"The world is less violent" Are they farking kidding? Last time I checked, we were dealing with troops being blown-up or shot every day in some little shiathole called Iraq.

Wake 'n Bake: Faux News gives a bad name to journalists everywhere.

As a child of a family of Journalists, I have to say that Fox News is the only news source that has any credibility left

As an actual journalist, I have to say that you're a farking retard. Fox disguises opinion as news, and does not tell the whole story.

This "good news" is a load of horse shiat. A historical trend is hardly relevant to whether the year in news was good or not unless you're focusing on the trend that year. Has the world gotten more or less violent this year? Have Americans become healthier this year? No. It's worse.

Thanks, Fox News, for depressing me further.

2004-12-30 07:11:46 PM
No news is good news, and there was definitely no news in that article.

Disclaimer: The words 'no' and 'good' in the previous sentence may be capitalized at random by submitter without prior written constent at any time.

Hell, with the pollution one, we could have raised pollution levels to match 1971 statistics, and it would still have been technically accurate. Meaningless, but technically accurate.

It's called "perspective". It's available to everyone...you should try it some time.

2004-12-30 07:15:18 PM
I have plenty pf perspective: I spent one year there. Have you?

Not mentioned in the article: more choices of quality beer continue. Twenty years ago, you had to choose from a handful of troglodyte, NASCAR swills. Now, for example, my area of SW Michigan has about 7 microbreweries or brewpubs within an hour's drive!

Indeed. Regardless of our politics, location, preferences for weeners or boobies, style of dress, or taste in music, I think we can all agree that the steady rise in the quality of our beer is cause for celebration.

Seven brewpubs in an hour's drive though? I think there are that many in a one-mile radius of some of the better parts of town hereabouts.

// Utterly, completely spoiled rotten!

Wow, it's a politically contrived list. Who'd a thunk it?

2004-12-30 07:21:41 PM
Maybe it's just me, but ANYTHING labeled Straight Talk automatically raises red flags. It's as if by needing to label the information as "truthful" you indicate it's just the opposite.

And most of that was bunk anyway. Fox News is fully kneepadded, in the open and ready position in front of GW. "Please, Georgie, tell us what the news is! GIVE IT TO ME!!! GIVE IT TO ME!!! YEAH!!!"

2004-12-30 07:21:58 PM
I'm an optimist and that whole article read like a line of bull shiat to me.

Welp, Fox says the world's all OK, so I guess I can git me sum sleep...

/considering they aren't even talking about the freaking tsunamis
//and don't have any concern for anything even remotely close to reality

2004-12-30 07:24:47 PM
The world is freer. According to the United Nations, as of 2002, 70 percent of the worlds nations were holding multi-party elections...

did anyone else LOL at that one? You could have plenty of personal freedom under a hereditary monarchy, and, as Americans will soon know, vice - versa.

If there's any way to get a large meteor to destroy FoxNews, and everybody who works for FoxNews, in a fiery column of death from space, please let it happen soon.

Or maybe if Bill O'Reilly's vibrator could somehow achieve explosive fission...

...just saying, is all.

Usually I go easy on Fox News, but Balke is the journalistic equivalent of a retard with a sparkler.

2004-12-30 07:28:31 PM
Radley Balko is one of the best pundits going. He's available on Fox News not because he adheres to their politics (hardly, he's not fond of Bush and he's a Libertarian), but because they do welcome various opinions.
Balko rocks. He's one of the few opinion writers who does his homework. Unlike, say, Ted Rall. Rall is a serious asswipe. Lazy as shiat and simply posts opinion as opposed to investigated fact.
Balko spends alot of time doing his research and could pound Rall into the ground in a debate...something I'd love to see.

Hey guys, try taking a look at the world without the party-lense on.

These are fairly long term trends and have little to do with efforts of political parties. These are things that we as human beings have collectively been working very hard on for a very long time.

Please stop treating politics like its a team sport.

2004-12-30 07:29:04 PM
Aside from the 3.8 million people have and continue to die in Darfour since 1998, the tens of thousands of Iraqi women children that have been starved, bombed and sanctioned.....yea it's phuking shangrala!

