing. For 20+ years now...Amazing. I own every record, and they are all great. And please, for the protections of the brain cells at here, don't go into "Ep1APH Su[K5" ok? Having a discussion about a record label is like arguing over what milk company treats the cow's utters nicer.

4) Uhh... HAPPY NEW YEAR MUDARFARKERS!

2005-01-01 05:09:46 PM
Most punk today rips off the Descentents, the godfathers of pop-punk. I never had a problem with the Vandals though, Oi To The World is a classic Christmas ballad :)