2004-12-30 07:30:07 PM
Hyernel, by the way, you're clearly speaking out of your ass on this one. I've got alot of friends over at Fox. You'd be surprised how many voted for Kerry.

2004-12-30 07:32:35 PM
oh wow elrond you have friends at Fox who voted for Kerry that some how makes all their past and present moronic contributions to journalism some what better. how about buying or downloading "Outfoxed"(http://www.outfoxed.org) and just seeing how dangerous this so called "fair and balanced" network is.

2004-12-30 07:32:55 PM
How on earth can anyone defend Fox "News"? They are a informative as a bologna sandwitch is gourmet quisine.

Bush won. Get over it.

Your democracy's been raped. Get over it.

Your civil liberties are under attack. Get over it.

Black people were systematically disenfranchised all over the country. Get over it.

Here's one I saw used a lot, VideoVader, and I'm sure it was just as galling to you guys at the time:

Clinton won. Get over it.

McCartConsidering I stood behind a guy with an INSULIN PUMP in the McDonalds line today, I'm wondering what they hell they're talking about too.

Insulin pumps are used by people with type-1 diabetes, which is NOT caused by poor diet, or for that matter any controllable factors.

In fact, an insulin pump is an example of how people are healthier -- before the invention (and before recombinant-grown insulin became readily available), diabetes was much more likely to be life-threatening or to necessitate an amputation.

2004-12-30 07:34:21 PM
Nope, got my discharge in 08/01. Thanks for your service, but please don't patronize me with it.

The article covers 20+ years of gradual progress, of which, you discard for 1 year of your personal experience and make a blanket statement.

04' was a damn good year for me. But I'm not gonna go shout to the sadsacks that they're full of it if they think things are bad. It's perspective, that's all.

2004-12-30 07:34:50 PM
I didn't rtfa but I will assume that Kerry losing the election was the feel good story of the year.

2004-12-30 07:36:10 PM

Kooazndood:

That's simply silly. Fox is the most slanted yellow journalism that's appeared in America since the 30's. Only recently they've been given a green legal light to knowingly lie in their 'news' reports.

They have no credibility whatsoever. They are a joke.

2004-12-30 07:43:08 PM
It's interesting to see the people that have bought into the "everything sucks" political propaganda of the Democrats struggle to deal with reality.

2004-12-30 07:43:22 PM
good news = liberal kryptonite

2004-12-30 07:43:23 PM
WOW Marshall Banana, good way to prove the point. I would have simply stated Fox "News" sucks donkey balls, but I think you did it better.

2004-12-30 07:43:50 PM
A news organization that says "we report, you decide" is telling people what is good and bad?

i do not understand

Faux news is horrible and I hear father O'Reilly like to fondle tit-tays.

2004-12-30 07:45:34 PM
When I can afford a lobotomy I'll have one so as to be able to believe conservatives about how the world operates.

2004-12-30 07:47:29 PM
What good news? None here. Not a danged thing.

2004-12-30 07:47:50 PM
crawlspace: good news = liberal kryptonite

reality = conservative kryptonite

2004-12-30 07:48:17 PM
And in even better news, the biggest lies are still the most believable, and Zappa was right, er Vonnegut, er Orwell.

Go read about how sorry Americans are that tsunamis kill. Not bombs, just tsunamis. Farking hypocrite mods.

2004-12-30 07:49:35 PM
Does anyone care that the links in the article don't go anywhere useful?

2004-12-30 07:50:01 PM
A hint: If your post contains "Fox News is..." or "conservatives are..." then you're committing the logical fallacy of changing the subject by attacking the messenger rather than dealing with the content.

2004-12-30 07:50:46 PM
crawlspace: It's not that good news is liberal kryptonite. It's that there really hasn't been any very good news this year.

Thousands of innocent people die in Iraq.
Hundreds of thousands of innocent people die from tsunamis.
George W. Bush gets a majority of electoral votes.

I mean seriously, this year has brought nothing more than death and fear. We'd be better off if we could have just skipped 2004.

2004-12-30 07:51:14 PM
Bwahahaha! Healthier? Cleaner?? Less poor?

Comedy farking gold.
